To think Nicola Sturgeon is deluded

Sadie789 · 07/05/2020 13:05

... if she thinks that people who want to exercise twice a day aren’t already exercising twice a day.

And that if Boris eases lockdown restrictions on Sunday that the whole of Scotland is going to accept being trapped at home for another three weeks?

And that the shops and takeaways and other businesses that are already opening up are going to suddenly revert back to a strict lockdown?

And that the “economy can recover”?

Really?

This is a crazy agenda.

YANBU.
In fact it is only when I go on MN I remember there is rule about once a day (tho get confused about whether they are Gvt rules or MN rules.
I exercise before and work just as an always have.

SodOffCovid · 07/05/2020 14:45

I'd like to add that based on the fact the R is higher in Scotland at present it would seem like a sensible suggestion. However, if Boris does relax things in England she will have a bloody hard time convincing people in Scotland to continue surely?

Frazzled2207 · 07/05/2020 14:49

I’m not Scottish but in any kind of contest between NS and BJ she just wins hands down. This side of the border she just comes across as credible and coherent. And if she wants Scotland to take a more cautious path out of this then good for her (and Scotland).
Agree that being able to exercise twice a day is not really a thing. I exercise my children most days and myself every day regardless of whether I took my kids out or not (please don’t report me!).

twilightermummy · 07/05/2020 14:50

I think what she said was sensible seeing as Scotland is in a slightly different position to the rest of the UK right now. I also believe that she genuinely cares about the people she represents and always has.
I also believe that had it been left to our Government, and they hadn't been influenced by the rest of the world, then we would have all had to play Russian Roulette with Herd Immunity shudder

slashlover · 07/05/2020 14:53

That way she can say for every (sorry but inevitable) death still to come that it's on him

She clearly said several times today that Scotland and England were in different positions and Scotland had a higher R number. She even mentioned that Scotland may have to open in various areas due to differences.

Several journalists asking questions were obviously trying to goad her into slagging off Boris but she refused to do so.

Charmatt · 07/05/2020 14:54

I am in England, however, I think NS has conducted herself extremely well during this situation. She is clear and honest and she does not shy away from difficult questions. I think she is making decisions based on the best interests of the citizens of Scotland, and I wish we had leadership as clear and decisive as her.
She was quite emotional talking about care home deaths in the Scottish parliament and to me, she comes across as genuine and committed. I like her an awful lot more than I did before 20 March!
I wish England had a strong leader like her!

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 14:56

@Sadie789 that makes me someone who notices you post on every relevant thread to criticise NS. Nothing more nothing less

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 14:57

Sorry StoorieHoose I thought you were saying it was a bad thing she closed them.

StoorieHoose · 07/05/2020 14:59

No worries. I was just pointing out that she had done somethings differently that WM

JessicaDay · 07/05/2020 14:59

YABU. You’d object to anything she said or did on an emotional knee jerk basis.

HistoryKnows · 07/05/2020 15:00

Sheep led by baboons.

Thats how I would sum up the current Coronavirus crisis.

If it continues in this ridiculous, scare-mongering way, the cost in terms of the economy, and peoples lives in general, will be incalcuable.

Lockdown should be lifted in a sensible way.

Nicola Sturgeon is one of those busybody over-active politicians who always think they are right. They do alot of harm.

JKScot4 · 07/05/2020 15:02

@history
Would you rather she was an absentee politician like Bawjaws?
If she’s pro active she’s criticised, if she was non active she’d be criticised, would you call a man a busy body?

HistoryKnows · 07/05/2020 15:03

When politicians like Sturgeon are "getting emotional over carehomes" you know they are politically suspect and milking it for the media for all its worth. Still people are taken in by this guff.

bellinisurge · 07/05/2020 15:04

She's better than Johnson. And I don't particularly like her. He and the rest of his Cabinet are useless shite. He dragged them in after alienating anyone any good. By "good", I mean competent.

HistoryKnows · 07/05/2020 15:04

JK - I think Boris Johnson is handling it badly as well. Why are you making such aggressive assumptions? It wasn't a sexist remark - you idiot = applies to many politicians the police too.

TabbyMumz · 07/05/2020 15:05

"There is no once a day exercise rule"
There is in Wales.

HistoryKnows · 07/05/2020 15:06

But this is MN and people where people are permanently offended and everything is sexism, racism or transphobia! I forgot for 10 seconds!

DivGirl · 07/05/2020 15:07

Scotland has a higher R number because people have stopped following lockdown. She's not deluded to want to extend lockdown, she is deluded if she thinks anyone is listening (that goes for Boris too).

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 15:08

Is Boris showing his face today in a briefing or is he not offering any clarity till Sunday?

101problems · 07/05/2020 15:09

Another thread for the Scotland bashers.

milveycrohn · 07/05/2020 15:14

When the lockdown started and we were told we could 'exercise', I assumed it to mean near to my house. Then I heard Michael Gove say for an hour a day.
I was therefore a bit shocked to discover family members going for 10 mile walks for their 'exercise', or a similar 'run'.
But actually the guidelines do not say that.
No one goes out 'Twice a day'. Thats ridiculous.
Round my way, the traffic has increased, and people seem to have decided for themselves. They are just going out.

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 07/05/2020 15:14

It’s outrageous isn’t it OP!

She’s behaving like Scotland is a completely different country. Totally deluded woman.

And like Scotland has healthcare as a devolved matter. Nuts. She’s totally nuts.

Defenestratethecat · 07/05/2020 15:15

I think she'll have a problem maintaining lockdown. Our region has less than 300 confirmed cases, we've (thankfully) had no-one die for almost a week. The streets are getting busy, people are stopping to chat in the street, there are work vans all over the place and businesses are starting to reopen (builders and hardware supplies along with some small food shops which have been closed for weeks.)

No fan of NS but she has been far more statesman-like in her presentation than BJ who is all about soundbites and platitudes.

Chochito · 07/05/2020 15:16

Scotland has fewer deaths per 1000 than England, no? And more available hospital beds per capital too? So maybe part of that is down to the Scottish people following NS' guidelines.

slashlover · 07/05/2020 15:17

Nicola Sturgeon is one of those busybody over-active politicians who always think they are right. They do alot of harm

Did the people criticising her actually watch today? One of the reporters asked a question and she said she would go away and investigate before answering. When pushed, she actually admitted that she didn't know the answer and didn't want to waffle/lie to people. How many politicians do you think would utter the words "I don't know."?
