To not understand the queues?

Costa and KFC drive throughs have opened in my city this weekend. The queues have been massive. Just why?

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 02/05/2020 23:47

Restaurants near me (midwest US state) have been doing this since the lockdown. You can do curbside pickup of your prepaid order or walk in, pay, pick up your food, and next customer goes in. Drive throughs and cafes have been doing a roaring trade. Many restaurants started delivery service too. Pizza places put up perspex in their doorways inside the outer door (shop and restaurant doors open outwards here) and a counter, so you walk up to the door, ask for your slice/s, pay, and they hand you your pizza in a box. Local small ice cream place doing the same.

mathanxiety · 02/05/2020 23:48

And the queue wasn't even moving quickly! It seemed like every customer required a 10 minute consultation with their post office clerk

That's what my local main PO and branch office are like even at the best of times.

LilacTree1 · 02/05/2020 23:49

Maybe OP read the answers and had her question answered!

RedToothBrush · 02/05/2020 23:53

Or maybe the op went to bed. Thread was started after 9pm and it's now just before bedtime.

Just a thought...

RedToothBrush · 02/05/2020 23:53

Just before midnight sorry. My bedtime.

Stella8686 · 03/05/2020 00:07

@RedToothBrush I went through the thread, couldn't see any comment from OP at all, I could have missed it

Stella8686 · 03/05/2020 00:09

It's AIBU?

I'll answer then,

YABU for starting a pointless thread!

I agree with everyone else who said,

There are queues because people want the service

i queued for twenty minutes to buy my new favourite wine - currently 1/3 off in Waitrose but about to end soon. Basket had half a dozen bottles of wine, bar of chocolate & the Guardian - so I added a bottle of antibacterial spray to make it look a bit more 'serious'.
The spray is citrus and ginger, which sounds quite pleasant.

I'm getting ridiculously cross with people that have no concept of two meters; I know how far apart doesn't really matter, the number of people will determine how long you wait. Queuing area was marked out with metal barriers, each one is two meters long - making it fairly easy to work out where to stand.
NO! Loads of people leaving five panels - TEN meters between them and the next person.
Woman in front of me busy yabbering on her phone (after glaring at me for standing two meters behind her) was even more irritated by me interrupting when the gap in front her got much longer to ask whether or not she was in the queue.

Rant over, wine is chilled now, will be calming Grin

I never queue for stuff. Never.

Gingerkittykat · 03/05/2020 01:22

My local bakery has opened and I was really excited to go in and buy a couple of sausage rolls and cakes even though I don't normally bother. It was really quiet, but then it is never normally busy on a Saturday morning.

I had a chat with the woman behind the till and she said she was really happy to be back at work.

The poster moaning that other people dared to go to the post office needs to get a grip. I hate it when people go places as they deem their reason to be essential then moan because other people are also outside.

SD1978 · 03/05/2020 01:28

Nothing better to do and people being sheep. People jump on anything- especially now. Whether it's 'having' to bang pots every week, Fran bloody rainbows all over your drive or dress up to take out the bins, the sheeples will run to it. Same as going to a crap fast food place when you can still get decent take away food elsewhere.

Topseyt · 03/05/2020 01:42

I'd love our local chippy to reopen. I'm fed up of a weekly dose of oven chips now.

Our local Indian restaurant turned to takeaway only service right at the start of lockdown and has been operating that ever since. We had one a week ago and it was scrummy.

No doubt the dementors are about to swoop and try to tell me I am evil.

Prontoe · 03/05/2020 01:56

I had to go to the post office. Nothing strange or wonderful about that. But 30 times the normal amount going at the same time? Now that is fucking strange.

Inkpaperstars · 03/05/2020 01:57

Maybe it's an experiment to test how willing people are to go out.

I don't like KFC but this is a boon for the foxes. I saw one looking miserably in a bin the other day without finding anything Sad

Sparklesocks · 03/05/2020 02:02

If people enjoy it then leave them to it. No need for posters with their sneering outrage about fast food and cheap coffee. You aren’t better than anyone else because you’ve never eaten fried food.

Prontoe · 03/05/2020 02:05

As it was, I left the queue after 10 minutes and it not moving, as I wouldn't have made it in before they closed the doors. It just wasn't moving. The queue went to the end of the road and up a hill around a corner. For the fucking post office!! What business have you more than fucking usual??

Prontoe · 03/05/2020 02:09

*cheap coffee' You're having a fucking laugh? Last time I was in Costa it was £2.40 for a small Latte. Costa ain't cheap. It's convenient. That's why they're on the corner of every office block in the city. People want coffee. I preferred Café Nero but had to cross the road for that, so Costa it was. Also Costa had 3 tables out the back, so I could have my last cigarette with my latte, before going into work around the corner.

Clevererthanyou · 03/05/2020 02:11

incrediblysad 😂😂 brilliant

Sparklesocks · 03/05/2020 02:13

@Prontoe settle down, I meant from the perspective of someone who grinds their own beans of some exotic, rare blend and looks down on high street brands.

sobeyondthehills · 03/05/2020 02:13

What business have you more than fucking usual??

This has been explained to you, many, many, many times, which bits are you not understanding?

Yellowshirt · 03/05/2020 02:24

Tesco in Telford..... the queue is absolutely massive... the shop is empty.... the checkout girls are twiddling there thumbs....Why???

SunflowerSeedsForever · 03/05/2020 02:26

I never queue for stuff. Never.

You must miss out on so much in life.

Yellowshirt · 03/05/2020 02:26

And the fcuking security guard is stood there on his phone whilst wiggling his ear piece listening to the doom mungering at radio 2

TerrapinStation · 03/05/2020 07:39

*I never queue for stuff. Neve

Are you after a weekly clap? What an odd and frankly unbelievable claim to fame. Unless you live on your own and never leave the house that's quite clearly nonsense, but, hey, well done you.
