To feel like the only woman left who doesn't shave her pubes? 😂

During a group WhatsApp with friends last night, conversation (somehow!) turned to pubes. It would seem I am the only one who doesn't shave the whole lot off. I've done it a couple of times in the past but it itched when growing back and I actually feel sexier with a bit of a muff! Does anyone else not shave these days or am I a vile ogre?

Looking forward to getting my Hollywood hairdo back

Saladmakesmesad · 05/05/2020 15:30

I am petite and there’s a 15-year age gap between me and DP - he’s jokingly said before it’s like being with a child

God, what a horrible comment. I can't imagine how that didn't kill your sex life.

GabsAlot · 05/05/2020 15:30

Its like being with a child-how disgusting to even say it

QuestionableMouse · 05/05/2020 15:32

70s bush here. 😂😂😂

I tidy it up now and then but I couldn't be bothered with the upkeep. Legs are also mostly left hairy.

JemSynergy · 05/05/2020 15:32

Hmm the dying of pubes do people really do this?

RingaRosie · 05/05/2020 15:32

I’ve never had the lot off. Had a couple of bikini waxes for holidays, when I was younger.
Only one bloke (out of quite a few...) ever mentioned it (he shaved his own & his back / chest).
I noticed in Normal People that Marianne has a full bush. I glad to see that, actually!

Gross. I also hate when people on here compare having no pubes to a pubescent child, there’s just no need.

Joanofardvark · 05/05/2020 15:36

As other pps have said it does cause an itch to shave it all off. Reckon it’s porn that has made it a ‘thing’ but each to their own...unless your partner is insisting in which case google Ruskin who was such a backward Victorian he thought women didn’t or shouldn’t have pubic hair (or there could have been a more sinister reason, God knows...)

1forsorrow · 05/05/2020 15:37

At the very least a neat trim is appreciated by most people of either sex I would have thought, Bit past it now but back in the day any man allowed down there would have been shown the door if he'd mentioned "appreciating" a neat trim.

Back then being shaved was usually associated with giving birth and an enema as a shave and enema was the first thing the midwife did when you were in labour. I don't think many women of my age have positive associations with the shave or the enema.

I did know someone who used to dye her pubes, she was rushed in for an emergency section, her pubes being green at the time. She woke up and found, as well as the baby, a note saying, "Sorry we had to cut the grass." We did have a laugh about that at the school gate, after admiring new baby of course.

Maybelatte · 05/05/2020 15:38

When I’m pregnant I usually let it grow because I can’t be arsed cutting myself trying to reach around the bump. Other than that I keep it quite trim but not bald. I used to go completely bald when I was dating.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 05/05/2020 15:39

I am sorry to burst the bubble of the "looks pre pubescent/childlike" crowd, but having naked nether region on an adult woman seriously doesn't give any "omg it's like a child" vibes😂

nonsensicalmess · 05/05/2020 15:39

I'm not accusing the OP of anything, but sometimes posters would do well to think of the advice frequently given by MN that we don't always know the identity of strangers on the internet. That seems particularly pertinent when people are seemingly encouraged to provide details of their pubic hair, tampon insertion, or what their poos look like. Just sayin'......

Bertucci · 05/05/2020 15:39

I can’t think of anything more awful than shaving it. Stubble! Yuck.

I get the whole thing waxed.

Imapotato · 05/05/2020 15:40

I give it a trim in the summer months, just to keep it neat and stop it from sticking out the sides of my swim suit!

But over the winter I let it grow, it helps me to keep warm.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 05/05/2020 15:41

Personal preference. I hate the feel of superfluous body hair and shave my legs in winter. And yes, I whip off the downstairs wig. DH has never commented and I've never asked him for an opinion, but he couldn't care less about this sort of thing and likely doesn't have a preference. I do this for myself.

I have to question why some women take gratuitous offence when other women don't make the same choices as theirs. Especially when they start to insult each other. I don't ever see men doing this. Why does it matter?

minettechatouette · 05/05/2020 15:41

I don’t believe that many women get rid of the whole thing. It’s soo much effort and unless you get a (good) professional wax results in ingrown hairs. I think it’s a tiny minority who actually do this consistently.

ByzantinePrincess · 05/05/2020 15:43

Yeah it’s strange how angry people get at the idea of someone else doing something to their own body hair. “Oh my god it’s so much effort” yes but so is doing a 5,000 piece puzzle but guess what, if someone else does it then it doesn’t affect you!

Megatron · 05/05/2020 15:45

I always find these threads so odd. Partly because someone asking what other people do with their pubic hair is weird and partly because it's an issue that seems to provoke such strong feelings from the dos and don'ts equally.

Genuinely, who gives a shiny shite?

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 05/05/2020 15:46

A shiny vag more likeGrin

butterdaisy · 05/05/2020 15:48

@sparklingbrook I have never discussed this (and don't feel the need) and I have no idea of the pubic hair status of any of my friends and family so I have no idea.

What she said. Why on earth would you discuss it ?

MulticolourMophead · 05/05/2020 15:48

To those who trim - can I ask what you use please? Scissors? Shaver-type device of some kind? I like the idea of trimming hair shorter (usually go for waxes but that's out at the moment) - just no idea how to do it neatly. Thanks.

I run a comb through the hair, and use scissors to clip the hair flush to the comb. Saves cutting myself.

MarrowWang · 05/05/2020 15:50

Ha. I feel this way sometimes. I have done nowt with them since being about 20. I did try shaving but ended with a horrific rash, then tried waxing and got a rash, so...au naturale it is Grin

wantmorenow · 05/05/2020 15:50

viewfromthecouch & patsyie and a few others who I can't be bothered to name and link.

Just for future reference a grown's woman's vulva with little or no hair is pretty damn natural for many of us post menopause. My bush is a distant memory and being told I look porny, prepubescent or some of the other nasty judgmental descriptors offered here by posters is offensive.

You too may well wear this look in later life and I hope you aren't too disgusted with your own image. Listen and remember.

quietheart · 05/05/2020 15:52

@PumpkinP

I don’t, but that’s because I’m single. If I’m in a relationship then yes I do.

Why the difference?

MrsKoala · 05/05/2020 15:52

Ive always wondered If you shave it do you really run a razor over the whole area? How do you see what you are doing? Isn’t the surface too squishy to shave smoothly over? Don’t you nick bits? I’m crossing my legs thinking about it.

I’ve had mine waxed and I Lumea the undercarriage, back and sides and have a neat trimmed triangle at the front. I think that area looks fat without a triangle of hair - I know it sounds weird but the Rectangular landing strip makes it all too fleshy looking to me.

I have often had this type of conversation with friends and family so I don’t think it’s a weird thing to discuss. It’s only when you talk about stuff like this you realise how different people are, like how you wipe your bum and stuff. It wasn’t till I came on mn that realised people did it differently.
