To Ask How You Think Lockdown Will Change Tomorrow?

Popc0rn · 09/05/2020 13:36

Some people seem to think "lockdown" will be significantly relaxed tomorrow. Personally I think the message will be that you can exercise outside more than once a day, and go to work as long as you can socially distance in your job. I don't think seeing friends or family will be permitted yet.

I'm hoping it won't be relaxed more than that as worried that we're not over the first peak yet, and that a second peak could be worse than the first. I'm a nurse so can't stay home if the shit hits the fan.

Just wondering what other people think will happen, and/or would like to happen?

YABU - Lockdown needs to be significantly relaxed tomorrow.

YANBU - It's too early to make any major changes to lockdown yet.

I don’t think much will change tbh Sad

I don’t know what the answer is but there is going to be no quick fix.

RunningNinja79 · 09/05/2020 13:44

I don't think there will be much change, but then I don't understand why they couldn't do that on Thursday. If there was to be some change then I could understand why they would wait until after this bank holiday, but what about the next one in a couple of weeks. Surely they need to wait until after that too?

I really don't know what will say. On a very selfish level I'd like to see some changes, but on a what is best for the UK level I think another 3 weeks is needed. If there are very few changes then as long as there is a detailed plan (which I think there is going to be) with an idea of what is going to happen and when as long as the figures are where we (as a country) need them to be. Think that's the hardest. The not knowing of the end date/time.

BarbedBloom · 09/05/2020 13:44

I don't think as much will change as people are expecting. Wales has just extended by 3 weeks and I doubt they will be going a different path to the rest of the UK

MadameBee · 09/05/2020 13:47

We have been told by our employer that whatever is said DO NOT head back into the office and I work for the LA.

It’s more than tedious now isn’t it? But we have to ride it out Sad

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2020 13:48

No idea. Not getting too excited either.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 09/05/2020 13:49

But Boris is making a special speech not just any old speech. He must have something important to say otherwise it will just look like an ego trip!

Lovebeingmama · 09/05/2020 13:54

I’m hoping that it’s slightly relaxed. I think people are not applying the lock down rules as much as they did anyway.
I’d be really concerned if it was more significant than this. Death /infection rates haven’t dropped to the level that can tolerate this.
If the government says employees can go back to work with masks, I’d be worried about PPE. Surgical masks are in short supply within the NHS.

stuckindoors77 · 09/05/2020 13:55

It won't change basically. Lockdown will be extended to June but with a few tweaks to keep people happy EG garden centres and picnics allowed,

HavartitoMeetYou · 09/05/2020 13:56

I predict they’ll announce some very minor liftings as a sop, but won’t make any real changes.

MadameBee · 09/05/2020 13:57

I can’t see how they would provide face masks and what about eating and drinking?

We have to visit clients houses (on the doorstep) and we have been told we can only have them as “a last resort” - I am not sure what that resort is..,,,

bridgetreilly · 09/05/2020 13:58

More shops will be allowed to open, such as garden centres. Businesses will be encouraged to start making return plans for furloughed employees. I think they might announce initial plans for staged school return after half term.

BarefootHippieChick · 09/05/2020 14:00

I don't think much is going to change, there's no way we're going 'back to normal' overnight and by Monday we can all be in the pub. I think exercise restrictions will be relaxed and as pp said, businesses can reopen and people can go back to work as long as they can assure social distancing will be in place. I think Boris may also give us an idea for what will happen 3 weeks after that.

fasttracksign · 09/05/2020 14:01

I don't think there will be any big announcement that will bring changes on Monday but I think the Special Announcement will be him showing the Big plan going forward. I think they will have done some phase plan like Ireland and they will show all of it in some snazzy illustration and he'll be trying to inspire everyone to keep going.

Angelnix · 09/05/2020 14:01

Having been to do a weekly grocery shop on my own yesterday for ours and my parents shielding household, it seems that a lot of people are acting like the lockdown has been lifted. Whole families shopping, no real attention paid to social distancing. And then when I get home having dropped the shopping off at my parents, I find out that all of their neighbours have been in one garden/house having a VE day tea party! The ignorance of some people is shocking, but they can keep clapping me as I work for the NHS, I was livid.

Honestly, I don't think that much will change apart from garden centres reopening and an indication that schools are looking to open to certain key year groups. I hope that they reinforce the initial rules tbh and reiterate the non-essential travel etc.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 09/05/2020 14:02

I think it will be minimal changes, death rate is still high. As a frontline NHS nurse my ward has been quiet for a few weeks but, this week we are run off our feet with really sick patients non covid related. These are people who waited too long to come in as were scared so, young people with appendicitis which are now septic with huge open wounds etc. For all the patient's my ward is taking from ITU the same amount are being admitted.

People are really unwell, this is a side to the covid pandemic that was not identified. Please if you are unwell come to A&E. It is heartbreaking to see these otherwise fit and well young patients so unwell. Of course they can't see their relatives either.

We need another 3 weeks lockdown.

yellowbrickwhorl · 09/05/2020 14:05

I'm pretty sure they will add garden centres to the list of shops allowed to open. Mainly because so many of their plants will be worthless and have to be thrown away if they can't sell them soon.

MadameBee · 09/05/2020 14:09

I was talking to a head teacher I work alongside last week and we were both in agreement that we don’t think a schools will be back properly until September.

RunningNinja79 · 09/05/2020 14:10

I don't think much is going to change, there's no way we're going 'back to normal' overnight and by Monday we can all be in the pub

There is a BIG difference between the two. Things could significantly change over the next few months and we still wont be back to normal.

Disabrie22 · 09/05/2020 14:11

I think it will be 3 weeks more lockdown to give them time to strategise - possible exercise more than once a day.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 09/05/2020 14:15

Given how many in real life seem to think it’s over and the MN posts where people are seeing family etc I don’t think the announcement will be enough. If anything we need to go with the permit system until people comply.

BarefootHippieChick · 09/05/2020 14:18

Runningninja I completely agree, I don't think we will ever be back to the normal we once had, but lots of Sun readers seem to think differently!

ShowOfHands · 09/05/2020 14:20

There are a few long threads asking this exact question in the coronavirus topic op.

Splodgetastic · 09/05/2020 14:21

I think it will be everyone back on Monday.

BarefootHippieChick · 09/05/2020 14:22

I think it will be everyone back on Monday

Back where? Work or school? Or both?

MadameMinimes · 09/05/2020 14:23

I don’t think anything is going to change much on Monday. Like others, I think it’s most likely that there will be some very minor tweaks. I think that he will also announce a plan or roadmap and for what might happen in the weeks and months ahead.
