Boris and a costa?

I am so confused now. What message is he giving? We're in Lockdown and he's having a costa. I had a close look at the picture and it doesn't look like one of those fill them up at home cups. I'm moving planets.

OP posts:
Casino218 · 10/05/2020 03:30

I'm getting so sick of these Covid police now. You've bought X how dare you? It's not essential!

How dare anyone tell me what is and frickin isn't essential ! Get a life!

AdoreTheBeach · 10/05/2020 05:18

Coffee is ESSENTIAL. A take away coffee from one of those machines is not breaking lock down nor would be grabbing a Diet Coke from the cooler, bunch of flowers by the till or chocolate bar also by the till.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 10/05/2020 06:14

If you can't pinpoint why its distasteful, then its just you been judgemental with mo reason other than, its Boris.

And he didn't just go out for a coffee. He went for a walk. Good for him.

LJC1234 · 10/05/2020 07:13

Honestly I'm not even a huge Boris fan but can he do anything right in anyone's eyes?

Most government buildings have costa and just like in hospitals they have stayed open to help the people working all hours to keep this country going.

I literally despair of how judgmental we are as a human race sometimes.

CJsGoldfish · 10/05/2020 07:24

I'm not trying to bash Boris at all

Yeah, you were.
Unfortunately, for you, it didn't go the way you wanted it to but it was a pretty shit try. A bit more thought and you could probably have found something worth being bothered by.
I admire your commitment though Grin

SoupDragon · 10/05/2020 08:00

Wake up people, Costa is really not the issue here.

What is then? What with the title and the OP being all about Boris having a Costa I'm struggling to see what else it could be.

And for those MN naysayers we are high earning professionals.

Gosh! Thank goodness you pointed that out. 🙄

Peggysgettingcrazy · 10/05/2020 08:19

He's a twat, and no clue about every day life for British people. Anyone that thinks differently is clearly deluded / brainwashed by the right wing press - Wake up people, Costa is really not the issue here. And for those MN naysayers we are high earning professionals.

Lots of people in 'everyday life' go for a walk and get a Costa.

Of course he doesn't know what certain situations are like. Thats like saying someone who has never been a single parents doesn't know what its like.

What the fuck has what you earn gkt to do with anything. My job is to explain quite basic things to my collegaues. All high earning professionals. Unfortunately that doesn't mean any of us are exceptional people.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 08:26

I’m left wing and often walk in the park with a coffee.

The Left are getting worse. Completely off their heads

Dodgytrousers · 10/05/2020 08:39

I understand this is a largely left leaning site, but the nasty comments on here from left wing posters is astounding and absolutely hypocritical.

They claim to be caring and kind but that's total bollocks as I have never read so many nasty things as I have on this site written by Labour supporters.

Astonishing.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/05/2020 08:57

I wouldn't go to my local shop just for an ice cream.

I have. I went to the corner shop for a ruby Magnum and it was bloody lovely

Alsohuman · 10/05/2020 08:58

There are plenty of left wing posters here including me who think OP’s off her rocker. It’s not about how you vote. It’s about making up lockdown rules as you go along.

As a staunch labour supporter, I was one of the first posters on this thread telling the OP that Boris was perfectly entitled to walk in the park and drink a coffee.

SimonJT · 10/05/2020 09:07

My coffee cup is a starbucks one and says Malaysia, OP would have a shit fit if she saw me using it on my daily outing. Not only do I have a non-essential drink in my hand, but I flew all the way to Malaysia to buy it!

Ethelfleda · 10/05/2020 09:08

Well I damn well hope you were carrying an avocado as well Wink

Seriously. I’m left wing. I voted for Corbyn. Twice!
I see no problem with Boris walking through a park with a Costa.
Maybe I’m a disgrace to my political tribe Grin

Topseyt · 10/05/2020 09:10

I would absolutely go to my local shop just for an ice-cream, especially if the weather stays warm (not forecast to, unfortunately).

I'm debating sending DH later, as the magnums I bought in Tesco yesterday will soon be gone. While he is there he can get some cream to go with the essential millionaire's cheesecake I also bought yesterday because I thought we had some and we didn't.

These are essential items. They are?

Topseyt · 10/05/2020 09:10

Well, they are to us.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 10/05/2020 09:13

Its not about left or right leaning.

Its about a small but vocal part of society (not just mn) who have always privately rated about people going about their business. They always judged what others did, spent far too much time concerning themselves with other people do and thought everyone should only do the things that they thought they should.

The pandemic get them the opportunity to actually say these things out loud. It gave them chance to spout crap under the guise of "I care more....don't you care about people dying" and made them feel virteous about it.

Thats why they made up additions to the rules. Can't buy hotcakes buns at the suowrmarket, can't buy hair dye, can't sit on a bench in a park, can't play football with members of your own household etc

People starting to find a new normal is quite upsetting for them. Because they realise they will have to get back in their boxes, and keep it to themselves and stew over it.

There's both left and right leaning people who are like this. Its not political, its personalities.

FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich · 10/05/2020 09:13

There is a Co op about 200 yards from Downing Street, on Trafalgar Square that has a Costa machine.

DurhamDurham · 10/05/2020 09:16

It's almost like some people think they can make themselves immune to the virus by living as miserably as possible and denying themselves any treats or nice things at all. You're no more likely to get the virus walking through the park with a coffee.
Yesterday we went for a long walk and called in to a cafe offering takeaways, we ordered a couple of coffees. When we were walking we were asked a few times where we got them from, people really are missing out on simple pleasures like having a coffee outside the house.
I hate Boris but I don't mind him enjoying a coffee on the way to work.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 10/05/2020 09:18

@Peggysgettingcrazy Absolutely spot on there!

monkeycats · 10/05/2020 09:18

Oh fgs. Joe and the Juice has been open for weeks. You download the app and pre-order, then they have all the orders ready in the doorway. Quite a few pizza / ice cream places serving pizza etc into the street, we found a lovely one the other day in the backstreets of South Ken. Shock horror OP..., Pret A Manger has reopened, but with a more limited stick and also selling “essentials” like massive bottles of Gales honey and lettuce Confused. Gails cafe is open near me too, selling sandwiches, fresh breads, cakes and massive bags of flour. Deliveroo still part-functioning. Lots of coffee shop doing coffees through the window. We get something every day on our social- distancing 5 mile circuit. Chill OP.

Aragog · 10/05/2020 09:27

I was under the impression that we were just doing 'essential shopping?'

But that's never been the time in England.
If a shop sells it we can buy it. That means we can buy non essentials and always have been able to.
Many places have become take alway only - again this has always been allowed.

Mumsnetters have always had their own version of the rules but under those written down, and in the press briefings, take always and non essential buying has never been banned.

EmbarrassedUser · 10/05/2020 10:00

It was a reusable cup so he didn’t necessarily buy it at Costa although as PM maybe it was insensitive.

Paulolina · 10/05/2020 10:04

''He's a twat, and no clue about every day life for British people. Anyone that thinks differently is clearly deluded / brainwashed by the right wing press - Wake up people, Costa is really not the issue here. And for those MN naysayers we are high earning professionals''

And the left wonder why they struggle to win the centre voters over whilst writing cringe worthy shite like this. Get a grip
