to not see any redeeming characteristics in Donald Trump?

I have just finished a book "Very Stable Genius" by two reporters from the Washington Post, who have been covering Donald Trump's presidency. The picture that emerges from that book (and other things I have read) is of man of no redeeming characteristics. He is bad tempered, narcissistic, revels in his ignorance, is petty, and a bully to boot.

People who work with him (even those who share a conservative world view) seem to not be able to stand him because of his character as a human being.

AIBU to not see any redeeming characteristics in him? Are there any?

Fwiw I agree about some of what you say about assumptions on this thread. Some of them are Not OK.

I still can't see why on earth you think Trump is so good though. Would you like to give us the basis for your opinions pinkyyy? I do think there's some very good analytical assessments of why he isn't good!

Pinkyyy · 09/05/2020 10:21

Thank you @SeaEagleFeather I honestly thought I was going mad because it's like nobody can see that anyone has said anything wrong to me.

I'm surprised at how many people think he has handled this virus poorly, that was one of the things I thought people might have had as a positive about him. He has made sure to build thousands of ventilators, which are a key piece of equipment. He has called out journalists who have reported 'fake news' and I think that is so important to do right now. There's so much false information being pumped out that people just don't know what to believe anymore, I know that's how I feel in the UK with our press. I also like the fact that he is looking into how this virus was started and why it wasn't contained and that he intends to hold China accountable if they could have prevented this becoming a pandemic.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/05/2020 10:51

@Pinnky so you heard on Fox News: "Donald Trump has built thousands of ventilators!"

This says something similar... but it delves a bit deeper than Fox will have.

Deadringer · 09/05/2020 11:01

That article is very interesting Jesus, the richest country in the world can't take care of their peoples medical needs, its a disgrace. When all this is over i hope Trump is held personally accountable.

myrtleWilson · 09/05/2020 11:10

but he didn't call out 'fake news" @Pinkyyy - thats just his mantra for everything that doesn't fit his world view.

Kelly-Anne Conway coined the phrase "alternative facts' when called out for (I think) the blatant lie about the size of his inauguration.

In pressers he regularly attacks female journalists and woc. He went on a personal attack to that female journalist who tried to hold his feet to the fire on what he actually did in February to prepare for the coming pandemic.

Just because he calls something fake news doesn't mean it is. He tried to row back on the bleach debacle by saying it was fake news and he was being sarcastic to journalists by saying it - the video shows he is clearly directing his comments to Dr Birx...

Lonelycrab · 09/05/2020 11:11

He has called out journalists who have reported 'fake news' and I think that is so important to do right now

Oh purlees shoosh yourself.

He’s an utter failure of a human being. Rich, yes. Powerful of course. But an absolute dismal example of our species. We’re here, I believe, to do good on this planet in our lifetimes, and he is the perfect example of not doing that and screwing anyone he can for his own personal gain. Fucking dangerous twat is what he is.

BruceAndNosh · 09/05/2020 11:14

I'm sorry @Pinkyyy, but the moment someone parrots the phrase "fake news" I just think they haven't bothered to look at more than one narrow point of view.
I recommend the Reality Check section of BBC news page which is very good at clarifying "fake news"

lljkk · 09/05/2020 11:53

DT does one or 2 things that shows he's not a complete turnip brain.

People he has fired or fallen out with... he calls them up for advice. Frequently, middle of the night, etc. Seriously -- he knows that he's surrounded by Yes People pandering to his ego, and only the 'trouble-makers' are likely to tell him truths.

He's a famous germaphobe -- he'll continue to successfully dodge covid19. Mark my words.

sashh · 09/05/2020 12:24

Who says they're uninformed? I've just started my opinions, I haven't given any of the facts behind them.

And that's why no one can understand why you have that opinion. There are few things most people agree with buut Trump is one where most people share the same / similar opinions. You need to give resons for people to consider why you have those opinions.

I'm not struggling to understand what people are saying. I'm just shocked and appalled at the things people think it's okay to assume about someone purely based on their education and ethnic group.

I don't think anyone thinks your ethnicity is relevant, other than a cultural norm to leave formal education early. This is common amongst many groups of people, (Amish, Haradi Jews, Jehova's witnesses tend to finish school but few go to college and even fewer to university).

Some of the things you have said lead me to think that you are undereducated, which is not the same as uneducated.

Can I ask why you are not giving any reasons for your views?

user1471565182 · 09/05/2020 13:29

labour voters did not 'lend their votes to boris', belle. Lots just didnt vote. You're clearly desperate to be right wing but cant face up to that fact.

SeaEagleFeather · 09/05/2020 13:42

He has made sure to build thousands of ventilators, which are a key piece of equipment

But he did this so very late. Weeks after he should have done it. There was no foresight, no timely preparation. It's like knowing a tidal wave, but not warning the people on the beach to get off it. Many people have died because of it.

A good governor would have taken action much earlier.

. He has called out journalists who have reported 'fake news' and I think that is so important to do right now. There's so much false information being pumped out that people just don't know what to believe anymore, I know that's how I feel in the UK with our press^

If you look at what he -says-, he shouts fake news but he produces a huge amount of it himself. it's called deflection.

I also like the fact that he is looking into how this virus was started and why it wasn't contained and that he intends to hold China accountable if they could have prevented this becoming a pandemic.

There's some point here, Im sure that it was way worse in China than the authorities admit specially in Wuhan. But again, it looks like deflection from his own leadership in the crisis.

Don't forget that this is the man who is trying to dismantle obamacare. The last thing people need is no access to healthcare in the time of Corona.

user1471565182 · 09/05/2020 13:45

@Jane67996 trump has increased bombings by 70% and troops number in the middle east 30% over obama. I suppose that will be influencing you?

user1471565182 · 09/05/2020 13:50

Alright ill give him some credit- hes been open minded over North Korea.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/05/2020 20:27

I've had my post deleted (third one into the thread)! First time ever! Oooooh, I feel ever so naughty.

But on a serious note, sorry MNHQ. The fact that he will eventually die is definitely NOT one of Donald Trump's redeeming features. He will live forever, like genital herpes. Or nits.

user1471565182 · 09/05/2020 20:57

ooo I hope hes reading this. Can you imagine how much he googles himself

If he had read this thread, he would be posting furiously on it - he wouldn't be able to stop himself.

JudyCoolibar · 10/05/2020 09:55

Pinkyyy, you seem to be avoiding the topic of what he said about the use of bleach, disinfectant and heat - and his ridiculous claim that he was being sarcastic. Why would that be?

myrtleWilson · 10/05/2020 10:29

@JesusInTheCabbageVan I read on Twitter about a group/organisation - The Lincoln Project, a small super pac headed by George Conway (very anti Trump) designing an ad that would be only be played on Fox channel at a time The Donald would be watching.

It was criticising his response to the pandemic and was called Mourning in America, it cost them $5k.

It worked a charm, he was enraged, tweeted, the group raised $1.4m in donations.

Love the fact his rage fundraised for an anti trump campaign 😂

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/05/2020 10:40

@myrtleWilson Grin love that.
