To ask whether you would support a further lockdown?

Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

No I wouldn’t. Where I live, my county has a population of 800k and had 680 cases - so a percentage ratio of approx 0.08%.

I fully understand the wider impact in other more densely populated areas but where we are, it’s hard to see the justification for it when it’s going to lead to more deaths as people are scared to go to hospital, delayed treatment for cancer, increased risk of MH or domestic abuse etc. Not to mention plunging the world into a recession which could take decades to recover. I think for my region the lasting effects will be much worse than the virus itself. Especially if we don’t know a provisional exit strategy.

I think that they should start reopening businesses but adhere to social distancing - the supermarkets have proved it works with a one in one out policy so other shops such as garden centres should be able to replicate this.

But most importantly I’m fed up of every waking thought being consumed by it. I can’t avoid it on the news, on social media, I can’t watch my favourite programmes because filming has been impacted, you can’t miss the adverts on the tv or radio. I would just like to have a few hours without being reminded of this clusterfuck!

RozHuntleysStump · 25/04/2020 17:55

No, I agree with a pp that we need to start to live with this virus now.

missfliss · 25/04/2020 17:56

no.

Thedogshow · 25/04/2020 17:56

No I wouldn’t. I don’t think it will be possible to enforce it for much longer, so it would be unrealistic to extend it further.

Sennetti · 25/04/2020 17:57

Yes I’d support it

Too many dying and too many new cases

If it decreases drastically then maybe relax if a bit

heidihigh · 25/04/2020 17:57

Honestly, no. I agree some restrictions will need to be in place for a long time, however already we are seeing people doing as they please because they have tired of the lockdown. I must admit, I think I have reached my breaking point with it today. I will continue abiding by the rules until the next review, but I can't honestly say I can do this for much longer, and by the sounds of it, other people are feeling the same. There will come a point where people's selfishness (me included) will override their desire to do good by everyone else.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 25/04/2020 17:57

No.

It won’t make any difference to me as my life won’t get back to any sort of normality until there is a vaccine due to my multiple health problems .

bridgetreilly · 25/04/2020 17:58

I think we will get a gradual easing of some restrictions, possibly with future periods of tighter lockdown again for a few weeks. I think that's what the government are planning and what makes best sense both for disease control and economic wellbeing. I don't think it will be all or nothing, though, and we won't suddenly get everything open and back to normal.

EmbarrassedUser · 25/04/2020 17:59

I would support one but it’s mainly for selfish reasons if I’m honest. Nothing financially has changed (apart from DH large payrise which we knew about) and our jobs can be done fine from home. We now spend between 5-10 hours less a week commuting plus save around £50 a month in petrol. I love laying on my garden swing seat at lunch time reading a book or on the internet. I’ve also lost 12lbs through not snacking. What’s not to like? 😂💖

copycopypaste · 25/04/2020 17:59

Yes I would.

SoupDragon · 25/04/2020 18:00

If it was absolutely the best thing for society as a whole, yes. It would be difficult but I'd do it.

I can't vote as I've turned it of.

Springcatkin · 25/04/2020 18:00

No, I want my life back. Maybe keep pubs and clubs and large sporting events off limits for longer but please let's get back to some semblance of normality. The NHS is coping fine, the extra ventilators are not needed and the Nightingale hospitals are empty.
There is no point in risking more damage to the economy and more hardship for those that cannot work.
Do it gradually, starting with smaller shops and not malls but do it!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2020 18:00

I'd support it for, say, a further 3 weeks but after that we really need to get the economy moving again.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 25/04/2020 18:01

I think further restrictions should be imposed. More similar to Spain. A lot of people just aren't taking this seriously enough

Agree judging by the fact I’ve seen relatives visiting neighbours, joggers not keeping to the 2m distance etc.

DeeCeeCherry · 25/04/2020 18:01

No. How long for and what's to say you won't catch Covid if you stay home for 3 months anyway? You have to go outside sometime. I do not want days of my 1 life to pass via work, shopping, a little period of exercise then home to 4 walls sitting in fear. I already know people who are saying even if lockdown eases they won't be coming back out for ages. I couldn't do that + I want to see my siblings & friends.

Potplant · 25/04/2020 18:02

I hate it as much as anyone but I want all my family to be safe, so I’ll support whatever is necessary.

sonicshoegazes · 25/04/2020 18:02

I can't vote on the app BUT I would support another lockdown. It's a case of having to do what we need to isn't it?

I'm high risk and isolating as much as possible.

MarshaBradyo · 25/04/2020 18:02

I would keep it as it is but enable companies who cannot wfh to social distance and open.

So nearly the same but focussed towards economy starting up and end furlough when stated.

Chocolatecakefan · 25/04/2020 18:03

The other problem is that the review of the lockdown is due the day before the first May bank holiday - there’s no way they will release restrictions that weekend.

BlablablaStyle · 25/04/2020 18:04

No

midgebabe · 25/04/2020 18:05

Yes since I think it's more likely to enable us to avoid any more lockdowns in future , and to minimise rates

crispysausagerolls · 25/04/2020 18:05

No. People who are vulnerable should stay home. People who really want to should be allowed to stay home/WFH.

Everyone else needs to get on with their lives: the economy is in toilet already and this is not a sustainable way of life.

SpiritEssence · 25/04/2020 18:05

No but keep social distancing
