To not understand the queues?

Costa and KFC drive throughs have opened in my city this weekend. The queues have been massive. Just why?

In South Africa and Thailand, they have banned booze. In South Africa they have also banned cigarettes.

Now that is hard core.

Leflic · 02/05/2020 23:19

We are still supposed to be at home and only going out when essential. So really the only people in the queue should be people out working who need something to eat.
I’m not bothered either way but non essential travel is increasingly the norm. I think we will be out of lockdown before they officially announce it.

RedToothBrush · 02/05/2020 23:19

Poster asked for

If you have a recipe for oats, butter, eggs and milk (that is vaguely cake like and edible) please share

Not something gourmet and everyone would rush to make after 11pm on a Saturday night!

I merely delivered a solution to the problem posed!

Leflic · 02/05/2020 23:19

Burger King has opened it drive through near me!

@Prontoe if you are with British Gas the post office is now one of the few places you can top up, added to this, those people who got the warm home allowence are probably finding that they need to get gas now

Bowerbird5 · 02/05/2020 23:21

I won’t be in the queue.🤷🏼‍♀️

fascinated · 02/05/2020 23:22

Haha! Weird, right enough.

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:22

Every other year until now - 3 people max in a queue for the post office. Now 30? It's not just normal shit that has them there.

Bargainhuntbore · 02/05/2020 23:23

Queuing for a KFC? Ive never eaten it, the smell when passing (if and when I walk in town) turns my stomach 🤮

Each to their own....

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:25

I go to the post office maybe once every 3 months. The queue in the past year has ranged from 3 people ahead of me (Christmas) or no people. Now 30 so and so's looking for stamps? Why????

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:26

And the queue wasn't even moving quickly! It seemed like every customer required a 10 minute consultation with their post office clerk.

fascinated · 02/05/2020 23:27

Bargain, I feel that way abt Subway....

LilacTree1 · 02/05/2020 23:27

Prontoe you’ve only had your question answered seven times.

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:30

Lilac - you're selling shit on ebay? People do that all year round. You don't have a queue outside the fucking post office though.

LilacTree1 · 02/05/2020 23:31

Prontoe maybe they’re more desperate for cash than before?

Parker231 · 02/05/2020 23:32

Some of our local restaurants have turned to delivery or collection. It’s brilliant as it’s a small taste of our normal lives. It’s the same for people queuing at McD’s.

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:32

So everyone in the queue was selling tat on ebay - deseperate for cash.
Okay...…….

BackforGood · 02/05/2020 23:33

Yes - but you would have ordered them anyway. Normal purchases. Why 30 people queueing for the post office?

I'm guessing that a whole heap of those people would normally use the PO near their work - maybe in City Centres etc, but now everyone is having to use their local POs.
There are also the 70 000 who decided it was a good idea to post a birthday card to Cptn Tom. I don't know, but I suspect a LOT of them wouldn't have a stamp in at home and would have had to queue to buy them
Plus, all the things (like stamps) that you can often pick up from other shops, now have to be bought at the PO.

DeeCeeCherry · 02/05/2020 23:33

Because people like different things. It's not all about what you like, that's the only bit you should try to understand. I wouldn't queue at those places either. Someone else would tho, and that's fine.

Many are the judgey ways tho.

sobeyondthehills · 02/05/2020 23:35

And the queue wasn't even moving quickly! It seemed like every customer required a 10 minute consultation with their post office clerk.

Because they have to pay with card instead of cash and the way the post office system works (with top up) is charging the debit card a tenner, then taking the £10 out going over to the machine and using the cash to top up the key.

Of course that could just be mine, also British gas changed how you pay for top ups in January, so now the post office will be more busy because that is where you top up now, alot of shops don't do payzone

TinRoofRusty · 02/05/2020 23:38

I've bought loads on Ebay. We opened up a Harry Potter Cluedo we got a year ago in a raffle (brand now, still in wrapping) and the damn stickers for the die you need to play were missing, Ebay to the rescue. Ordered tshirts for us to tie-dye, some soup and sandwich platters (we've been eating a lot of soup and sandwiches for lunch).

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 02/05/2020 23:42

@Ilovemypantry
Aren’t we still meant to be staying at home and only going out for essential reasons? Or has lockdown been lifted?

Yeah, must admit that's got me a bit baffled as well.
I'm not isolating, just social distancing, but does have me feeling a bit of a mug sticking to rules sat at home not going anywhere unless need to shop or if I want to go for a walk.
People neeeed to get in the car for a Costa Drive through? What's that all about?
Hardly necessary travel

Comefromaway · 02/05/2020 23:43

We buy stamps in hundreds at work. If I needed to post a letter/birthday card I’d have sent it from work.

Now I’m at home I’d have to use the local post office.

I’d queue at KFC/McD drive through as I have an autistic son with a restricted diet. I get him a Dominoes delivery every Friday and we have a chippy delivery.

Stella8686 · 02/05/2020 23:44

@Ghostlyglow

Op has gone quiet 🤷‍♀️

What is the point?

Are you a bot?
