To be English and think Nicols Sturgeon would be a better PM

Just that really, I live in England but would quite happily vote for NS to be PM if given the choice over BJ. To me she seems much more trustworthy and has shown better leadership.

The U.K. government didn't even tell her they were changing the slogan . They are the ones being divisive.

Divisive? No. Usual arrogant assuming all the power to themselves dismissive of the other nations? Yes.

The NI government are saying pretty much the same thing as the Scottish. ie. 'FFS stay at home'. But we're not hearing so much about that because it doesn't fit the anti-indy narrative. The NI gov is run by Unionists.

TheVanguardSix · 11/05/2020 11:00

I want Angela Merkel as PM!

Potterspotter · 11/05/2020 11:23

Ah Merkel, we live in hope. A truly wonderful leader.

MissEliza · 11/05/2020 12:16

Assuming all power to themselves dismissive of other nations. What do you mean by 'other' nations? They are the British government, governing all four nations, except in the areas which are devolved. You're forgetting or misunderstanding how our political system works. The Scottish government is free to make the decisions it wants using its devolved powers. NS can tell the Scots to stay at home if she wants. However, the furlough scheme which is keeping many at home is funded by the U.K. government and they can't do it forever. They need to gradually get the country back to work. If the SNP want it to go on indefinitely, they can pay for it themselves.
Someone mentioned the R number is higher in Scotland. I would suspect this is down to the problem in care homes. Social care is a devolved power so NS can crack on with tackling it. I suspect she'll find a way to blame the Tories for it.

Hueandcry · 11/05/2020 12:22

Say what you want about Nicola Sturgeon & it's clear on here that opinion is divided but as far as I am aware (& I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) she has presented every briefing herself. If nothing else she deserves praise for that. Yes, I know Boris was hospitalised, but even so he has not stood there at every possible opportunity & taken responsibility for the decisions made

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 11/05/2020 12:28

See my user name

Hueandcry · 11/05/2020 12:28

Meaning?

MissEliza · 11/05/2020 12:41

She has presented every briefing herself because she loves the limelight!

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 11/05/2020 12:47

@Hueandcry meaning no fuck that!

Hueandcry · 11/05/2020 12:48

I disagree. I think she knows the importance of consistency & clarity of delivery

Hueandcry · 11/05/2020 12:49

Fuck what? I don't understand your point

MissEliza · 11/05/2020 12:54

I actually like the fact the Westminster briefings use different ministers. I think it underlines the fact that there are many different aspects to controlling Coronavirus.

Hueandcry · 11/05/2020 13:05

I think it gives too much room for mixed messages

Snugglepiggy · 11/05/2020 13:12

Is it me ?Wasn't NS the one touting the idea of social bubbles only last week ?The media jumped all over that one and to a certain extent and by a lots comments on MN, that raised people's hopes. Now it's nope we're the sensible ones and Boris is a very naughty boy. Not that I'm defending him.But I have to switch her off.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 11/05/2020 13:16

@Hueandcry really? As in fuck that - no she would be an awful PM, her and her SNP can do one

Hueandcry · 11/05/2020 13:19

@SheSaidNoFuckThat clearly you haven't read the previous 10 pages, we've established that it's hypothetical. She us First Minister & has no desire to be PM

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 11/05/2020 13:26

@Hueandcry was just answering the question in the title, have no desire to read 10 pages of drivel related to her

potterspotter · 11/05/2020 13:32

NS has less to control than the UK govt precisely because NS can blame any economic issues on the UK govt. The SNP is held to very little account and has more time to get their message right.

Srictlybakeoff · 11/05/2020 13:48

She is articulate and caring, and is clear in her principles. Most of the people I know think she is doing a great job. She does look very stressed and I believe she is committed to doing her best in this crisis.
I have friends who work at the scottish parliament , and they describe her as able and extremely intelligent.
For all the people saying keep her - I wish we could get you to keep Boris to yourself. Scotland didn’t vote for him. He completely lacks any morals, principles or work ethic. This is evident not just during this crisis but for years before he came to power. All his decisions , and the way any announcements are made , are politically motivated rather than being based on concern for what is happening to ordinary people

Hueandcry · 11/05/2020 14:03

@Strictlybakeoff I agree. I didn't vote for her & I'm not a supporter of the SNP but I do think she is doing a great job during this crisis

Peppafrig · 11/05/2020 15:19

At least the media are now reporting that most of what Boris said only applies in England.

Jellycatspyjamas · 11/05/2020 15:49

I actually like the fact the Westminster briefings use different ministers. I think it underlines the fact that there are many different aspects to controlling Coronavirus.

I think it gives room for mixed messages and no accountability - they can all point the finger at each other. It feels like government by popular opinion - float something out in the media, see the reaction it gets and act accordingly, and get someone else to front it.

I’m no fan of NS, I don’t favour independence but my goodness I’m glad she’s at the helm here at the moment.

Aesopfable · 11/05/2020 16:05

I wish we could get you to keep Boris to yourself. Scotland didn’t vote for him

Scotland didn’t vote for Nicola either. Only one constituency voted for her and for Boris. And the SNP are a minority government.

MissEliza · 11/05/2020 16:12

How exactly is NS doing a great job? I'm genuinely interested to know what you think she has personally done to help Scotland through the crisis. I mean actions, not words.

Jellycatspyjamas · 11/05/2020 17:13

In fairness it’s her job to put words around the science and the approach being taken here and she’s doing that well. I’m not sure what you mean by what she’s done personally? I very much doubt she has time to be delivering shopping or sewing scrubs or whatever other virtue signalling activities folk involve themselves in.

She’s open and honest about her sense of personal responsibility for her decision making in this and the potential impact on the lives of people if she gets it wrong. Which is more than I’m seeing in any of the stream of people fronting Westminster.

What has Boris done personally to help the U.K.?
