I don’t believe in ghosts but...

Hear me out here.

I do not believe in ghosts at all. But we moved recently into a Victorian house and DS’ room is above mine. Without fail, every night around this time 21.30-22.00, there is a very loud THUD from directly upstairs. As if DS has fallen out of bed. 10 seconds later the baby monitor switches on and he is sitting up (in bed - didn’t fall out), awake. Last night this happened at 1am.

It’s always 1-3 thuds which seem to wake him up. Once or twice it has happened and he hasn’t awoken and slept through. But usually...

WHAT IS THIS?!? Ghosty ghost?!

DH never hears it as he’s asleep or downstairs so it could also be me losing my mind. Very clear loud thud though...

Also I hadn't even mentioned it to my brother because I didn't want to sound mental but he still see her in the same place i did. Blonde lady wearing a white night dress thing. I don't even believe in god as it sounds too far fetched to me but I bloody kid you not about this.

I don't believe in ghosts (I say) but I did see a ghost in my house when I moved in. My mum see her, my brother see her. All on separate occasions. I dont see her anymore (she best not come back now). I say there must be a reasonable explanation for everything and if it does not make sense it's not true/real, but there was a ghost lady floating in my house.

Holy water? Get mass said in the house? Prayers to St Michael the defender? Might be slated on here for my beliefs but if it brings you peace..

I was having a terrible time with things happening in our very old cottage ( I won't go into detail but some very scary things) and literally couldn't sleep a wink. I'd even gone to stay at relatives and taken the kids because I was so scared. I felt very silly but got to the point I was so desperate i was willing to try anything. In the end I spoke to the local priest and he gave me a crucifix and told me to pray. I burnt sage in every corner of every room and opened all the windows. I found an old pot that had been there forever and got rid of that. I spoke out loud to whatever was there and told it it was safe to go and that we wanted to be left in peace. I don't know what worked but something did because things got a lot better after that.

Shit this is scary! I wouldn't have my ds back in that room until I had some answers.

What about addressing the "spirit"-
Something like "hey old lady ghost, I don't mind you being here is it makes you happy, but please you're scaring us and that's not good for either of us." Or whatever they recommend.

Ok.

Ok.

Ok I am absolutely noping out of my son’s bedroom. We have had a lot going on so just tabled this situation as “misc house noises” and moved on. Recordings didn’t show anything important etc. We did have a text from a neighbour 2/3 weeks ago asking what the hell was banging in The top of our house at 5am, when the three of us were Sound asleep in our bed (DS in with us), which was weird.

BUT

Last night, DS would not sleep. He was in our bed and wouldn’t sleep and kept asking for my milk/2 hours of this and I eventually realised I was the problem as I went to the loo and he was cuddled up happily falling asleep, and woke when I came back and continued

SO I went to his room to sleep and he nestled up with DH.

Since it was 1000 degrees I had the curtain open in his room to let the breeze in. There was a shadow of the sash window on his wardrobe. I became aware that it showed what looked like 2 arms swaying on the window. Tree branches, you say? Sure, I got up to have a look. No. Fucking. Trees. This is the 2nd floor - no trees even remotely nearby and nothing else I could possibly see to explain this.

I finally fell asleep. I had the absolutely most terrifying nightmare of all time involving the old lady ghost who died here. She was chasing me down the stairs. I woke up paralysed for several minutes then ran the fuck downstairs to our bed.

DH thinks I’m crazy.

I was a firm non believer in ghosts for ages but we moved to an old farmhouse in 2001. We knew there was history in that one of the servant girls had been murdered by her lover (not in the house though). Several things have happened...DH heard a girls voice in the kitchen when no one was in the house, son looked up from opening presents on Christmas Day and said ‘someone’s just walked through the front door’ (as in just appeared, walked to the bottom of the stairs and vanished), feeling that someone was watching you in the kids playroom (where the girls body was laid after her murder..). Keeping an open mind though

I’m agreeing with the people who’ve suggested rats. We had one a while back, it sounded like someone was bowling in our attic and loads of thumps. The dog used to sit and stare at the ceiling growling, then sporadically burst into crazy barking.
Managed to catch the rat, not heard anything since. Later that year I went into the attic to get the Christmas decorations down, I found most of my tree baubles in various corners. The rat must have been rolling them around which was the bowling sound we kept hearing.

Very interested to find out what the cause of this is. Do you mean that you both heard the noises and when you listebdd to the recording from the same time you heard them there as nothing on it?
