To not understand the queues?

Costa and KFC drive throughs have opened in my city this weekend. The queues have been massive. Just why?

OP posts:
Prontoe · 02/05/2020 22:03

Who the hell is online shopping? What you gonna buy?

B0bbin · 02/05/2020 22:07

I like coffee but wouldn't take the risk for it. I don't really like the fast food people are getting excited about. I like home cooked meals best so happy with the food situation and definitely baffled by people queuing for that kind of thing. But each to their own.

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2020 22:09

Is there a drive through Wetherspoons? Shock

I have done online shopping. Cat food, cat litter and some medication.

RedToothBrush · 02/05/2020 22:09

Well this highlights the problem this country has. If a cup of takeaway coffee is the dream for a taste of normality during lockdown then you've got bigger problems then covid-19.

Canshopwillshop · 02/05/2020 22:10

@prontoe - summer clothes that my kids have grown out of since last year, school books, stuff for the garden, gin, ink for printer, dog food, cat food - do I need to go on? Have you looked at what’s available online???

SpratsOnParade · 02/05/2020 22:12

If Macdonalds and Witherspoons are your normality then I guess so yes. I never eat fast food or have been in a Witherspoon!

Would you like your Superior Being medal now or should I have it personalised first?

SpratsOnParade · 02/05/2020 22:13

Who the hell is online shopping? What you gonna buy?

Literally anything you can think of?

AgeLikeWine · 02/05/2020 22:16

I don’t understand why drive-throughs had to close in the first place. They are, by definition, socially distanced.

I’m definitely looking forward to a post-lockdown sausage & egg McMuffin with ketchup. I might even have two! 🐷

LilacTree1 · 02/05/2020 22:17

Red “ If a cup of takeaway coffee is the dream for a taste of normality during lockdown then you've got bigger problems then covid-19.”

Well, in the absence of other freedom, as I said, even as someone who doesn’t buy coffee etc ....what would you prefer they did? I could wander round my rough are some more and admire the tower block from the outside?

Hairdowntohisknees · 02/05/2020 22:17

Didn't take long before the food snobs of MN to start sneering.

Pickles89 · 02/05/2020 22:17

@Prontoe Since the start of lockdown I've ordered gardening tools for my parents' Easter present, a new valve for a leaking shower, pots and compost for my poor dying orchids, a couple of books my father wanted, sanitary towels (for some reason they don't sell the ones I use in stores any more) and a top from FatFace that I saw before the shops closed, but not in my size. I'm now looking to order some neoprene boots so I don't freeze my feet off in the sea.

LilacTree1 · 02/05/2020 22:17

Age “ I don’t understand why drive-throughs had to close in the first place. They are, by definition, socially distanced.”

But they had to figure out ways to keep staff far apart.

Not defending this lunacy but that’s the answer.

Ponoka7 · 02/05/2020 22:18

Prontoe, as said clothes, shoes, goods that you would normally buy in the now closed shops. People are clearing out the hoyse and selling stuff on Ebay, as well as sending stuff to family/friends. The forms for the renewal for PIP came out just before lock down. They suspended them during lock down, but will want them in as soon as it ends. So people might be getting on top of paperwork.

It makes sense that we would use the post more.

Hairdowntohisknees · 02/05/2020 22:18

I'd queue for a Greggs chicken bake and a caramel doughnut.

EricaNernie · 02/05/2020 22:21

i drove to the beach today, i needed a change, and it is allowed

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2020 22:21

I am trying to think what food I would queue 90 minutes for at the moment. I can't think of anything.

Wehttam · 02/05/2020 22:21

Mediocre coffee from Costa complete with the bang bang crash wallop dramatic show they put on to make a drink and Kentucky fried baby are-they-even-chicken chicks?

I’ll pass, thanks lol.

AgeLikeWine · 02/05/2020 22:22

@LilacTree1 That sounds reasonable.

malmi · 02/05/2020 22:22

Really?? These venues have been open all day every day and full of customers for months and months, and then they are completely closed for weeks, and you can't understand why they are busy?

Be prepared for a heck of a lot more faux surprise over the coming months as more and more places start to reopen!!

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2020 22:22

Did you queue for it though @EricaNernie?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 02/05/2020 22:23

The coffee hut next to the train station opened up....in the mornings I’ve started walking up there to get a caramel latte. People who are never going out until Covid has disappeared are in for a shock.
It made me feel for a split second normal again, I supported a local business and it’s no different than me heading to the supermarket.

EricaNernie · 02/05/2020 22:24

there were 3, THREE, requests on my community facebook asking about the Tip!
god's sake, dont people know how to check the website?

i guess they wanted some normality

EricaNernie · 02/05/2020 22:24

no, @Sparklingbrook, but then I never buy KFC or MCD

Littleshortcake · 02/05/2020 22:25

I agree. It's not about the actual food. It's just something to do. To feel normal / social

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 02/05/2020 22:27

I’d kill for a KFC, but probably wouldn’t queue for 90 minutes. I did queue for 20 minutes at the bakers today though - not particularly because I wanted the bread that much but simply because when I saw the length of the queue I thought that I had nothing better to do than stand in a socially distanced way in the sunshine catching Pokémon.
