I don’t believe in ghosts but...

Hear me out here.

I do not believe in ghosts at all. But we moved recently into a Victorian house and DS’ room is above mine. Without fail, every night around this time 21.30-22.00, there is a very loud THUD from directly upstairs. As if DS has fallen out of bed. 10 seconds later the baby monitor switches on and he is sitting up (in bed - didn’t fall out), awake. Last night this happened at 1am.

It’s always 1-3 thuds which seem to wake him up. Once or twice it has happened and he hasn’t awoken and slept through. But usually...

WHAT IS THIS?!? Ghosty ghost?!

DH never hears it as he’s asleep or downstairs so it could also be me losing my mind. Very clear loud thud though...

There is no such thing as ghosts, so look for more earthly explanations.

Next doors heating coming on? Or using a tap? We can hear their pipes banging when they use the hot water.

My old house was haunted. Whenever my granddaughter stayed (from a few weeks old) in our bedroom the TV would turn on loudly waking her up! TV never turned on any other time. She was in travel cot away from TV ! Plus when I walked into other rooms the TV would come on, or lights would come. One night when I was away husband rang me at 1am as my hairdryer came on at same time as our TV bed turned on lol .

Sorry...why is it okay for your little one to stay in that room alone when you yourself don't want to. I would not have my child in a room alone which I myself wouldn't want to be in. Genuine question - not trying to be arsey.

Well rationally, you know there are no such things as ghosts ffs.

Think how ridiculous it sounds.

Watch a derren brown video about how the concepts of ghosts is bloody pathetic.

Nothing is haunting you apart from your overactive imagination

Next door..closing their window before bed, slamming a cupboard door, throwing something on the floor or even heavily chucking themself on the bed?... explain you are being bothered by what going on in your childs room, stress you arent complaining and ask if they know what the noise is, say it will reassure you immensely if you know but its not a problem. Its simple.

I don't understand why u can't go into the room at 9.15 with a low light and wait.
If you're too scared your husband could sit with you.
What's the big deal? It's not happening late so why not just go in and see? Easily solved.
It would be more of a pain at 2AM but I just don't know why u don't just go in and look. Especially since it happens at the same time. It's easy to go in and see what's happening

JustStayHome, a friend of mine had that app and when she played it back the next morning, there was the strong and distinctive sound of booted footsteps walking around her bedroom. I listened and it couldn't have been anything else.

Terrifying to think about the possibilities there.

My basement growing up terrified me. I always feel like someone was grabbing at me. One day my mom went to pick up my brother and I was home alone around 8 yo with a nasty cold. I suddenly heard yelling from the basement. A man's voice screaming "Help me!" over and over. I got so scared I ran next door in my nightgown with no boots out in the snow. I'll never forget the sound of his voice.

Have you got a cat?

Our pipes also bang very loudly

The house behind us also go to their outside bin about 11pm every night and slam the lid, took us a while to work out what it was

Are you sure the old lady died? She could be living in the walls, watching and waiting...

Report
nevertrustaninja · 23/04/2020 23:45

Who lives next door?
Possibilities include:
heating going on
water tank
window opening/closing
attic bedroom door being closed/opened
drawer or wardrobe being opened/closed and hitting the wall
Gamer becoming active - any teens there?

If ghosts really are active by the clock, then what happens when the clocks go back/forwards?

@73kittycat73 It was awful. My mom has always said she thinks my fever made me delusional. I remember the entire thing clearly, and she even admits my fever wasn't very high. I have no doubt it was real.

So the next morning, eager to hear myself snoring i played it back, and there was abit of snoring, etc, then this fucked up creepy voice, didn't make sense what it was saying. But was so freaked out by it

That voice was you. Dh talks in his sleep and sounds nothing like himself - and often quite creepy. Oh and it never makes sense.

I'm the type to investigate so I'd be sat outside the bedroom door waiting for the noise to get a sense of where it's coming from. If it's in his room you'd know about it then. And record it.

My central heating pipes make thudding sounds at the same time- even though it’s not when it’s going off/on. My money is on the kid banging the cot though.

Well the obvious would be to be up there ready for when it happens.

If it's the same time every night it must be the neighbours. Are they closing a room or wardrobe door? Drawers? That could be the several thumps. It is someone making a bed and lifting a mattress? A pull down bed?
Frankly that's much more likely than an old woman who has overcome the minor inconvenience of being dead and wants to make some noise between the hours of 9 and 9.30 pm BST.

When I was a kid my friend and I were messing about recording ourselves singing on a cassette tape. When we played it back, a man's voice could be heard speaking over us. But it wasn't like it cut from our recording to the man's voice... you could still hear us chatting in the background. Bloody terrified us!

Young friends in an old converted house were woken every night by thuds from above. Very loud definite thuds.
It turned out to be the neighbour lifting weights. Well, dropping them I suppose is what made the noise.

Eee well ok ( *turns light on lol). I believe it came from an occult object, which I had unwittingly brought into the home (which was quickly disposed of after that night thats for sure!). And it wasnt Casper the friendly ghost either. I dont think it was ever human though. Just a horrible dark, angry thing. You could feel the anger coming off it. I dont know how to explain that feeling lol..i guess it was sorta like when you are a kid and piss off a parent and they are just sitting there getting madder and madder at you and you could cut the tension in the room with a knife lol.

I always think it's odd when people say 'theres no such thing as ghosts'. I mean, I never gave it much thought before i saw one but, why wouldn't there be? People have been seeing them for thousands of years afterall.

Would be quite content to never see one again though! But I think stay away from the occult and you'll be fine. There can't be that many, of whatever they are, around.
