Exactly that really. Still 4,000 odd infections a day, 600 deaths a day and there easing up on Monday.

I realised that the things I'd always done and assumed were normal were not.... Like carrying hand sanitizer and using after touching surfaces on public transport, turning way from panting spitting runners, hating people touch my phone, pens etc . I think I have been distancing always and now the world has caught up 😀

rwalker · 06/05/2020 19:57

FFS heard it all now murder
if lockdown end you personally can still shield and isolate fuck all is stopping you .

bellinisurge · 06/05/2020 19:58

Yes

Humina · 06/05/2020 19:59

This is how I feel.

Oblomov20 · 06/05/2020 20:00

I think they will lift it too much.
But I think people are already ignoring the rules.

Neome · 06/05/2020 20:01

Whatever the strategy I don’t feel at all confident that I and many of those I love will survive catching covid19.

AtomicRabbit · 06/05/2020 20:01

Some people would rather get sick, then get better and at least be able to put food on the table. Unemployment is through the roof and people have no money. They can't eat air. They have no choice and need to work. Is it right? No of course not, but money doesn't grow on trees.

joydivisionovengloves1 · 06/05/2020 20:03

I'm guessing there'll be another announcement very soon to say everyone must wear a face mask

Firef1y72 · 06/05/2020 20:15

@cologne4711
I would like them to say you can meet up with one person or in a small group for outside exercise as long as you stay 2m apart. Then I could see my personal trainer again in my garden.

OMG so much this. I've done 6.5weeks of PT via Zoom, it's great she does that, but no-where nearly the same as face to face

underneaththeash · 06/05/2020 20:19

@Humina and me.......
but the monster for most people will be the economic slump, the lack of routine NHS care, the increase in domestic violence and murder, the lack of social care for neglected children, the loss of education for thousand ds of children and the mental health aspect of lockdown.

The effect of lockdown vs the risk of dying of coronavirus is significantly higher for the majority of people in the UK and
EVEN IF ITS NOT YOU JUST STAY IN rather than adversely and selfishly affecting the lives of millions of other people.

user1471510720 · 06/05/2020 20:20

Are you stupid?? Surely some of you can see that the whole rotten thing was a joke. Even the guy proposing lockdown was having it away with his mistress. You couldn’t make it up. That’s how serious he took it. The media forced the Government into lockdown and now they have to pretend to ease the restrictions slowly. Makes me mad.

LakieLady · 06/05/2020 20:24

I think this is quite likely.

PowerToTheMeeple · 06/05/2020 20:35

The thing is there is going to be a second peak more likely than not regardless, so it’s about when they let that happen also balancing it with the economy I suppose. I’m a student nurse who has opted in, many of the ward are turning back to ‘normal’ wards now. We are contracted to end of July, but I imagine that if a second peak comes then they will extend the contracts. If you don’t opt in you can’t go out into practice and we are kind of being used as HCAs in some circumstances. The staff at the hospital are just waiting for the second wave to hit, and many think it would be better to happy over summer before winter pressures as otherwise the NHS will really really struggle.

phpolly · 06/05/2020 20:36

Unfortunately there is only one way to find out. The government has obviously decided to let this happen. I'm in London, and I just cannot imagine how there won't be a second peak, perhaps bigger than the first, especially once people are using public transport again. Given what we know about the general risk to men v women who catch Covid, I am petrified at the idea of my husband taking the tube to work again. And to those posters who are a bit cavalier about the whole thing, I can only assume you are young enough to think that somehow you won't be affected. Maybe you don't have parents or grandparents.

ambereeree · 06/05/2020 20:40

People really believe the lockdown was to eradicate the virus? It was to slow down transmission.
More people are going to be dying from poverty related illness than covid 19 if we don't get back to work.

Neome · 06/05/2020 20:46

Dear user1471510720 my father’s death was not a joke.

itsniceoopnorth · 06/05/2020 20:52

What would you do as an alternative ?

HeronLanyon · 06/05/2020 20:53

Oh neome really sorry to read that. Support. Can’t imagine how tough that is. My lovely old ma died last year and I’ve thought a lot of how it’s been so tough for so many now.
Support.

JemimaShore · 06/05/2020 20:56

Neome Thanks

MarrowWang · 06/05/2020 20:59

So why is the healthy working or school age population on lock down? Why not just over 65s and rhe medically vulnerable?

Going from forums and such, apparently its unfair to expect the vulnerable and elderly to stay in while everyone else does not need to. Something about separate but equal..etc. I get that some have carers so lockdown makes it less likely the carers will spread it and such, but the general reply to this seems to be..if I am in lockdown, you should be too because fairness Hmm

Neome · 06/05/2020 21:00

Thank you. Sadly real loved people are dying and many friends and family members will be deeply affected and not be able to just pick up where they left off before the lockdown started.

DahliaDay · 06/05/2020 21:03

face masks are useless, why would government say we all have to wear them?

Noextremes2017 · 06/05/2020 21:06

Fairness?? What?

I am over 65 so need to isolate? You are 30 have a job and are providing for your family - so you need to isolate too?? Even if it means you lose your job and income.

Have people lost their senses?

BlueBrian · 06/05/2020 21:07

face masks are useless, why would government say we all have to wear them?
Whether they work or not is irrelevant to the government, it makes them look like they are doing something, if they order them to be worn.

Noextremes2017 · 06/05/2020 21:08

Facemasks for everyone?

That will be useful for all the muggings that take place!!

Give me strength!
