To not understand the queues?

Costa and KFC drive throughs have opened in my city this weekend. The queues have been massive. Just why?

People missing normality I guess, we have been in lockdown for five weeks now after all.

Strugglingtodomybest · 03/05/2020 07:56

@Prontoe

I had to go to the post office. Nothing strange or wonderful about that. But 30 times the normal amount going at the same time? Now that is fucking strange.

Ha ha! Well played Prontoe!

EmbarrassedUser · 03/05/2020 08:00

I’d love a fillet of fish, large fries and a strawberry milkshake 😋 I’m on a diet though so it’ll probably have to stay a fantasy even when it does reopen in our area.

WanderingMilly · 03/05/2020 08:14

Dunno, I wouldn't queue for a McDonald's, can't stand the things. But B&Q? Homebase? Yes, I'd queue all night if there was one open in my area.....

Prontoe

Sorry just to be clear you're whinging about people queuing in the post office whilst you were queuing at the post office? Seriously??

Ghostlyglow · 03/05/2020 08:31

@Stella8686 🙋‍♀️not a bot 🤖😉
Interested in all the replies too, just didn't really have anything to add Smile

Fair enough @Ghostlyglow 👌

I had a rough day yesterday 🙈

Sorry just to be clear you're whinging about people queuing in the post office whilst you were

Topseyt · 03/05/2020 12:04

Posted too soon there, but meant to add that that was ironic. GrinGrin

Prontoe · 03/05/2020 15:33

Just to be clear, I'm whinging about 30 times the usual amount of people queueing for the PO while I was queueing for the PO.

GREATAUNT1 · 03/05/2020 16:14

I did wonder how the people who live off this stuff would cope without it. I've never understood people wandering around carrying a coffee either. Just the same as I was baffled by the people who don't know how much money they spend, & were surprised at how much they saved by WFH ... 🤔

fascinated · 03/05/2020 16:30

I don’t feel I miss out, no... if there’s a queue I go away and come back later. What sort of things might I be missing out on ?

I suppose if I ended up at A & E I might have to queue, but I’d make an exception for that, no choice there.

Pickles89 · 03/05/2020 16:32

@LilacTree1

Hey. Really sorry but not in London! Maybe try a local Facebook group?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 03/05/2020 16:47

Prontoe

I expect in the spirit of solidarity they were probably whinging about there being 30 times more people there as well. They were, no doubt, also doing stuff that was important to them at the time and wondering why you couldn't do your stuff at another time. I can never understand why people moan about crowds, queues and packed supermarkets when they are part of it.

NewPapaGuinea · 03/05/2020 17:30

Why are these places now relaxing the shutdowns?

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 03/05/2020 18:25

They were always legally allowed to stay open, but because they aren’t exactly essential they decided to shut to stay on the safe side. It would have been really difficult to implement reliable social distancing overnight while remaining open, and if any of their staff had caught the virus they might have been legally exposed.

After a few weeks of watching what other stores were doing, and planning how to implement changes to keep social distancing in their stores/kitchens they decided that they could safely reopen.

Aridane · 03/05/2020 18:36

It's ridiculous. The Costa workers do not want to be there!

Same could be said pre-lockdown.

Grin
jackie2669 · 03/05/2020 18:43

Could be like the war see a queue and stand in line cause if there was a queue must be wort it .

Aridane · 03/05/2020 18:55

I go to the post office maybe once every 3 months. The queue in the past year has ranged from 3 people ahead of me (Christmas) or no people. Now 30 so and so's looking for stamps? Why????

@Prontoe

1). Lucky you only to have had x3 people in front of you in a post office queue pre Christmas!

2). Post offices local to me are long and narrow. Previously we’re all bunched together - eg 10 - 12 people on a Saturday morning. Now, spread out metres apart, we trail out of the door and down the street.

3). Another poster has commented on post office being only place open where certain bulls, top ups etc can be done

4). But show some fuckng empathy, common sense and compassion. We are on lockdown. People are separated from family, friends and loved ones. Some of those are required to shield. They are sending Cards, presents, suppplies. Remember - outside of Prontoe World, in the UK, one in ten people don’t even have access to the internet!

Aridane · 03/05/2020 18:57

What I don't understand is why so many people are now so fucking judgemental and sneery and nasty, couched under the pretext of not 'understanding' or faux confusion, about what other people chose to do with their time and money.

They’ve always been like that - let’s just say their qualities become. Ore pronounced in pandemic

Catwaving · 03/05/2020 19:20

For those of you 'desperate' for Macdonalds and burger kings.....you've had a few weeks, surely you can get a few of those burger bap things, cheep burgers and plastic cheese squares and make them by now? Or is it all the packaging you crave? (I too eat this stuff sometimes, but couldn't care less if they never even opened again)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/05/2020 19:25

Catwaving it’s not the same, and if the business is open I have the right to use it if I wish

Leflic · 03/05/2020 19:29

Dear lord, It’s s overpriced chicken and coffee. Both of which are readily available at home,
I love a bit of fast food but queuing for an hour just because it’s open
is truly pathetic.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/05/2020 19:31

Leflic whys it pathetic? People have nothing else to do

hoxtonbabe · 03/05/2020 19:39

@WanderingMilly

I received an email from Homebase stating they are opening their stores back up ( tomorrow I think) it wasn’t specific to my area just seemed like a nationwide thing so you may be in luck
