Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

The Spanish flu was frightening. It mutated and then came back way worse than the first affection ALL ages.

Frankola · 25/04/2020 20:52

This isnt about what people WANT though is it?

neveradullmoment99 · 25/04/2020 20:52

affecting

Figmentofmyimagination · 25/04/2020 20:53

Realistically the country cannot afford to fund furloughed wages at 80% or £2,500 plus employers NI and pensions auto-enrolment - with no qualifying criteria apart from running online paye and having a uk bank account - beyond the end of June, or else we risk ending up like Venezuela. The government will know this.

PrincessAnnaOfArundale · 25/04/2020 20:53

I'm kind of thriving in lockdown. The anxiety throughout march as this was building and I was still at work with the public was just awful. I am much happier having the kids at home. We still get to go on a walk some days. The weather has been amazing. I'm so sad for the deaths but on a personal level I'm loving it and fully support further lockdown if it keeps people safe.

catx1606 · 25/04/2020 20:53

I would support it. The numbers need to decrease before restrictions are lifted.

What's funny is how pretty much everyone was demanding a total lockdown like china and the government said that if we did that, people wouldn't be able to sustain it and were mocked for not doing it yet here people are saying that they won't cope if we are kept in lockdown for more than a few more weeks.

For the 'no' supporters. This (rapidly growing) Facebook group may interest you:

“ The more that ignore the lock down the longer it will continue and more will die.”

This makes no sense at all

Inkpaperstars · 25/04/2020 20:55

No logical answer to your question can be given, unless people think the lockdown is just for kicks with no particular aim.

It needs qualifying. What is the R value at the end of this lockdown period? What other measures like testing are in place? Without further information like that you cannot know what the decision you are taking means.

If people don't realise that, it explains a lot.

lamplamplamo · 25/04/2020 20:55

Work = taxes = public sector spends

It is extraordinary how many people don’t seem to understand this.

Only simply though it doesn't quite work like a house hold budgetHmm

Chillicheese123 · 25/04/2020 20:56

@PrincessAnnaOfArundale you must be very financially secure to be able to fully enjoy it though ?

DominaShantotto · 25/04/2020 20:57

Not in the current situation with government stonewalling anyone who wants any indication of how we're going to come out of lockdown and telling us we're too dumb to handle any discussion of that. Nope.

Not with Dominic Kill the Weak sitting on Sage - nope.

Not without clear, open and honest dialogue with people and less of this treating us like we're naughty 6th formers needing to be managed and controlled, and not without clear guidance publicised to ALL - police and public alike about what IS and ISN'T allowed.

Not this existence of people making shit up as they go along and rules being inconsistent and us not trusted with information.

XingMing · 25/04/2020 20:57

Why do you need to mention class viviennemary? Where does class enter the discussion? Whoever went to that match just went to see the game, live, because they could afford the ticket and the air fare. It isn't about class.

SoupDragon · 25/04/2020 20:59

treating us like we're naughty 6th formers

TBH, lots of people have been behaving like naughty 6th formers.

namechangenumber2 · 25/04/2020 20:59

Of course I'll support it if it's needed, I would like to think we can look to start coming out of lockdown soon

DominaShantotto · 25/04/2020 21:00

And lots of us aren't

FabulouslyFab · 25/04/2020 21:02

As much as I want to hug my grandchildren and children, if I boycott a further lockdown there’s no guarantee that they would as well.

helpfulperson · 25/04/2020 21:03

The Scottish Government have produced a really good document 'framework for decision making'. It doesn't give any information on what the lifting of lock down will look like but it lays out very clearly the principles that will be used to make the decisions as we move forward. It also makes the point that they may try something and it wont work so they will need to change tack.

Peppafrig · 25/04/2020 21:04

Yes I would support it .

LaurieMarlow · 25/04/2020 21:04

Only simply though it doesn't quite work like a house hold budget

Who said it did? Confused

Unless you haven’t noticed, we’re already borrowing unprecedented amounts of money.

emmcan · 25/04/2020 21:05

Can't be done.
Nowhere near enough police to enforce current restrictions.

JustinMyJustin · 25/04/2020 21:06

Restrictions need to start being lifted after this lock down period ends. There is already more traffic on the roads where I live. People will only take so much.

TotorosFurryBehind · 25/04/2020 21:06

No, I would support a further lockdown.

BlueCookieMonster · 25/04/2020 21:07

No, I think they need to start phasing it out soon, but this is my unqualified personal opinion.

olivehater · 25/04/2020 21:07

Cancer treatments will still be delayed lockdown or no lockdown as long as the hospitals continue to be filled with coronavirus patients. I don’t no why people think the hospitals will be back to normal as soon as the lockdown ends. They won’t be back to normal for a good while.
I think the country should have been locked down in stages with London first. Then cities and finally more rural areas as and when necessary. Now people are already tiring of lockdown in places that have no herd immunity as there are so few cases there yet. It was poo poohed because they wanted to feel united as a country. Yeah let’s just destroy the economy so we can feel united.
