To think that people have forgotten about Wales?

Irrespective of your view, it feels like the welsh have been forgotten about. At least it feels like that to me.

I live 3 miles from the English border and all I see is talk of what we can do now (drive to exercise, meet in parks, schools may go back etc). Plans for the future are being tentatively made.

Whereas we're still under house arrest more or less. I feel suffocated and feel the welsh gift is being a nanny state. I know many will disagree but I never voted for this. I voted for the govt not the welsh first minister. Why does he get to make plans?

It feels all have forgotten us and were left behind. My DD has friends 15mins away who might get to go back to primary school soon. She is in wales and is devastated.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 11/05/2020 23:52

Isn't this what the Welsh voted for ? I am confused.

KillerofMen · 11/05/2020 23:56

It is, but presumably not the OP.

user1471565182 · 11/05/2020 23:59

Not really sure what that has to do with anybody but the welsh?

Do you feel the same about all the benefits that you get from being in Wales at normal times?? Free prescriptions for example?? No one can win in any situation realistically

CelestialSpanking · 12/05/2020 00:04

Live in Wales and I’m relieved things are pretty much remaining as they have been for now and we’re not part of the embarrassing, confusing shit show that Boris the bozo is leading. Hopefully when we start coming out of lockdown here it won’t be such a mess as it is in England!

AdoptedBumpkin · 12/05/2020 00:05

You might be pleased in a few weeks.

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 00:06

Our health board did not report 84 deaths for a month, that covers most of north wales and nobody noticed. That is how much of a mess our health service is in. They do not have a bloody clue, last week Drakeford was saying that care home deaths were irrelevant.

Daffodil101 · 12/05/2020 00:09

Welsh wanted more independence. This would always lead to different decisions being taken.

Sounds like most people in wales think it’s advantageous.

I would rather pay and not have to wait 9 months for a consultation then 14 more months for a much needed operation. I don’t know any person in Wales who wouldn’t rather buy a prepayment certificate & have better treatment options.
8 miles away patients are seen within 3 months & operated on within a further 4 months.

Wales (& Scotland) only have to worry about the NHS, they do not care about the economy which is the UK governments responsibility. So its easy to play politics as long someone else gets the blame. Idiots.

What a ridiculous comment. The Welsh and Scottish Governments do have responsibility for economic policy. The Welsh Government will soon have tax varying powers.

suk44 · 12/05/2020 00:34

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully

Because ending the lockdown is a devolved matter? Did you not realise this?

Therefore the First Minister of Wales makes the decision - whose goverment is in power following a democratically held election (and arguably more democratic than the westminster elections which relies solely on first past the post in wales, which welsh assembly elections do not).

ZombieFan · 12/05/2020 00:49

The Welsh Government will soon have tax varying powers
Translated into English: The Welsh government do not currently have tax varying powers.

But that's irrelevant because despite Wales/Scotland having the ability to vary tax rates by 1 or 2 percent, Boris will still get the blame if the UK economy does not recover. We need to start getting back to work NOW.

MadameMeursault · 12/05/2020 00:54

I’m in England and wish I was in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, where they have sensible rules and aren’t risking people’s lives to make their leader popular.

pumpkinbump · 12/05/2020 01:07

At the moment I'm glad I live in Wales and not England. Did you see the pictures of tube stations in London today? They were packed. It won't be long until cases start rising again!

hm246 · 12/05/2020 02:23

I’m in north wales less than 2 miles to England. My husband and myself (but I’m on mat leave) work in England. My closest hospital (by 6miles) is in England. My closest Tesco is in England. The fact we have different rule is nuts. All 4 nations should have worked together to over come this. I do think the way this crisis has been handled will be the beginning of the break up of the UK.

KillerofMen · 12/05/2020 08:30

Welsh government do currently have limited tax raising powers but have committed to no alterations to income tax during this term.

Fearofawelshplanet · 12/05/2020 08:39

I feel glad I live in Wales and I feel it was the right decision to stay in lockdown....partly because I also think it's true that the testing is shambolic and no one has a clue what the actual infection rate is and who has had it here in Wales. Says it all in the phrase kill people or kill the economy. Time will tell....... As a side note I would rather pay for my prescriptions to support the NHS.

SeperatedSwans · 12/05/2020 08:43

Zombie you are correct the devolved states are carrying on with a economic draining plan because they aren't footing the bill. I'd cut them off from the furlough scheme to be honest, and just give them a minor budget and tell them you work it out, out of this pot. Once the pot is empty, there will be no more funding.

If Wales is such a hardship move to England.
I'd much prefer to be safe at home going for a walk a few times a day, shopping when I need to, than being held in the Royal Gwent on a ventilator because we've come out too early.
When the numbers are in the 100s not thousands it might be safe

TabbyMumz · 12/05/2020 09:35

Ballsdeep.....that link just shows you cant travel to Wales for exercise or non essential journeys....I'm not sure why you have put it up. My comment was that you can drive to Wales for essential journeys, for work, and even for caring for vulnerable people. There are lots of reasons why you can travel to Wales, so Wales is not closed. I hate that phrase anyway. You cannot close Wales. Anyway lots of people will be doing trips the other way, from Wales to England.
