To ask whether you would support a further lockdown?

lola777 · 25/04/2020 17:40

Posting here simply as I don't know if voting can be enabled outside AIBU.

Vote yes- You would support further lockdown of this extent
Vote no- You would not support a lockdown of this extent after the current lockdown period

Personally, I would be happy for restrictions to slowly be lifted after this. Amongst my friends, I feel I am in the majority.

No, I wouldn’t support it and I will personally, probably start not complying. I need some social interaction as do DC. I would start visiting a small handful of friends and family who I know have been isolating and aren’t exposed to vulnerable people.

It’s getting to the point where the cure is doing more damage than the disease. It would be far better to lift some restrictions, slowly and give people a little more freedom than to keep restrictions as they are and have everyone simply say ‘fuck it’ and ignore everything.

JacobReesMogadishu · 25/04/2020 18:18

I’d adhere to it if it was deemed necessary but am worried sick about the economy.

Polkadotties · 25/04/2020 18:18

No, and definitely not until a vaccine is found, which is a ridiculous idea. What if there isn’t a vaccine?! We have to learn to live with CV, those who vulnerable need to shield and be supported.
I think ways of working will be changed forever. Before CV, my office were very anti working from home. We have proven that we can wfh effectively and service levels are the same. I work for a council and believe our building will now be sold

BlackeyedSusan · 25/04/2020 18:19

I would support another lock down too.

Mychitchatdays · 25/04/2020 18:20

No, I actually think people have lost sight of why there was a lock down.

Glittertwins · 25/04/2020 18:20

No, totally against further imposition as is my mum who is most at risk. She is capable managing her own condition and her life and as she says, she's had to live with this for the past 10 years and will have to forever more but others should not have to.

Hercwasonaroll · 25/04/2020 18:20

No. I want to see family, I'm going slightly bonkers with a 3yo and 4 month old.

Where is the evidence we need to?

I think people have had enough.

Lovesgood · 25/04/2020 18:21

Some people on here are mental. First they screech that the government isnt doing enough and wants to kill us all by not shutting us into our houses and now they want this lockdown to end as soon as possible!? Make up your bloody minds! It will last as long as they seem fit, but of course people will be moaning either way.

AwkwardSquad · 25/04/2020 18:21

No.

flirtygirl · 25/04/2020 18:22

I think we should continue social distances but things need to reopen. All shops can be open just like supermarkets just let less people in.

Business should reopen immediately, as should schools and nurseries. If people didn't want to send their kids then that is their choice.

Restaurants could be open with less people in at any one time and wide spaces inbetween tables. Good cleaning in between people.

No one would be forced to go to these places if they wanted to stay at home. But they should be open if wanting/needing to open and if they have staff who would work.

There is no reason beaches and sun bathing in parks is not allowed, just rule that there needs to be 4 metres in between people in this scenario and then let people get on with it.

People are dying from non covid related issues in the thousands, a newspaper reported yesterday that compared to an average of the last few years of one week in April, there has been 6000 extra deaths in that one week, less than half attributed to covid 19, so that is 3000 extra deaths than normal. People are not getting treated for strokes, heart attacks, they are literally staying at home and dying. The NHS have said today to people, to please go to the hospital and gp if needed.

We don't know how many extra people have committed suicide or died from their treatment plans being put on hold. We do know that people have committed suicide including children and teenagers.

I'm a home bod who doesn't go out everyday normally but I'm sick of it already so I can't imagine what active, social people are going through.

I would not support a longer lock down. And I'm personally giving myself till 6th may and then I'm going to see my mum. That will be 7 weeks since I last saw her.

1forsorrow · 25/04/2020 18:22

I'd support it if we were treated like adults and there was some information. Just being told to do it because isn't reasonable.

Hannah021 · 25/04/2020 18:22

Im worried about my parents naturally, and my nhs sister who's also got breast cancer from a peek of patients.

She already deals with confirmed cases, and its just very stressful.

Lockdown or not, i really dont know, i feel like the virus spreading is inevitable, i just hope they secure PPE for them, cuz its taking the mick now

MarshaBradyo · 25/04/2020 18:23

Lovesgood yep

ChaBishkoot · 25/04/2020 18:23

Yes I would.

OatcakeCravings · 25/04/2020 18:23

No, we can’t stay under lockdown indefinitely it’s ridiculous!

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 25/04/2020 18:24

No, but I do agree with socially distancing and masks in public for the foreseeable future.

AMomHasNoName · 25/04/2020 18:24

No I wouldn't either

SabineSchmetterling · 25/04/2020 18:24

If the scientists think an extension is needed then I’ll support it. I do miss social interaction but I’m not finding lockdown too tough. If another few weeks is needed to avoid having to lockdown again relatively soon then so be it. If you ease lockdown when the number of active cases is still relatively high then tracking and tracing isn’t practical and the R0 doesn’t have to be much higher than 1 before we end up with very large numbers of new cases very quickly. If we get the number of active cases lower then tracking and tracing could help keep the R0 down without needing another lockdown.

AlternativePerspective · 25/04/2020 18:26

I find it interesting that before we went into lockdown people were calling for the kinds of lockdowns which happened in China and upholding China and South Korea as examples of how it should be done.

And yet China was in lockdown for three months and people here are saying they’ll do what they want after six weeks? That doesn’t exactly follow the narrative that people wanted us to do what China did.

Incidentally,I find it odd that there hasn’t been any news out of China since they came out of lockdown. I wonder what their numbers are doing. In South Korea and Singapore things are bordering on out of control after they came out of lockdown.

It’s a difficult balance to strike. People saying they’ll do what they want and go where they want risk the restrictions being made more stringent. Indeed Wales have applied harsher restrictions now,so we’re not that far removed.

On the other hand, at some point people do need to resume their lives.I’m shielding so don’t see me coming out of lockdown until a vaccine is found...

Umnoway · 25/04/2020 18:27

When people say they won’t support another lockdown, what exactly does that mean? Are you planning on protesting or rioting? How can you not support a further lockdown if your work and most shops still remain closed, there’s not many ways to rebel really so it’s quite futile to say you won’t support scientific advice.

Of course I would support further lockdown if the scientists and medics think it’s necessary and realistically, so will everyone else.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 25/04/2020 18:29

Flirtygirl, how do you think schools and nurseries will manage to keep 2m apart between everyone? It would be almost impossible

Popc0rn · 25/04/2020 18:30

Yes. At least 20,000 people have died in the last 51 days, though the actual number of deaths is probably twice that as deaths in care homes and own homes aren't being counted. We've only been in "lockdown" 34 days, it's not enough to bring the initial curve down yet.

MarshaBradyo · 25/04/2020 18:30

Alternative yes I remember those threads and posts. Lots of why can’t we do what China did.

One thing I remember Chris Whitty saying when pushed for lock down is that people would tire of it quickly. Not wrong overall.

flirtygirl · 25/04/2020 18:31

AlternativePerspective

There is daily news out of China especially stats and nos etc.

Guardian corona virus live blog is one such source. An average day can be 4 or 5 news features out of China.

tinytemper66 · 25/04/2020 18:31

We need to get children back to school as soon as it is possible. I am a teacher and miss my classes and the routine.
