To think Nicola Sturgeon is deluded

Sadie789 · 07/05/2020 13:05

... if she thinks that people who want to exercise twice a day aren’t already exercising twice a day.

And that if Boris eases lockdown restrictions on Sunday that the whole of Scotland is going to accept being trapped at home for another three weeks?

And that the shops and takeaways and other businesses that are already opening up are going to suddenly revert back to a strict lockdown?

And that the “economy can recover”?

Really?

This is a crazy agenda.

To think Nicola Sturgeon is deluded
lowlandLucky · 07/05/2020 14:23

I am in S.W.Scotland and road that passes my place has gone from a dozen cars using it at the start of lockdown to bloody loads of them in the last 10 days. Cars with cycles and kayaks on the roof, herds of bloody camper vans ( not a single caravan) and huge timber lorries have all gone back to normal numbers. Lockdown is on its way out in Scotland no matter what NS has to say

KingJarvis · 07/05/2020 14:23

I’d never trust Sturgeon. She only cares about her agenda. That’s it.

Megatron · 07/05/2020 14:24

@Tootletum None taken, we can be touchy bastards sometimes too. Wink

swimlyn · 07/05/2020 14:24

She uses “I” a lot. Just listened to her on the radio and she used it 10 times in 1 minute.

Oh my God - this must be the end of the world!

IPMSL…

MyDaughtersLeftFoot · 07/05/2020 14:25

@Aesopfable she committed to closing schools before WM did

Dotty1970 · 07/05/2020 14:25

Methtones

I trust her more than I trust boris. She has some real rationale behind what she is saying.

This

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 14:26

And she closed construction sites and there is no sign of them opening until she says so

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 14:26

Lockdown is being very much adhered to in my part of Scotland the roads are empty .

JustAnotherPoster00 · 07/05/2020 14:27

Scotland’s economy is fragile as it is. It will never recover from prolonged lockdown.

It’s time to balance the lives lost to COVID with the lives, and livelihoods, lost to lockdown.

Oh Nudge unit posters are back then

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 14:28

’d never trust Sturgeon. She only cares about her agenda. That’s it.

Just like every other politicians ever then? Do you think Boris doesn't have an agenda ?

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 14:28

@StoorieHoose actually essential construction is still happening right now
It was only non essential worksites she closed . Thank god she did so many of those sites don't even have hot running water to ensure the safety of the workers. Never mind they can't keep 2m apart.

Astrabees · 07/05/2020 14:29

there is no legislation that limits exercise to once a day.

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 14:30

Sadie is Defo head of anti NS nudge unit @JustAnotherPoster00 - not a Scotland thread goes by without her NSBad postings

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 14:31

I know Peppa - site DH was working on had 1 portaloo for 50 guys with a trickle of water and no soap! I'm glad she stopped non essential building works.

lyralalala · 07/05/2020 14:31

Any confusion about any easing of measures will only happen if Westminster continue to announce England-only things (like the death in service - that was for England with money going to the other nations to set up schemes, yet it wasn't once clarified in the announcement that it was for England) whilst also talking about UK things and not making any distinction between the two.

It won't be NS, or Mark Drakeford, muddying the waters or confusing people, it'll be Westminster. No matter how the daily fail stir it.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/05/2020 14:32

there were 260,00 excess deaths worldwide from the recession in 2008.

That is the same number of worldwide deaths as there’s been from Covid in a few weeks. That’s with lockdown and probably an underestimated number at that. The number in the next year or so, especially lifting lockdown could be past the million mark at least. No recession could kill so many people so quickly.

While I don’t dispute coronavirus is an awful illness, which is responsible for many, many deaths, this comment is not comparing like with like. The total figure thus far are overall deaths attributed to covid19 rather than total excess deaths, which is a far smaller number. Idk what the true figure is or will be. But when comparing, it is essential that we compare the correct stats.

As for Nicola sturgeon, I’m Not sure she’s deluded.

lyralalala · 07/05/2020 14:32

there is no legislation that limits exercise to once a day.

Except in Wales where there is

Sadie789 · 07/05/2020 14:33

@StoorieHoose what does that make you then?

OP posts:
Mascotte · 07/05/2020 14:34

There is no once a day exercise rule.

Just saying. Again 😃

Truthpact · 07/05/2020 14:35

I thought lockdown had ended already here. At least that's the way it seems with all of the parties people are having.

My area keeps rising in covid cases. No one cares.

JellicleCat · 07/05/2020 14:37

Nope. But I do think Boris is deluded. Just because people are already breaking the rules doesn't mean they should be relaxed.

Sadie789 · 07/05/2020 14:37

@Mascotte I don’t disagree with you.

But then why are both NS and BJ talking about “letting” people exercise more than once a day as some sort of lockdown concession?

They are toying with us.

NOT a fan of the SNP or NS.

However, I believe she is correct to insist lockdown should remain unchanged for the next 3 weeks. Scotland (esp rural, Highlands, Borders, Skye etc) is behind in terms of the 'peak' and it would negate all the hard work done so far and to lift now, for the sake of 3 weeks, would risk a 2nd peak with the R number still too high.

I LOVED the 'I'm not point scoring' - she does that like she breathes, ALL politicians do - but she is right about this, certainly, imo.

SodOffCovid · 07/05/2020 14:43

I really think NS is just trying to get her sword in before Boris gets a chance to speak. That way she can say for every (sorry but inevitable) death still to come that it's on him. If things improve, which hopefully they will, she is some sort of saviour. It's political all the way and she can flip flop the argument in her favor now.

I feel nervous about the lockdown easing but it's got to happen sometime and we are yet to see what the plans truly are. I am in the south of England and can say that today, excluding the closed shops like hairdressers, local businesses, it seems like a normal non-lockdown day. I've been for a walk with my toddler and literally NOONE we walked past adhered to social distancing. We stepped in to people's driveways, shopfronts etc to avoid people as best we could, but honestly people now look at me like I'm mad...
