To be English and think Nicols Sturgeon would be a better PM

Just that really, I live in England but would quite happily vote for NS to be PM if given the choice over BJ. To me she seems much more trustworthy and has shown better leadership.

Go ahead and move to Scotland then. Something tells me you might regret it

Some of us quite like it here.

PhoneLock · 07/05/2020 20:12

I can't stand the woman, but I think she is doing the right thing as far as lockdown in Scotland is concerned.

PrimalLass · 07/05/2020 20:16

Absolutely not. She is the leader of a one policy party who is not equipped to be PM.

Wish she was. They've forgotten Indy as they are too busy appeasing the woke and nasty blue-haired SNP youth.

MissEliza · 07/05/2020 20:18

Op that's because you don't hear any news about what's actually happening in Scotland.

princesstwinkle · 07/05/2020 20:18

Yes I think she would but I think anyone would compared to Boris...

RibenaMonsoon · 07/05/2020 20:20

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.
I just don't share it with you.
The woman's an idealist, who wouldn't have a scooby doo what to do if she were PM.

wonderstuff · 07/05/2020 20:24

YANBU, but its academic given the fact she's a Scottish nationalist. Jacinda Arden and Angela Merkel look like better bets too. Barrack Obama was great..

AgentCooper · 07/05/2020 20:27

I have always been wary of the SNP and I fucking hate Alex Salmond (now there’s a single policy blustering opportunist for you) but I like Nicola Sturgeon. I’m Scottish btw.

I think she’s handled this crisis with good sense and compassion and she puts in the effort to communicate as transparently as possible. I do feel that she took on the FM role wanting to work for the country she had, not just the one she wanted, unlike Salmond. I didn’t reckon I’d ever be saying that about an SNP politician.

Re: baby boxes. Not means tested but they’re not mandatory. Free prescriptions and tuition fees - that’s how we choose to spend our money.

TheSandman · 07/05/2020 20:27

I've certainly never regretted moving north.

OMG! An idealist in politics! Oh!... I forgot. They're all supposed to be money grubbing populist chancers these days. How very old fashioned of her.

Pssst.. don't tell anyone... but I don't think she actually WANTS to be PM. That's the whole point.

Tootletum · 07/05/2020 20:29

Well, I agree with you, but pretty much anyone would be better. Apart from Priti who is utterly thick.

Barryisland · 07/05/2020 20:41

Yes please! Lets start a campaign!
Nicola for PM!

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 07/05/2020 21:03

I wish we could lock up Sturgeon and Johnson in a cell in the Tower of London together and throw away the key.

Rosebel · 07/05/2020 21:27

No she's awful. I can't stand her. I'd rather have Boris over her any day.

MotherHeyho · 07/05/2020 21:43

I agree OP. She makes me proud to be Scottish. For all the Nicola haters - have a look at her electoral record. Six years in office and getting more popular by the day. She must be doing something right Wink

19lottie82 · 07/05/2020 22:44

Scotland get free prescriptions

And where do you think that money comes from? Do you not think it could be put to better use than paying for prescriptions for people that are able to pay for them?

IKEA888 · 07/05/2020 22:47

she's a genuinely nice person.

amber763 · 07/05/2020 22:57

She's a fantastic woman and leader and the most coherent politician in the UK. She cares about people and wants what's best for Scotland unlike the tories who want what's best for their bank accounts.

Boredsheep · 07/05/2020 23:11

I can only take a wild guess where the 49% of voters who voted YANBU are from Grin

She’s awful.

CayrolBaaaskin · 07/05/2020 23:13

She’s very popular in Scotland winning election after election

Jayfeem · 08/05/2020 00:02

“That would be a big no from me. I'm Scottish, living in Scotland, with two children in the wreckage that is the Scottish education system.”

I know of no parents in Scotland who see the educated system as a “wreckage” Confused

BBCONEANDTWO · 08/05/2020 00:15

Gawd no no no.

JeDeFloupFlee · 08/05/2020 00:18

Being scottish and having moved to England recently, I can say, in my experience that school in Scotland was far better

Bella2020 · 08/05/2020 00:30

Sturgein us hugely and deliberately divisive up here. Her raison d'etre is independence and hating anything English or anti-independence. I dont know where you get the idea Scottish schools are better? They really arent; the education system here has been failing for years. The NGS situation here is dire with much longer waiting times than England and have you heard about the sagas of the QUEH in Glasgow and the sick kids hospital in Edinburgh? Look them up if not.
There has been much controversy here over the Scottish Exec nit passing on the UK government's grant money for businesses and they're still passing only 75% of the allotted cash for subsequent premises.
How about the sage of Dr Caldewood, chief medical officer. Sturgeon was determined she would stay, probably as she is pro-indy, and refused to sack her even though she totally undermined her own lockdown guidance.
The daily media briefings are ALWAYS fronted by her, noone else is permitted and journalists are never given the chance to follow up like the Downing St ones; they are cut off as soon as they ask the question.

I could go on and on about the things that go on up here. It's not the friendliest place any more, that's for sure, very divided.

Jellycatspyjamas · 08/05/2020 00:31

And where do you think that money comes from? Do you not think it could be put to better use than paying for prescriptions for people that are able to pay for them?

And incur the costs associated with administering a pay as you go system? The money comes from not running hugely expensive vanity projects like HS2, not pretty much privatising education - Scotland generally has different priorities for spending.

I’m not a nationalist, by any means, but I think she’s doing a good job here. There’s clarity around decision making, she looks to substantiate decisions with science and is clear and direct. She’s also approaching this with compassion and care for people. I rarely have a good word for her, but I’m glad she’s a buffer between scotland and Westminster at the moment.

Tigertrees · 08/05/2020 00:33

Bella Sturgeon's reason for existence is to hate anything English? Are you hard of thinking? What a ridiculous thing to say and nullifies any argument you might make subsequently.
