Boris and a costa?

I am so confused now. What message is he giving? We're in Lockdown and he's having a costa. I had a close look at the picture and it doesn't look like one of those fill them up at home cups. I'm moving planets.

Hmm does he not own a kettle then?

cardibach · 09/05/2020 19:19

It’s been made very clear that if shops sell it you can buy it. Takeout food places have been open throughout. There is nothing wrong with this.

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 19:20

I was told I was murdering babies by going to the supermarket to buy two items.

I don’t think Boris has done anything wrong but it’s strange how one post on here says it’s fine and others are telling people they are murderers.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/05/2020 19:20

I do agree the optics don’t look good. He should not be doing this until there is a serious relaxation of restriction because he is supposed to e setting an example. Not that he does though...

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 09/05/2020 19:20

Bread & gruel all round then.

birdling · 09/05/2020 19:20

Good grief, the poor man.
He's probably been up half the night with a new born. I expect he needs that coffee.
Give the chap a break!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/05/2020 19:20

It’s fine.

PurpleDaisies · 09/05/2020 19:21

I judge the pm of this country for having a Costa when a few weeks back he was ill in hospital.

WTF is the problem with that?! If I’d been in hospital, I’d be craving a proper coffee too. My nhs doctor friends are all only surviving because of caffeine at the moment.

Nightmanagerfan · 09/05/2020 19:21

This is a non issue. Government departments including the home office, foreign office, Whitehall etc have Costa inside the buildings - it’s part of the canteen so Will still be open.

Legoandloldolls · 09/05/2020 19:21

Maybe he picked them up with a pack of fags? I cant really find the energy to care. My Tesco Express has a Costa machine. They are also selling fags.

I buy tonic water for my gin during my weekly shopping. It's not essential. But I'm not breaking lockdown, the rules or the guidelines.

Shoot me now, I was even going pick my dd some new socks up when she could just made do with selotape and a j cloth.

HappyHammy · 09/05/2020 19:21

Its a non issue and just another excuse to bash Boris. Would it have been better if it was a Waitrose cup.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 09/05/2020 19:22

What were your thoughts on Diane Abbot's illegal can of G& T on the train, OP?

ThisHereMamaBear · 09/05/2020 19:22

Well I disagree, it hasn't been made clear at all. Why are we bothering with lockdown if it's fine to go to the shop and get a Costa?

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2020 19:22

So he can't have a takeaway coffee because he has been in hospital? There's a huge Costa in the entrance of our local hospital. I am not understanding the angst here.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 09/05/2020 19:23

No me neither. This is pearl clutching competitive silliness.

BirdieFriendReturns · 09/05/2020 19:23

But if I posted I got a takeaway coffee I would be lambasted.

Interesting.

Bumsnet1 · 09/05/2020 19:23

OP, I hope that at your home you do not have tea, coffee, sugar, wine, biscuits or any type of processed carbohydrate? Not essential.

ThisHereMamaBear · 09/05/2020 19:24

@Legoandloldolls I think it's different going shopping AND getting non essential items compared with just getting a Costa. Maybe he did a weekly shop at the same time though.

MillennialPink · 09/05/2020 19:24

Sorry, are people on here seriously suggesting that Boris Johnson does his own shopping in a supermarket?? I can just see him queuing outside Morrisons ...

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/05/2020 19:24

Ha ha ha OP ha ha ha ......You are joking right ?

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 09/05/2020 19:24

Our local Morrison's garage has a Costa machine. Could a driver, bodyguard or assistant have fetched it?

Cosmosgrowinmygarden · 09/05/2020 19:25

According to the newspaper article I saw it was one of those reusable cups, so he may have made himself a coffee and then gone for a walk.

HappyHammy · 09/05/2020 19:25

What shop did he go to? A Costa cafe, a booth in the park, a hospital outlet. Costa are everywhere. Do you feel so strongly about people buying bottles of water.

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 19:25

Why should he be in lockdown? He's already had the virus.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2020 19:26

YY it's highly likely somebody else picked it up for him. Is that allowed?
