Boris and a costa?

I am so confused now. What message is he giving? We're in Lockdown and he's having a costa. I had a close look at the picture and it doesn't look like one of those fill them up at home cups. I'm moving planets.

He might have immunity now, since recovering from the virus, so perhaps is feeling a bit more relaxed about taking the small risk entailed from buying a take away coffee. I'm pretty cautious and germ phobic at the best of times, so wouldn't want to buy a Costa coffee right now, but don't see the harm in people enjoying a coffee as they walk through a park on their way to work, or for gentle exercise in the sun. Little treats make lockdown a bit more bearable.

Alsohuman · 09/05/2020 22:20

Given the chance I’m always happy to put the boot in on Boris but this is too much even for me. MN’s reached peak madness.

Sophiafour · 09/05/2020 22:25

I dislike Boris intensely as a bit of an absentee PM (that's not to say I didn't have sympathy for him as a person when he was ill, obviously).

It strikes me life is joyless enough at the minute without begrudging someone (even if it is the PM, caught unawares by a photographer presumably hiding in the bushes with a zoom lens) a takeaway coffee combined with a bit of daily exercise.

It does seem, though, that different police forces, and self-appointed members of the, er, newly formed and informal Public PCSO branch, are interpreting the rules very differently.

Really looking forward to living in the new Western Bloc when this has eased off a bit....

Willow2017 · 09/05/2020 22:28

because all Costa's are closed, it is not an essential purchase, a journey to get one would be non-essential
I know several places within a few miles i can get takeout coffee while shopping, walking or getting petrol. I dont need to go into an actual cafe. Its not verboten.

I am not allowed to leave my house.
What has that got to do with anyone else? Other people are allowed to go out!

SoupDragon · 09/05/2020 22:33

Completely fucking bonkers.

🤦🏻‍♀️

SoupDragon · 09/05/2020 22:34

because all Costa's are closed

Clearly not.

Carrie7469 · 09/05/2020 22:35

Can you please stop calling it "A Costa". Costa is the name of a shop not the name of a product. This bothers me than some poor sod who had a newborn baby and who is recovering from a serious illness drinking coffee.

shinynewapple2020 · 09/05/2020 22:35

Some people are seriously batshit

  • and I'm not meaning Boris and his take out coffee here .

'but he was in hospital recently' - so perhaps he needed some bloody caffeine to perk himself up.

ThisHereMamaBear · 09/05/2020 22:35

@Sophiafour I find it amusing that you're mocking me but you can't see that Boris would have been well aware he would have been pictured.

Is this thread still going? Grin With OP still saying it's wrong? That's commitment I guess.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/05/2020 22:37

Op can we have your shopping list for the last 6 months?

SoupDragon · 09/05/2020 22:40

Boris would have been well aware he would have been pictured.

Pictured doing something perfectly acceptable.

Cheekychops73 · 09/05/2020 22:40

Brilliant thread OP thanks has right cheered me up. I really needed the laugh Grin,
Off to google where my nearest open Costa is am going to get me a mocha tomorrow.

lonelySam · 09/05/2020 22:41

But he's already been ill so he is supposedly immune? He won't be spreading the virus and he is not at the risk of catching it.

ThisHereMamaBear · 09/05/2020 22:42

@SleepingStandingUp but doing a full shop and getting a coffee is different. I wouldn't go to my local shop just for an ice cream.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2020 22:42

He might walk through the park with another flippant item tomorrow. Shock It might have been the first of a series.

Redolent · 09/05/2020 22:42

OP is being a cf.

Clemmieandareallybigbunfight · 09/05/2020 22:44

I get a costa quite often. They sell them at work. It's a hospital.

Is that ok with you op or shall I put myself in the corner?

Alsohuman · 09/05/2020 22:45

I wouldn't go to my local shop just for an ice cream

Because you choose not to. It would be perfectly legal. If you want to make up your own rules, go ahead but you can’t expect other people to adhere to them.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 09/05/2020 22:46

Next flippant thing? Unicycle? BLT? Magnum?

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 09/05/2020 22:47

OP hasn't moved planet yet.

ThisHereMamaBear · 09/05/2020 22:49

Oh Mumsnet, you never fail! Almost 300 comments and in that time, I have been called stupid, cf, idiot, twat (numerous times) bat shit, deranged and more! Night night all.

OP posts:
BrightYellowDaffodil · 09/05/2020 22:49

I wouldn't go to my local shop just for an ice cream.

Jolly good for you. I would totally go to a shop for ice-cream if I wanted to. That's the thing about people, see, they're all different.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/05/2020 22:54

@ThisHereMamaBear well we have no idea what else he brought when he brought the coffee to go in his reusable coffee cup

Willow2017 · 09/05/2020 22:54

Boris would have been well aware he would have been pictured.
Doing something perfectly acceptable, what an awful thing to do!
