To ask whether you would support a further lockdown?

lola777 · 25/04/2020 17:40

Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

So,if people should be free to choose whether they’re prepared to be infected, should the NHS be at liberty to choose not to treat them as they deliberately didn’t consider the impact when merrily going here there and everywhere?

Surely if you say you’ll go where you want and do what you want you don’t actually care if you catch coronavirus. And even if you don’t die it’s apparently awful and people have been taken out of action for weeks.

MinkowskisButterfly · 25/04/2020 18:40

Yes I would support it.

Your voting doesn't make sense - it isn't easy or no but YABU or YANBU so not using voting.

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 18:40

“ I fail to see how you can rebel against it.”

Protests will happen later but I do think they will happen.

I fail to see how you can rebel against it

By not following the guidelines of lockdown I.e. visiting friends and family

Devlesko · 25/04/2020 18:43

Because I like staying in, don't like people much, and prefer not to catch the virus. Nothing says we all have to catch it, from the start BJ said "we are aiming for 80% to catch the virus" I'd like to be one of the 20% so will be satying put, until the bitter end.
Plus, I want to finish writing my book. Grin

JustStayHome · 25/04/2020 18:44

People are not taking it seriously enough

If all numbers are included, over 1200 people are dying a day!!!!!!!!!

Stronger restrictions
Stronger lockdown

And people who don't listen, like the ones sitting in parks, having bbq's with friends, Meeting up with people, they shouldn't be fined.
They should be made to sign a weaver that says
"I agree, through my own stupidity, i will not put more pressure on the NHS by going to the hospital WHEN i catch covid-19"

See how many people stop going out then

Umnoway · 25/04/2020 18:45

I’m pregnant and just about in the third trimester so understandably probably more terrified than the average person but think people who would actively try to rebel against lockdown are idiots.

flirtygirl · 25/04/2020 18:45

Umnoway

No protest or riot from me but I will visit my mum again.

I would go have a park picnic which we normally do in the summer as I can't see how if everyone stays meters apart that it is any problem.

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 25/04/2020 18:46

I fail to see how you can rebel against it

Have you not seen the USA the last week or so?

Popc0rn · 25/04/2020 18:46

Can't believe the majority of the people are saying they wouldn't support another lockdown! Tell you what, let's tag everyone (like an ankle tag). If you want to carry on your life as normal and go where you want and do what you want and put yourself at risk, then that's absolutely fine. But you shouldn't be entitled to NHS care if you do get really sick from covid. I'm not risking my life at work for selfish idiots who can't put up with a few months of inconvenience.

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 18:46

I agree, through my own stupidity, i will not put more pressure on the NHS by going to the hospital WHEN i catch covid-19

So do you also think that smokers, alcoholics and the obese should not receive medical treatment?

CeibaTree · 25/04/2020 18:47

I wouldn't support another lockdown (I know the government don't care what I think though!). The 'cure' of the lockdown is going to be worse than the disease in terms of the economy and disruption of people's lives. There are around 67 million people in the UK and 20,000 have died which is an awful awful tragedy for the deceased's families of course but this figure represents 0.02 of the population if I've got my maths right.

edwinbear · 25/04/2020 18:47

I’m curious, as I posted previously, what are those saying they won’t support a further lockdown planning on doing? Are you going to protest or riot? I fail to see how you can rebel against it

I will be organising play dates with DC’s friends, seeing DP and arranging to have friends over for drinks/dinner.

Umnoway · 25/04/2020 18:47

Have you not seen the USA the last week or so?

Yup and the USA has the highest death toll in the world so not really an example to live by.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 25/04/2020 18:47

No, as long as there is capacity in the NHS to treat everyone who needs critical care (covid and non covid)
The minute we have people lying on the floor of A and E due to lack of beds/doctors then back into lockdown we go!

I don't want the younger generation to suffer and that is exactly why we have to keep lockdown going for a big longer now

Because the damage to the economy will be proportional to the total number of weeks in lockdown over the year

So to minimise damage to the economy and damage to everyone's lives , then we need to spend the absolute min8mum time in lockdown until vaccine and or treatment is available

And the only way to do that is not go into a second lockdown a few weeks after this one

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 18:48

I'm not risking my life at work for selfish idiots who can't put up with a few months of inconvenience.

It's not a few months of inconvenience though, is it. It is lives. I work on a suicide hotline in the evenings and our calls are absolutely out of the window in frequency, we get so many. It is the abused women and children. It is the families who have no money to feed themselves.

MarshaBradyo · 25/04/2020 18:48

People won’t riot or protest they’ll just go to B&Q twice in a day (we are a lazy bunch mostly).

More seriously, those who will visit their parents aren’t you worried about their higher risk due to age?

Mummyshark2019 · 25/04/2020 18:48

We have no say in the matter so why ask if we would support it. We just have to do as we are told.

mumwon · 25/04/2020 18:48

as pp said I think we will have another outbreak over winter which may well coincide with the flu outbreak - I hope to goodness its not a bad year for flu & that people will accept flu vaccinations & medication for dc & please, please! will people stop with the antivax & get their dc vaccinated for childhood diseases or we will have a catastrophe - MMR is safe for all but a very few & he alternative of having your dc sick & than more vulnerable to corona doesn't bear thinking of

rookiemere · 25/04/2020 18:49

I wouldn't support another burst of where are currently on lockdown, but I don't think it's a binary in or out of lockdown. I support a gradual loosening up - which is happening already through opening of more stores and takeaways- and careful monitoring of the results before moving on to a further stage

If they aren't prepared to loosen restrictions then they need to work out a way urgently to use the capacity in the NHS to reschedule cancelled operations

Frompcat · 25/04/2020 18:49

More seriously, those who will visit their parents aren’t you worried about their higher risk due to age?

My mum is 53, slim and with no underlying conditions. She would rather take her chances with the virus than not see me or her grandson for a year.

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 25/04/2020 18:49

Personally I would not have a problem with more lockdown. DH and I's jobs are lockdown compatible (although DH's job isn't exactly completely secure right now), we are all getting on OK, we have a lovely house with a big garden and loads of places nearby to go on big mostly isolated walks.

However, I am really concerned for the economy if we don't get back up and running soon. And also for all the people who are experiencing DV, have children with SEN, who live in flats with no gardens, who have no income.

Whatever is happening on a personal level, as a country we simply cannot continue like this for much longer.
