To not understand the queues?

Costa and KFC drive throughs have opened in my city this weekend. The queues have been massive. Just why?

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2020 22:55

Oh no. DS1 would have been all over a drive thru Wetherspoons. SadGrin

DHW1 · 02/05/2020 22:55

Because it represents a little bit of normality back in peoples lives

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/05/2020 22:56

Customers who visit are selfish and need to stay at home until all this is over until what’s over? How do you think this is going to be over?
Do people not understand, society won’t and cannot be locked down until Covid is eradicated.

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2020 22:57

But queuing for 90 minutes for a hot drink is as far from normal as it gets.

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 22:57

@Prontoe Since the start of lockdown I've ordered gardening tools for my parents' Easter present, a new valve for a leaking shower, pots and compost for my poor dying orchids, a couple of books my father wanted, sanitary towels (for some reason they don't sell the ones I use in stores any more) and a top from FatFace that I saw before the shops closed, but not in my size. I'm now looking to order some neoprene boots so I don't freeze my feet off in the sea.

Ye - but you would have ordered them anyway. Normal purchases. Why 30 people queueing for the post office?

TinRoofRusty · 02/05/2020 22:57

What are all the Dementors going to do with themselves once we're all released from Azkaban? Play chess and have sex? Grin

TinRoofRusty · 02/05/2020 22:58

Mea culpa! I had to queue at the post office! Should have been at home baking another fucking cake.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/05/2020 22:59

Do people realise if businesses’ open and no one goes out or shops there will be no jobs....as it is there will be a percentage of people who are happy to go out as pre-Covid, and those who are hesitant - tbh that’s how it probably needs to be.

justasking111 · 02/05/2020 23:02

@LilacTree1 DEMENTOR!!

Oh I needed that giggle. [grin}

AvocadoOwl · 02/05/2020 23:03

It's ridiculous. The Costa workers do not want to be there!

Same could be said pre-lockdown.

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:03

What am I going to have sex with exactly? A fly? Fucking nympho. Jeez. Are you a fucking rabbit? 'Have sex, have sex'. Ye. Because I'm that base.

TinRoofRusty · 02/05/2020 23:05

Sugar free flapjack using natural sugars of fruit...

Still need butter, but not to worry, how about you just mix some oats with water and imagine it's a cake whilst being grateful there's gruel in this world, CakeAndGin. Next time I'm in the post office I'll send you a hair shirt to go with it Grin.

Itstheprinciple · 02/05/2020 23:06

I think its just a taste of normality.

CakeAndGin · 02/05/2020 23:06

@RedToothBrush I’ve only ever made flapjack with sugar and golden syrup before, so I’m assuming you’re making sugar from dried fruits and not the oranges, nectarines and bananas I’ve got in the fruit bowl/on the kitchen table? Do you have a recipe you use? Flapjack doesn’t take as long as making a cake but at least I can buy dried fruit and oats at our local supermarket.

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:08

Surely an eggy milky gruel with a few sultanas thrown in and baked on greaseproof paper should work?

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 02/05/2020 23:09

She specifically said she had butter Tin.

Russellbrandshair · 02/05/2020 23:10

I guess there's nothing else to do

Oh might as well get CV then 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hehe- the classic dementor response! ♟ You are far more at risk doing a weekly shop than alone in your bloody car but why let common sense ruin the fun of scolding people because you think you know better eh? 😆

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:11

Tip for the greaseproof paper and baking oaty things - GREASE, the greaseproof paper. Otherwise it sticks to it. Nods head wisely.

RedToothBrush · 02/05/2020 23:12

freefromfairy.com/banana-date-flapjacks-gluten-free-dairy-free-refined-sugar-free/

First one I've googled. Seems to be alternatives if you do a bit of searching around.

Looks possible to do if you can't get hold of sugar, butter or flour.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 02/05/2020 23:12

KFC I'd queue for cause it usually tastes the same. Maybe not for that long though

Mcds when its opens...can be so hit and miss! Definitely would wait for that one.
Didnt know they did drive through Costas though

RedToothBrush · 02/05/2020 23:13

But yeah the poster who asked said she did have butter.

rookiemere · 02/05/2020 23:14

maggiecate you beat me to it with the Krispy Kreme reference. It was hysterical the queues- we went to Florida shortly after it opened so managed to get some without queuing and were amazed that they were ok but nothing special.

LilacTree1 · 02/05/2020 23:15

In terms of staff, none of that’s opening round here because it’s not a drive through area

There’s many in my block who would like to go back to work and they will perk up if they think they’ve got more chance

In terms of “if I had a car and could queue” - my normal commute is about 90 mins and I listen to music. So you could do that in the car and listen to audiobooks etc (I find the Tube way too noisy for audiobooks).

It’s encouraging to me to see this because it makes me realise I’m not the only one who really needs to get out of this horror.

Prontoe · 02/05/2020 23:15

Make it into a dough like mixture - fuck everything you have in and mix it together - throw in a handful of dried fruit, Bobs, your uncle and Fanny's your aunt. Just grease the greaseproof paper though.

justasking111 · 02/05/2020 23:16

Well I could go and bake banana bread with the bananas that are going brown in the bowl. Trouble is I find it disgusting so will not make it. Just because you can does not mean you have to!!

DS wants a McD so badly it is his go to comfort food. I daresay he will want one when they re-open.
