To be unimpressed with this substitution

I know these are difficult times but FFS Sainsburys! If I order a box of wine and it's not available, surely you should sub it for another box? Or perhaps 3 bottles so it's a similar amount. Not a single 18.7cl bottle. It's neither use nor ornament!

Could have been worse, I ordered a wine box in my click and collect delivery and Morrisons didn't substitute anything at all.

Lots of people complaining about the 80 item limit with Tescos but so far I've found that they have delivered most things and have a sensible system for individual substitutions and notes. Morrisons just didn't provide a third of my order, substituted a load more things for more expensive items which they charge you full price for and provide no way of refusing substitutions.

I'd really wanted to have coffee and a pastry for my 40th birthday breakfast today (hence the wine order). I'm coeliac so danish pastry type options are limited. I thought i'd covered the bases by ordering two types of gluten free puff pastry, frozen gluten free pain au chocolat and some cinammon swirls. None of which were delivered :-(

safariboot · 02/05/2020 16:18

I can't believe there was "No substitution available" for five cartons of milk that should have been in this morning's order. Meant I had to go out shopping anyway.

But the worst is items missing and still charged for! Like two packs of vapes (6 quid each) in this order. Now I have to phone up to get my money back, talk about a pain in the arse.

Also when an order comes in the evening with stuff that's use by today and this isn't mentioned at all in the list. Ffs.

Many years ago I ordered after 8 mints from Tesco and got cat treats instead! I did see the funny side of it and since then they have usually been pretty good with their substitutions.

@BeyondMyWits I learned something about my baffling Christmas delivery, thank you! Someone went without some very wanted festive eels. I think it was 2010 so I'm sure they've recovered now Smile

PotholeParadise · 02/05/2020 16:27

I bet they were reelly upset. Deep emotional appreciation of the finer things in life is what divides us people floudering along with our lives from the eel-ites.

PotholeParadise · 02/05/2020 16:28
  • floundering FFS, me. If I mess up the spelling these puns won't work.
MrsAvocet · 02/05/2020 16:34

Thanks lyralalala that makes sense.
I haven't been getting deliveries since they requested non vulnerable people not to, so its obviously changed. I have got one booked as my DH has symptoms so we are currently isolating, but its not til May 23rd so I may yet be able to cancel that.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 02/05/2020 16:36

I'm new to supermarket deliveries/Click & Collect, & I've been using a few different stores.

My favourite sub so far was a pack of 48 snacks, which I got in place of 24 identical snacks at no extra charge. The worst moment was when there was apparently no fresh veg in the entire store. Thanks for that one.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/05/2020 16:38

No, they come from rivers, they are freshwater
How do they get to the Bahamas then? On a cruise? Grin

BarbaraofSeville · 02/05/2020 16:59

Well I scuba dive in the sea and see lots of eels, that's all I know.

I've never eaten them because I don't think the opportunity has ever presented itself and I'm not sure they look appetising but I'd be willing to give it a try.

ticktackted · 02/05/2020 17:02

@PotholeParadise I appreciated them nevertheless Grin

BrightYellowDaffodil · 02/05/2020 17:10

I ordered a range of cakes once for a party. They substituted almost all of them so I ended up with 14 carrot cakes. I could see where they were coming from but still...

You do realise that drinking wine will lower your immunity? And that the orders are meant for vulnerable customers...

Its becoming the norm, isn’t it? No matter how tenuously linked a thread is to Covid-19, a dementor will be along sooner or later to piss on everyone’s chips and @hemuli hasn’t disappointed ♟

bookmum08 · 02/05/2020 17:11

I have never done an online supermarket shop so I don't really know how it works but what actually happens if you don't want the replacement goods? Do you have to pay for it? If you give it back to the driver will it get returned to the shop? Obviously fresh/frozen stock can't be - I assume that will get chucked in the bin? But what about tins of cat food replaced with (for example) with tins of baked beans? Will they be physically put back into the stock in store?
It sounds like such a very time consuming and not very economical way for supermarkets to run themselves.

Redyellowpink · 02/05/2020 17:12

Saw on twitter someone was substituted a whole octopus for tinned tomatoes

40somethingJBJ · 02/05/2020 17:18

I ordered a pack of activia fruit yoghurts for my dad last week and they substituted them with a pack of banana mousse things. He wasn’t impressed!

JacobReesMogadishu · 02/05/2020 17:20

Freshwater and seawater eels are different species. In Europe we tend to eat only freshwater eels. In Asia they eat both.

DesignedForLife · 02/05/2020 17:24

I ordered a 100g piece of ginger from Asda, and go 8 40g pieces. That was weird.

Oh my!

Did you have to share it with partner?

Fcukthisshit · 02/05/2020 17:29

I got a plastic tablecloth instead of the set of placemats that I’d ordered. Had a bit of a laugh with the delivery driver about it and he told me that they regularly substitute avocado with rice cakes??

Nat6999 · 02/05/2020 17:33

I ordered calamari & got onion rings, didn't go down well as I had been tasting calamari for days before.

swampytiggaa · 02/05/2020 17:37

Can I just say I don’t judge the shopping I do... I often think people are doing lockdown better than me with the amount of alcohol and snacks we are selling and I decide which delivery is best for a party but that’s it!

We are a new team. I’m one of 3 middle aged ladies working with a gaggle of 18 year olds and having a fantastic time 🙂 really hope they continue with home delivery from our store 🙂

JustStayHome · 02/05/2020 17:37

I ordered ear wax drops and got eye drops...

I would love to ask the picker, why!?

Changeofname79 · 02/05/2020 17:52

@Villageidiots that's true pickers do have strict criteria (my DH is one at the moment) however we have received some crazy subs in the past, no way were the pickers going by the rules.

I can't remember most of them but sometimes they are not even linked to the original item, it's just bizarre. One I do remember is that I ordered veggie bacon once and received bacon sprinkles.

Hagisonthehill · 02/05/2020 18:01

Luckily my vunerable 81 yr old mum got all 4 bottles of her wine.Shes hedging her bets!
