To ask whether you’d be able to get hold of drugs if you wanted to?

Just that really. I’m against drugs of any kind and wouldn’t have any idea how to get hold of any even if I wanted to. I wouldn’t have a clue who to contact and didn’t think I knew anyone else who’d have such contacts either.

Came up in conversation with DH last night whilst watching a programme about drug trafficking that he knows a number of people in the area who are able to get hold of such things (cocaine, MDMA etc) and even deliver to our door! I’m shocked. DH says that most people have the contacts to get hold of drugs if they really wanted to, which I’m not sure I believe. Am I really this naive?!

Got a text from the same number saying that due to current climate, “he” closes at 9pm these days 🤦🏻‍♀️ Suppose it’s a bit more risky driving about at ungodly hours.

TheUser420 · 05/05/2020 14:10

Most of the weed sold in the UK is grown in the UK.

And most of the weed consumed in the UK is grown by the user, so off and under the radar at the same time.

It's only when you (used to ...) visit a hydroponics supplier and realise (a) how many of them there are and (b) how many people are using them that you get a sense of scale.

ChilliCheese123 · 05/05/2020 14:12

You can get it anywhere. I don’t do drugs, alcohol is enough for me on a night out but In my case I’d probably text my best friend who might have a drug dealers number, her boyfriend probably would. And I’d go and meet them outside for it, from the car. If BF didn’t have a number I’d text another friend who’d be able to get whatever from some acquaintance or other.

ilovesooty · 05/05/2020 14:14

Worked in criminal justice and drug services until last year so in all probability yes.

Ponoka7 · 05/05/2020 14:19

Yes, again because of people on the peripheral and also where I live. It's a rough bit of Liverpool and you could quite easily go and get a gang of the 15-22 year olds to smash up someone's house, car etc and pay them with gear.

Although when I worked in the bank and in healthcare, as well as other jobs, I could have got numbers from people.

FailingMeansYouArePlaying · 05/05/2020 14:21

If I wanted to I could yes.

YgritteSnow · 05/05/2020 14:22

I could cross my road to the half way house full of loud but not particularly troublesome young men and buy weed within five minutes if I wanted to. I'm sure they'd point me in the direction of any other "medication" I might require too.

1forAll74 · 05/05/2020 14:25

There is sure to be someone in the vicinity, who can get drugs,or will know someone else who can.. It matters none, if you think that only dodgy types of people do drugs, as all types of people do drugs and can access them easily.

slartibarti · 05/05/2020 14:25

I can! But because a drug dealer keeps texting me.

No idea where to get hold of drugs, but Sunny thinks I'm a dealer. Have had a couple of texts from him.
Just looked up norsing on urban dictionary Shock.

My niece knows some local lads who run their business through Instagram. They have their own logo of their page on the weed bags. Walking around in €1000 Jackets and mega expensive trainers.
It makes me feel old.
Though I do enjoy a recreational joint over a drink.

Summerofloaf · 05/05/2020 14:28

find "dodge" people who would either be selling or point you to a seller.

I'm sure they'd point me in the direction

Why would they though? How do they know you’re not undercover?
Most people won’t even give you directions in some cities in case you’re a social worker or immigration.

easily.

nobodysdaughter · 05/05/2020 14:29

Yes. I'd have to drive to the town down the road, but I could get literally anything quite quickly. But then I am a woman with a "past", and a couple of shady exs.

raspberryk · 05/05/2020 14:30

Yeah both my siblings and do "know people" who know people who would be able to get anything. My exH is a cocaine addict so there's him.
And in my street there's at least 1 couple who are smack heads and the bloke is a dealer and make no apologies or any attempt to hide this.

PhilSwagielka · 05/05/2020 14:30

I have a friend who does a lot of drugs, so if I wanted to take, say, MDMA, I'd get some off her, and I've got drugs off friends in the past. I was only an occasional user. I wouldn't take them now though. Too many mental health issues.

Diddyofalassie · 05/05/2020 14:33

I could ask my ex husband. He smokes weed and is a heavy metal musician so I bet he can get other stuff too. Doesn’t interest me right enough. Did when I was young, mind you 🤪🥳

1066vegan · 05/05/2020 14:35

I think people calling the op (and anyone else who doesn't know how to get hold of drugs) naive are either not reading the posts carefully or misunderstanding the word naive.

To say that nobody in your town takes drugs would be naive. To say that you've never had a colleague or acquaintance who takes drugs would be naive as some probably do but keep it quiet. Just saying that you wouldn't know where to go doesn't make you naive.

I could have got some drugs a couple of decades ago but wouldn't know where to start now. I live in a fairly quiet small town. I have absolutely no idea where the town's drug dealers live.

I smell weed when I'm out walking (people seem to be much more open about it than when I was young) but I couldn't just go up to a group of strangers and ask. I'd either get laughed at or recognised. Not sure which would be worse (A few months ago I walked past a group of teenage lads in hoodies on my way to the gym. After I'd gone past, a couple shouted hello, using my name. I hadn't recognised them but it turned out that I'd taught one years before. That would have been awkward if I'd tried to score something).

ProfessorSlocombe · 05/05/2020 14:37

How do they know you’re not undercover?

Because it takes a very very good copper to be a very good undercover officer, and they aren't going to waste that level of resource on the penny-ante stuff like street dealers. The old adage about there being a certain type of person that joins the police becomes crystal clear when you hear a group of youths pointing out the coppers in plain clothes ...

I wasn't joking upthread. We chose to follow our American betters and declare it a "War On Drugs" back in the early 70s. And 50 years on, it's impossible to argue anything other than the Drugs Won. Although there might have been a breakthrough in the late 80s, when delivery times for cocaine went from half an hour to an hour for an afternoon after a raid. But things were back to normal before the ink was dry on the custody forms.

nobodysdaughter · 05/05/2020 14:46

@ProfessorSlocombe they used to have 'test purchase officers' though. Not sure about now. A couple of officers pop on civvies and score off the street - big issue sellers, and homeless folk were particularly vulnerable to this.

Oh, I know - you have to throw the police a bone every so often. After all they have targets and most high level drug lords are very community minded and more than happy to help the police. As long as you measure success in the "War On Drugs" in metrics like product seized and arrests made, then they will always ensure that there's product to be seized and arrests to be made. Win-win. It would be a very bad day if some naive politician were to arrive on the scene and suggest different ways of measuring "success" (like reducing the number of addicts). But that's not going to happen anytime soon. Too many people have paid too much to let it.

safariboot · 05/05/2020 14:53

I wouldn't know. Considering my friends and acquaintances, I don't know who takes drugs, so I'd just be asking around blindly.

I know there's drug dealing in my area, but walking up to a parked car at night when I know nothing about the person inside doesn't seem very clever.

I'm tech-savvy enough that I could order from the dark web.

JoJothesquirrel · 05/05/2020 14:54

@slartibarti maybe I should put Sunny onto my guy. At least they’d know what they are talking about Grin

otterturk · 05/05/2020 14:55

I could have cocaine delivered within half an hour usually. Probably longer during lockdown as fewer dealers around.

I don't do this btw, but friends do.

nobodysdaughter · 05/05/2020 14:59

@ProfessorSlocombe

Very true. It's quite frightening to think of the resources used on these low level arrests, that could be used for rehabilitation.
