I caveat by saying I don't know if he will or not!!!

Given the current situation, I think his paternity leave needs to wait

The baby was born today, by the way. This isn't an abstract musing.

YABU. He needs to be there for his wife and child. There are people qualified to step in and cover for him.

crispysausagerolls · 29/04/2020 13:27

He has said he is delaying it.

My main shock is that Carrie was so pregnant in March - she had the flattest stomach of all time. My baby isn’t due for another 2 months and in March my stomach was like a beach ball!

StCharlotte · 29/04/2020 13:30

I bet his eyes rolled out of his head when she told him she was in labour.

Given we've "coped" without him, he might as well take it.

Was the baby very early or have I imagined that?

InfiniteSheldon · 29/04/2020 13:30

No how fucking dare he nearly die get back to work miss Prime Ministers Questions attending the birth of his child and then voluntarily forego Paternity Leave. The bastard.

heartsonacake · 29/04/2020 13:31

YABVU. There are people to cover him; he has a right to paternity leave and he should take it to put his family first.

NotMyNigel · 29/04/2020 13:31

He needs to be there for his wife and child

I assume this is a joke, because he doesn't apparently have much to do with his first 5 children.

And she’s not his wife, he only just divorced his wife a few weeks ago.

Elieza · 29/04/2020 13:32

He’s entitled to it so he should take it. He can’t help when the baby comes if it’s inconvenient timing or not!

Of course he should be at work, there is a crisis ongoing and we need a strong leader who is fully focussed on the pandemic and the government response.
Carrie will just have to suck it up

HandfulofDust · 29/04/2020 13:33

Well if he was actually any use then he clearly shouldn't take paternity eave in a national crisis. Prime minister is an exceptional job and we're living in exceptional times. That said he's fairly useless so he might as well.

x2boys · 29/04/2020 13:33

It's already been said on BBC news he's delaying it.....

ofwarren · 29/04/2020 13:34

It's in the news today that he's delaying it.

x2boys · 29/04/2020 13:35

Clearly posters are not watching the news🙄

Crunchymum · 29/04/2020 13:35

I am thinking more pandemic than his past history (as to why I think he should delay PL) but it is a fair point. Dad of he year he ain't !

OP posts:
Collision · 29/04/2020 13:35

Give him a break

Brexit
Pandemic
Catches pandemic
intensive care
Baby

He’s probably exhausted

Crunchymum · 29/04/2020 13:35

Didn't see that he was delaying it. Finally something I agree with Bojo about!!

I am all for fathers being a huge part of the early days, it is so precious and bonding, but given the situation the country is facing, and unfortunately he has already had so much time off due to Covid. I do think he needs to delay paternity leave without question. The country is in major crisis, he is the PM, he needs to now lead from the front.
Ten of millions of lives rest on his decisions, and his decisions alone and we can not continue living in limbo.

So absolutely no to paternity leave now, he should make it clear this will be something he does with Carrie once the country is back on an even keel.

Womencanlift · 29/04/2020 13:38

I do think she was early or at least it was a surprise. I don’t think he would have returned to go off again if he knew the baby would come imminently. Also she said she was due early summer - end of April is not early summer (although they could have lied about due date of course).

Given that there could be a chance that the baby will be in hospital for a while if he was early, having a few days to be with the baby is to be expected. As pp said we have not had him for the last few weeks so there are others that can step in

ASandwichNamedKevin · 29/04/2020 13:38

@SkelingtonArgument 'Carrie will just have to suck it up' is such an unpleasant sentiment towards someone who has given birth today. Some people have an easy birth experience, some don't, and it's none of our business what hers was like but if she needs him then she needs him. It's not like people have their usual support networks available.

I do think he will juggle a bit of leave and work, I don't imagine he would be completely switched off from this awful crisis but I wouldn't blame him for taking some time with his new son.
If he hasn't been hands on before maybe he's realised what he's missed.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 29/04/2020 13:38

YABU, he’s not in sole charge of the country. It won’t grind to a halt without him at the wheel.

Carrie must have been through such a stressful time to see him so ill, to contract the virus herself and now to have the baby early she needs the support of her partner, it’s just a shame he’s the PM but some things are more important.

Biscuit0110 · 29/04/2020 13:39

collision if you take on the job as PM you have to expect not to have any kind of personal life until the job has come to an end, he would have known that when he agreed to run for Prime Minister. The job of PM is not a part time fluffy job, it is full on every minute of the day. I feel for him having been through so much, but the baby arriving is the very least of our problems to be honest!!!!!

Devlesko · 29/04/2020 13:39

It's highly unlikely, half of London never get to see their PM daddy, don't think this one will be any different.
He really isn't father potential, maybe as well if he'd raise the child with the same lack of morals he has.
They're a bit toff trailer trash.

opticaldelusion · 29/04/2020 13:39

Considering he's useless I don't see what difference it makes.

x2boys · 29/04/2020 13:40

He has Biscuit it's been on the news!
