Boris and a costa?

I am so confused now. What message is he giving? We're in Lockdown and he's having a costa. I had a close look at the picture and it doesn't look like one of those fill them up at home cups. I'm moving planets.

OP posts:
BovaryX · 09/05/2020 19:56

he walked through a park with a flippant item

GrinGrin I missed that! It sounds like the opening lyric of the only hit of some guitar band whose name was instantly forgotten....

Peggysgettingcrazy · 09/05/2020 19:57

If he would have done it the first day of lockdown would you all have had the same impression?

I would have said exactly the same. Costa didn't need have to shut, really. They closed to sort out H&S but they were never told they couldn't do take away.

If they had been open, why would it have been a problem on the first day of lockdown.

LipsyGirl · 09/05/2020 19:57

Jesus! Shoot him down!

Vintagevixen · 09/05/2020 19:58

The bastard - he could've got me one! I only wish there was an open coffee shop round here, I would be first in the queue.

SharonasCorona · 09/05/2020 19:58

Why is always people with usernames like ‘Mama Bear’ who post these threads? There must be a correlation.

ihatelockdown · 09/05/2020 19:59

Do you know what I did today OP? I drove to Costa JUST to get a coffee! Because it's allowed!! Coffee shops are open and it was an essential trip to me!!

Bathroom12345 · 09/05/2020 20:00

OP. You sadly have far too much time on your hands!

Peggysgettingcrazy · 09/05/2020 20:00

I forgot costa was open actually. Going to get one tomorrow! 👌

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 09/05/2020 20:00

Gwendoline form Mallory Towers is alive and posting on MN. This is gold.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/05/2020 20:01

Get a grip. Most Tesco Express places have a Costa machine.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2020 20:01

Perhaps OP works for Costa. It's all a ruse because we are all talking about Costa and coffee. Shock

sonjadog · 09/05/2020 20:02

"A flippant item." That is excellent.

SonjaMorgan · 09/05/2020 20:03

@BovaryX can you explain why you think it would benefit Boris Johnson if there was a second wave which killed a significant number of people?

There will be a second wave whether it benefits him or not. He has been criticized for his handling of this crisis and quite rightly so. He doesn't want to make any decisions that results in lost lives and would far rather people didn't follow the official advise.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2020 20:04

I am going to be using the term 'flippant item' a lot. I love it. Grin

Offred2 · 09/05/2020 20:04

By the way - thanks OP. As my local costa in the town centre is closed I’d kind of assumed all the ones around here are closed. But your thread prompted me to check whether the drive through one a little further is open, be it is! I’ll think of you when I buy a ‘flippant’ coffee tomorrow 😉

Nannewnannew · 09/05/2020 20:05

ThisHereMamaBear I’m sorry OP but you are being absolutely ridiculous. You obviously have far too much time on your hands.

MouthBreathingRage · 09/05/2020 20:05

Is this some weird sarcasm? Or one of those reverse type threads trying to goad all the lockdown fascist? Because I can't bloody stand Johnston but even i think this is utterly ridiculous.

(Costa is gross though, so he is unreasonable for that. Surely with all his money he can afford better).

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/05/2020 20:06

I love a good flippant item.

cocktailsatdawn · 09/05/2020 20:06

Normally I would say YANBU, but he has a newborn baby, and coffee is definitely essential when you have a newborn.

BovaryX · 09/05/2020 20:07

He doesn't want to make any decisions that results in lost lives and would far rather people didn't follow the official advise

Presumably he is trying to balance the risks of ending lockdown with the risks of the economy imploding if the UK remains under house arrest. An unenviable decision. When do you think lockdown should end?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 09/05/2020 20:07

How exactly does Boris having a Costa coffee impact your life, OP?
Unless you are working for a rival coffee chai that is.

Willow2017 · 09/05/2020 20:08

OP has a point. Either it is essential shopping and trips or not

Getting a coffee while walking to work or for exercise is not a separate trip!

In 6 weeks I managed to only go shopping once because I decided not putting lives at risk was worth learning to live without bread and switching to herbal tea, black coffee or almond or oat milk. I made excellent use of my freezer and tins
Well bully for you. I dont gave a fecking tardis so my freezer wouldn't feed me and two 6 foot teens for 6 bloody weeks. What are the rest of us mere mortals to do?

If it isnt a takeaway cup did it cross your mind that he made it at home?

I wish people were so clued up on the actual guudelines as they were about everyone elses business before running off about some non event.

Nottherealslimshady · 09/05/2020 20:08

He's said from the very start that takeaways were allowed. Costa, McDonalds etc all chose to close off their own backs, not by instruction. Eat in is not allowed, take out is fine.

Iooselipssinkships · 09/05/2020 20:08

I haven't read through the thread properly but a Costa drive thru opened recently near us and the tail backs caused such a problem that Costa had to advise that they're only opening for NHS workers only and to be reminded of essential journeys only.
So yeah I can see why it's then confusing to see BJ with one. And if anyone thinks it was just a picture of a man with a coffee on his way to work, please, everything he does in the public eye is contrived at the moment.

StealthPolarBear · 09/05/2020 20:09

"He's probably been up half the night with a new born. I expect he needs that coffee.
Give the chap a break!"
Brilliant :o I very much doubt he's doing night feeds, and much as Id usually argue for a father's involvement, I will make an exception for the PM.
