to not see any redeeming characteristics in Donald Trump?

I have just finished a book "Very Stable Genius" by two reporters from the Washington Post, who have been covering Donald Trump's presidency. The picture that emerges from that book (and other things I have read) is of man of no redeeming characteristics. He is bad tempered, narcissistic, revels in his ignorance, is petty, and a bully to boot.

People who work with him (even those who share a conservative world view) seem to not be able to stand him because of his character as a human being.

AIBU to not see any redeeming characteristics in him? Are there any?

I have honestly tried to find something good about him but I can't. You can't even say he loves his daughter, he makes even that pervy and wrong. He abused his wives, cheated on all of them, is lazy, selfish and mean. He's a bully who loves attacking someone smaller or weaker than he is. He's a misogynist, a liar and a con man.

He also does not like dogs. Final straw for me I'm afraid.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 08/05/2020 15:26

Hillary Clinton suggested he was devoted to his kids.

(Apart from the other daughter who clean slips his mind.)

Hwyrynos · 08/05/2020 15:57

@Pinkyyy I’m sorry you felt ridiculed, I was not laughing at you personally but I suppose I was ridiculing your arguments, and I have to stand by that. Trump is driven and confident in his quest for personal glory and speaks his mind to the detriment of pretty much anyone whose interests do not align directly with his own.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/05/2020 17:13

Funnily enough they don't teach politics in school last time I checked
Um, yes they do. They really do. You can take GCSE, AS and A Level politics.

Lordfrontpaw · 08/05/2020 17:15

He has a nice red tie.

Lordfrontpaw · 08/05/2020 17:17

I’m just flicking through - but he did say that that he liked the uneducated didn’t he, at a rally?

myrtleWilson · 08/05/2020 17:24

In what actual dimension has his handling of the pandemic been outstanding?

Muminabun · 08/05/2020 17:26

His approval ratings are higher than Obama’s at the moment. The Obama administration was not without scandal.

midwestsummer · 08/05/2020 17:31

He does acknowledge the concerns of non urban white poor voters who have been pretty neglected by both sides of late.
I personally don't think his solutions are that great for them but he observed they exist.

He really doesn't like ethnic minorities of any sort Pinnky.

startrek90 · 08/05/2020 17:38

No administration is ever without a scandal, its just a question of degrees really isn't it? I would say the scandals of the trump administration have eclipsed the scandals of the Obama administration and even the Bush administration (and that takes some doing).

When you compare the men personally there is no contest. Obama is a far better, kinder, smarter, respectful, dignified and pleasant compared to Donald Trump. I know I would far rather invite presidents Obama, Bush and even Clinton to my home than Donald Trump.

For people who say they like him be honest, if your child or husband started to talk to and about people the way trump does would you be happy?

MouthBreathingRage · 08/05/2020 17:39

Well evidently you haven't checked for a while.

As for his handling of the pandemic, which part in particular do you think he's done well? I particularly enjoyed the bit where he decided to 'sarcastically' suggest injecting bleach to the point the companies themselves had to beg people to not ingest their products. Sign of great leadership right there, where your voters are so smart they need to be told to not drink Duck Toilet....

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/05/2020 17:58

@Pinnky what aspects of his handling of the pandemic do you think have been outstanding?

Sockmonster23 · 08/05/2020 18:12

I find Jimmy Saville repulsive, Lord mount batten (creepy) prince Charles and Andy
Have wondeful mates and that Epstein. I also find Bush and Blair and their terrifying lies and war on terrror repulsive. Oh and the Clinton's corruption and Obama is also a traitor. Trump well the media love him, have a field day with him meanwhile they pull out the monster Blair for advice whenever something happens. What a world we live in. 🙄

this montage gives an overview of Trump's handling of the pandemic
Porcupineinwaiting · 08/05/2020 18:43

One day he'll feed a lot of worms. That's about it.

Warsawa31 · 08/05/2020 18:57

Yep he is a crackpot. So is joe Biden though - and a sex pest to boot.
so the next election is a choice between two elderly most likely senile old men.

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/05/2020 19:02

He will eventually die and probably sooner rather than later if he is as ill as I think he really is.

He does not say what he thinks, because he isn't capable of forming coherent thought, nor pinning it down and expressing it.

He communicates in a series of half thoughts and repetition of phrases that stick in his brain, which leads people to fill in the gaps to their tastes, which is why so many THINK he thinks what they think, and says it like it is.

In reality, he says nothing at all most of the time, and takes a lot of repetitive words to do that.

Aridane · 08/05/2020 19:10

He acknowledged manual labour

Gingerkittykat · 08/05/2020 19:10

They do teach politics in school, even in the UK my DD is taking classes on American politics.

Of course studying politics doesn't make you a good politician though.

this^
he just makes noises, babbles and gesticulates, a confabulating old man

Happygirl79 · 08/05/2020 19:27

The man appears to be a total idiot. He has no redeeming qualities in my opinion
Most of all its worrying that he seems to be mentally ill or at the very least suffering from old age dementia

isadoradancing123 · 08/05/2020 19:43

Who says he abused his wives, he actually only has one ex wife plus the one he is now married to, who says he doesnt love his kids

Ohtherewearethen · 08/05/2020 19:51

Trump is like a chimpanzee with two dicks but with less grace. Planet Trump has only room for one man (and a couple of women for him to pester).

Ohtherewearethen · 08/05/2020 19:52

who says he doesnt love his kids

A true narcissist such as Trump can't love anyone as much as they love themselves. He fancies one of them though, if that counts?

bettybattenburg · 08/05/2020 19:53

It could be worse, he could be in his 20s.
