I caveat by saying I don't know if he will or not!!!

Given the current situation, I think his paternity leave needs to wait

I think you are right Foxglade. No wonder though...

loobyloo1234 · 29/04/2020 14:17

Many people - army, police, fire service etc cannot take immediate paternity leave. He should be no different

Easilyanxious · 29/04/2020 14:18

Well he's not taking it straight away so you can all calm down

Babyroobs · 29/04/2020 14:20

Maybe part time paternity leave. I'm sure she can buy in plenty of support for a few days of the week if he worked part time. I don't think he should be completely away from the job at the current time.

Giespeace · 29/04/2020 14:21

Considering he should probably still have been convalescing anyway, and it’s not as if Carrie will be able to turn to family and friends for support for obvious reasons, I’d say he’s BVU to delay taking leave.

papiermaches · 29/04/2020 14:21

We’re in the middle of a pandemic, he’s the PM and he’s already been home weeks. Plus he appears to have had f- all input into the testing of his other five ‘official’ kids plus the one From an affair that he won’t even publicly admit to.
So no, he shouldnt bugger off again because he’s ‘entitled’ to it.
Give it a few years and he’ll be on a new girlfriend anyway.

LagunaBubbles · 29/04/2020 14:22

course he should be at work, there is a crisis ongoing and we need a strong leader who is fully focussed on the pandemic and the government response

Sadly weve got Boris.

Brefugee · 29/04/2020 14:23

I'm a bit 'meh' about it. I deffo think he should have paternity leave at some point, on the other hand he's an absent father to the rest of his kids so why should this one be different? Agree that the mum deserves help though, but I'm assuming she can have all the help she needs since they're not living in a tiny housing association flat and on the breadline.

It is also not beyond the bounds of possiblity that they, like many people here, apparently, were a little economical with the truth about the due date.

If it is a preemie though i hope that mum and baby come out of this well and healthy. Johnson can do one as far as I'm concerned. Worst PM I've ever seen.

Andromeida59 · 29/04/2020 14:24

She had symptoms but was not tested. I am quite amazed how quickly both of them have recovered. I had Covid19 and it absolutely floored me for 6 weeks.

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/04/2020 14:24

I loved the barely veiled dig on the BBC News site "Mr Johnson is known to have fathered 5 other children" :o

MrSheenandMe · 29/04/2020 14:30

Some really nasy personal comments on here. By all means discuss politics but this is vile. It says more about the poster than the subject however.

Mayorquimby2 · 29/04/2020 14:31

He's pretty good at taking his leave where paternity is concerned

startrek90 · 29/04/2020 14:31

Couldn't give a stuff about Johnson but I hope for the Babys sake that they are OK. My son was born that premature and both he and I were really poorly for quite a while. I hope mum is OK and the sudden early delivery has nothing to do with coronavirus. Not that I particularly rate her but that innocent child needs someone in their life....

pigsDOfly · 29/04/2020 14:32

Surely the whole point of paternity leave is for the father of the baby to support the new mother.

I imagine the maternity nurse is already installed so I doubt she's lacking support.

Can't imagine Boris Johnson up to his elbows in nappy changing and night feeds somehow.

slartibarti · 29/04/2020 14:34

Good news OP you must be so relieved Smile

Pineapple1 · 29/04/2020 14:34

I think those woman who think it's fine for him to not have his legally entitled 2 weeks should then not have their legally entitled maternity

lynsey91 · 29/04/2020 14:35

No of course he should not take paternity leave and, if it's true that he has said he is going to delay it, then good.

He is our Prime Minister for goodness sake. This country is facing one of the worst times in our history and we need someone to lead us. Unfortunately we are stuck with Boris but at least he should try and pretend he knows what he is doing

MrsNettle · 29/04/2020 14:36

I know that he is delaying it but he might as well take it. We wouldn't notice anyway 🤷

Midlifebaby · 29/04/2020 14:37

If he was a woman should he forgo maternity leave? FFS, we (women) want and deserve equality and posts like this make my blood boil. There are already too few paternity rights, and that inequality does not help women one bit.

UnderTheIroningBoard · 29/04/2020 14:37

Even the PM is not indispensable- we've had people deputising for him for a few weeks.
Anyway it's not really relevant, as he has said he's going to be delaying it.
Hope mother and baby are doing well.

crispysausagerolls · 29/04/2020 14:38

@Foxglade

Ok but 6 months in March - pictured here - she looks incredible and very slim!

I thought how many months then was just speculation anyway.

Hope baby is ok!

for thinking Bojo shouldn't take paternity leave
merrymouse · 29/04/2020 14:40

No - but then I don't think it was ever seriously suggested that he would.

It's not as though he will be travelling far from home.

FliesandPies · 29/04/2020 14:44

Bazinga! Grin

FliesandPies · 29/04/2020 14:49

When the pregnancy was announced they said baby would be due 'early Summer' so must be prem. Perhaps is was a c-section if the baby wasn't thriving due to her having CV?

Convenient timing for Bozo either way, yet another reason for people to go soft on all his failings and transgressions.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/04/2020 14:49

there is a crisis ongoing and we need a strong leader who is fully focussed on the pandemic and the government response.

Where can we get one of those?
