To ask whether you would support a further lockdown?

Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

I would HATE another look down but would support it if ultimately that's what is best for the health of our country and people who ate vulnerable. Really hoping it will all be over soon!

Brevityisthesoulofwit · 25/04/2020 17:42

I’d support it if it was needed but small restrictions could be lifted. Would love to go to my mum and dads

cacaca · 25/04/2020 17:44

It’s shit, but we need to do it for as long as is needed. We’re lucky that we still have the freedom we do, people in Spain were under much stricter lockdown. No exercise allowed.

EnlightenedOwl · 25/04/2020 17:44

no more lockdown. We need to get back to work while we can. Work on brink of redundancies now any more and there will be redundancies. Cannot support this any longer mentally can't stand it

Inferiorbeing · 25/04/2020 17:44

I would support it but would not be happy. But also I just waved DP off to his shift on the frontline of the NHS and desperately just want to see my parents.. I'll do it as long as necessary but I seriously hope its soon

Ghostlyglow · 25/04/2020 17:44

Obviously I don't like it but I think it needs to go on for longer. Where I live, lots of people already seem to be going out more anyway though. The amount of traffic and pedestrians increases daily.

Redglitter · 25/04/2020 17:45

I'd support it for longer. As pp said we have more freedom than other countries have. I dont think 6 weeks is long enough to be effective

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 25/04/2020 17:46

No I wouldn’t. The virus is here to stay, a vaccine is a long time away. We need to start working our way back to some normal kind of life

RoosterPie · 25/04/2020 17:46

I think some restrictions need to be lifted - the suggestion of seeing immediate family for example.

On the other hand if there were a clear and credible exit plan which required a lengthier lockdown, then I’d support it, but at the moment without a plan I don’t.

Not self interest as I’m pregnant and have to isolate anyway!

dancemom · 25/04/2020 17:47

On the app so can't vote but no!
The virus isn't going anywhere, we need to learn to live with it and accept new practices like regular hand washing, distancing in crowded places etc

Boom45 · 25/04/2020 17:48

Thing is, if there were any sort of plan, any sort of communication about how the ending of lock down is going to be handled and what sort of stages we can expect, I'd find the extension of lockdown much easier. At the moment there is zero transparency and zero communication about what we might expect next which makes any extension of lockdown seem much more daunting than if I new the efforts I was making and poverty and hardship people were facing (to say nothing of how much I miss people I didnt give birth to) seem more like it was worth while and part of an actual strategy

mbosnz · 25/04/2020 17:48

I will if the numbers are still going the wrong way. It's not just about us individually, it's about those we could unwittingly negatively impact.

lola777 · 25/04/2020 17:48

I agree with lifting some restrictions, obviously not all. I also think people getting bored is a bit of a danger. I think the government will be counting on people being less compliant as it goes along.

OP posts:
Annamaria14 · 25/04/2020 17:49

Yes we were lucky. People in Spain were not even allowed to go to the park

BelfryBat · 25/04/2020 17:49

The options aren't yes or no, they are YABU and YANBU!

I support a further lockdown and that's although I'm out of my mind with boredom because I think we need to get this under control once and for all. That means waiting until there are enough tests available to test and trace contacts of people who are ill.

Londonmummy66 · 25/04/2020 17:50

I don't get the voting but I really think that the schools need to go back asap at least for years 10 and 12.

Lefkosia · 25/04/2020 17:51

I think further restrictions should be imposed. More similar to Spain. A lot of people just aren't taking this seriously enough

saraclara · 25/04/2020 17:51

If it has to be, it has to be. But I'd really appreciate it if it was lifted just enough to be able to visit immediate family. I miss my kids and my granddaughter terribly.

Handiies · 25/04/2020 17:52

Absolutely not.

We need to follow Sweden. A %6 drop in GDP will kill more than letting the virus run wild and some are saying a 30% DROP FOR YHIS YEAR!

Parky04 · 25/04/2020 17:52

No. As previous poster said we have to learn to live with this virus. If people don't want to leave their homes then that is up to them. We have to get back to work. There will be a shed load of redundancies and I will probably be one of them.

Ponoka7 · 25/04/2020 17:53

We have to learn to live with this virus.

People are going without medical care, treatment pathways and are dying. That point was made today by a Cancer consultant, who also is in tune with what's happening in cardiac care.

People are suffering from cancelled none life threatening surgery.

I have to travel on public transport and we need more buses. Some of the items for delivery needs to be made available again.

So why i don't mind restrictions, it shouldn't continue at this level.

Obviously we need social distancing and no opening of pubs etc. But if the football starts up again, which the Premier league is pushing for, it makes a mockery of us staying in. There's a lot of staff and travel staff involved in all that movement.

sirfredfredgeorge · 25/04/2020 17:53

If the existing lockdown has been effective at preventing transmission, then there are very few cases left in the community, and therefore very few future admissions into hospital for covid-19. So continuing with the lockdown which kills people for other reasons (regular cancer and other treatments/operations, people delaying/unwilling to seek treatment for other things etc.).

That is even before you get the further negative effects of lockdown which take even longer to kill.

Of course the real problem is the incompetence which has led to there not being any testing or contact tracers organised to ensure that any subsequent cases are identified quickly and their contacts traced to ensure they isolate. Without that a relaxation won't likely be possible, which means that the government incompetence as well as killing extra via late lockdown, now also kills other non-covid people via late relaxation.

And that is even before you worry about financial impacts.

southeastdweller · 25/04/2020 17:53

No, to hell with another one. I support social distancing for months but the costs for us all that a third lockdown will bring are too great.

sanityisamyth · 25/04/2020 17:54

Yes if that was what the scientific advisors thought was the best way forward.

I'm not finding lockdown hard. I have no friends nearby or family that ever visit or call so it's not much different to normal really.

Molliemoo10 · 25/04/2020 17:54

This won't be a popular opinion but I think we should be in lockdown until a vaccine is available or at least a test to see if you might have had it already/be immune.
