To feel like the only woman left who doesn't shave her pubes? 😂

During a group WhatsApp with friends last night, conversation (somehow!) turned to pubes. It would seem I am the only one who doesn't shave the whole lot off. I've done it a couple of times in the past but it itched when growing back and I actually feel sexier with a bit of a muff! Does anyone else not shave these days or am I a vile ogre?

Very much an age thing, I would think. I am 53 and although I tidy up bikini line, I wouldn't want to shave it off. Reminds me of porn, and also (sorry) children, and also going to far tidying away the messiness of the human body. But I appreciate I am a product of my time and it is mainly fashion.

The aspect I don't like: is that both my young daughters 16 and 13 think they have to shave off their pubic hair. I find that a bit sad, just in terms of another bit of themselves they have to police rigidly because it is not acceptable to have hair down there.

StoppinBy · 05/05/2020 15:01

^^before forgetting how much it sucks.

sammylady37 · 05/05/2020 15:01

Some of those yes. And they are all subjective including wearing “nice” clothes or having your hair styled. There wouldn’t be an industry us we all looked the same thing which is ai suspect why these things become popular.
Often “a look” are as much about excluding other people, as those of us that would call them pathetic.”

Wow! Calling choices people make about their appearance, and what to do with their bodies, “pathetic” really is some bizarre logic.

I mean, I personally don’t like tattoos, or piercings other than ear piercings, but I don’t think they’re ‘pathetic’ modifications, they’re just not for me.

Each to their own etc but calling them pathetic is OTT.

bachsingingmum · 05/05/2020 15:04

Since you ask, no. I do a bit of a trim (long hair trimmer on an electric lady shaver) for cleanliness and a bit of extra round the edges if I'm going to be wearing a swimming costume. I do wonder how this became the fashion though. I've seen speculation that it's to do with the porn industry and the resulting expectations of young men, but also read that many women prefer it for themselves. In my teens and twenties (70s and 80s) I don't recall anyone got rid of the lot. It would have been thought really weird. We had communal changing rooms/showers back then, in case you're wondering. Each to their own, but not for me.

MrsJBaptiste · 05/05/2020 15:05

I take it all off and DH trims his so there's only a very small amount of hair down there.
We just both prefer it that way {shrug}

I always see other people say they don't want to shave all their hair off as the regrowth is so itchy but I've never had this at all, just a few nicks here and there at the beginning!

ByzantinePrincess · 05/05/2020 15:05

At the very least a neat trim is appreciated by most people of either sex I would have thought, doesn’t have to all go

Anonymouswasawoman · 05/05/2020 15:06

How can female pubic hair be virile?
I can't think of a word that expresses adult female sexual power. Can you?

Frozade · 05/05/2020 15:08

I have mine all of, much prefer it and find it more comfortable, rarely shave my armpits though.

bengalcat · 05/05/2020 15:08

I get mine waxed but at the moment just shave the bikini line - partner hasn’t recoiled in horror yet !

CrunchyCarrot · 05/05/2020 15:10

Nope I don't. I tried it once when I was a teen and yowch I will never, ever do that again. Misery.

KingOfDogShite · 05/05/2020 15:11

I used to but can’t be arsed now, I just hack it back with scissors when it’s threatening to take over the world.

Batfinklestein · 05/05/2020 15:11

I lumea my undercarriage bit (if you see what I mean) and then tidy round the edges of a neat triangle, bigger than a landing strip. I do it for myself because DH couldn't give a flying fig about the state of my pubes. I actually think he would prefer a 70's bush!
I used to get waxed and once the lady took the whole lot off by mistake. I hated it and DH wasn't keen. It looked like a plucked raw chicken, or one of those bald cats. Grin

5foot5 · 05/05/2020 15:11

Nope me neither.

Twice in my life I have had that area partly shaved for surgery and it itches like the devil when growing back.

The only thing I have done is occasionally trim with a pair of scissors if I am going on holiday and my swimsuit is less modest than I would like.

pumpkinbump · 05/05/2020 15:13

I haven't touched that beast since my daughter was born almost 2 years ago! Neither has anyone else.

seekingwaxwings · 05/05/2020 15:14

I used to shave it but got lazy and left it for a few weeks and dh remarked that he preferred me that way - he'd never expressed a preference before in over 25 years together! I realised I was pleased he didn't prefer the prepubescent look and also that when I was shaving he didn't ask me to grow it. I love my bush now and so does dh Smile

Beautiful3 · 05/05/2020 15:16

I leave mine alone apart from a trim once a month. I've tried shaving it all off, only to be faced with an angry regrowth and spots!

Thatnameistaken · 05/05/2020 15:17

We go to centerparcs once a year, anything that may stick out of the sides on my cozzie is sheared off...

notalwaysalondoner · 05/05/2020 15:17

I don’t know how women shave it all off - I do the edges before holiday and even then it itches so much after about one day and it also can trigger eczema where I’ve shaved. I have a trimmer to keep the overall area short, then if I’m on holiday I normally use removal cream for the bikini line as that doesn’t seem to irritate me so much.

For ladies who shave it all off, doesn’t it irritate you down there with itchiness and ingrown hairs when it starts growing back after a couple of days?

YetiAnotherNameChange · 05/05/2020 15:22

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Depends how I feel. Same with my armpits and legs, to be honest.

Snufkins · 05/05/2020 15:23

I prefer the hairless look and hate any hair being down there so I shave and have a decent enough technique nowadays that I don’t get bad regrowth but I never leave it that long.
I am petite and there’s a 15-year age gap between me and DP - he’s jokingly said before it’s like being with a child but he’s not bothered about it really and trims his own.
Even at 39 weeks pregnant I have kept it up, for me I’d cringe if it was wild down there giving birth! I find it a lot cleaner and fresher, especially when I’m on my period. But I wouldn’t judge anyone on how they choose to groom themselves it’s personal preference.

Thefaceofboe · 05/05/2020 15:25

You’ve obviously never read a thread on here about pubes before then. 99% of Mumsnet don’t shave apparently

Wannabegreenfingers · 05/05/2020 15:25

Varies. I've had all off and full bush, neither are particularly appealing to me. All off is full on maintenance and full bush is just a bit grim, it get's in the way and lessons sensation.

I'm settling for a trimmed bikini line - no spiders leg's hanging and cut the length down. Mine are pretty straight so no impressive 70's bush for me Wink

GabsAlot · 05/05/2020 15:26

nope i dont-did it once the regrowth itched like mad never again

JessicaPeach · 05/05/2020 15:27

I used to leave a strip but in pregnancy I got an enormous stretch mark right in that area so where I used to leave hair is now essentially a scarred bald patch! So now I just take it all off just because it's easier than trying to negotiate a shape considering the bald patch.

MorganKitten · 05/05/2020 15:28

Wax everything off. Magic smooth while in lockdown.
