To want to go and give this absolute idiot a piece of my mind?

DH (keyworker) often takes the DC out for walks in the dark after work. DC prefer going with him than me as he plays games with them as they’re walking like hide and seek, skipping/jumping around, chasing, making animal noises etc, and they like going out in the dark just as backgroundGrin.

Anyway tonight they were walking down the main road and turned into a side road to cut back across to our house. Teen DS was walking ahead and didn’t notice they were going into the side road so carried on walking. DH bird called Hmm to him to get his attention and he walked back so DH and little DS decided to hide behind some bushes at the bottom of a small cul de sac round the corner so they could jump out at him. They were on the opposite side of some houses in the cul de sac and nowhere near gardens etc. Anyway within seconds a man threw open his front door of the house in front of them and shouted at DH and DS to ‘get out of it’ and get off his property or he’d set his dog on them! Cue massive ugly staffie like thing coming out of the front door towards them. DH explained what he was doing and said they weren’t on his property but the man kept on. DS was very scared and shaken by this point and worried about the dog so DH decided to just let it go as DC were there and came home with a very upset DS.

I’m absolutely furious that this man thought he could behave this way and want to knock on his door tomorrow and give him a piece of my mind about him threatening people with his dog. It’s only the next street up. There’s are lots of these little cul de sacs in our area, we live in one ourselves, and they are not the homeowner’s private property to dictate who stands near them!

I don't have a dog but other than that i'd have gone out and told your DH to bugger off as well.

Noise really carries at night, especially since it's so quiet at the moment. Your DH is an idiot (being a key worker does not preclude anyone from being an idiot and there was no need to include this piece of info really).

Have some thought for others.

Glitteryone · 22/04/2020 00:01

YABU

Don’t hide in peoples bushes.

And staffys are not ugly.

Katypyee · 22/04/2020 00:03

I am more annoyed with the fact you called a Staffie ugly tbh.

aupresdemonarbre · 22/04/2020 00:03

People need to work on their reading. The dh and ds were not in the man’s garden but on the other side of the road. You can’t just threaten people in your street with a dog attack! Atrocious.

Duck90 · 22/04/2020 00:03

Can’t believe how many people think it’s ok to set an aggressive dog on some who you think is hiding in some bushes

We don’t know it’s an aggressive dog! It ran out, at someone in the garden. A friendly one would have done the same.

The man was frightened, people will say things like that to protect themselves .

We don’t know if it’s ugly. But the perception is an ugly dog is an aggressive one?

Err dogs should not be running out at people. And they were not in the garden but on the other side of the street. Hope you are not a dog owner- a dog should not do this.

recycledbottle · 22/04/2020 00:07

This thread is a good laugh.

Thisismytimetoshine · 22/04/2020 00:11

Hard to image how they weren't in somebody's garden. A cul de sac is basically a set of houses in a U shape; where were the random clump of bushes that isn't on anybody's property?
We need a diagram Grin

SonjaMorgan · 22/04/2020 00:13

Lots of break ins have been happening local to us. I would have been scared and shouted too.

My2catsarefab · 22/04/2020 00:13

If your DH had done that round here, his detailed description and photo would be on the local FB group within minutes. A grown man hiding in bushes in the dark? Not the wisest move.

Oldsu · 22/04/2020 00:15

YABFU to call a staffie ugly they are beautiful dogs

LunchBoxPolice · 22/04/2020 00:18

What’s the address? I want to go and play with the staffie.

Popc0rn · 22/04/2020 00:29

Maybe your husband walked past my flat a few nights ago; there were people making quite loud animal noises at about 11pm for about 5 minutes. A bit odd and usually I wouldn't give it too much thought, but as a few PPs have said, everyone is on edge atm and it was a bit unnerving tbh.

But anyway, your husband sounds a bit thoughtless, and you sound pretty aggressive wanting to go and "give him a piece of your mind". Doesn't sound like the dog got anywhere near your family and the poor bloke was probably scared.

circusintown · 22/04/2020 00:35

Agree that it's difficult to play hide and seek in a cul de sac without being on someone's land. Diagram

NeverTwerkNaked · 22/04/2020 00:39

Why did you feel the need to mention he was a key worker? A large slice of the population are key workers, it doesn't give them the opportunity to be totally thoughtless. I'm tired of seeing the word key worker whipped out with a sense of entitlement on here.

Gingerkittykat · 22/04/2020 00:41

What difference does it make that your DH is a keyworker?

A grown man hiding in bushes after dark looks suspicious.

WobblyWoman · 22/04/2020 00:42

Just to clarify they were NOT in anyone’s garden.

Helpful diagram attached(excuse blunt pencils as couldn’t find a sharpener and been doing a lot of colouring lately).

Thank you aupres for understanding.

DS said the dog was one of those ones which drool everywhere (therefore ugly) and the man wouldn’t call it back even though DS was obviously scared. DS loves their night time soirées which is why I’m so pissed of about this. Can imagine him suppressing giggles at the thought of jumping out on DS2 before being terrified out of his witsAngry.

I only mentioned DH being a VERY important keyworker to explain that he’s can’t WFH therefore that’s why he been going out with the DC at night, which is fine. Plenty of people still about round our way. I will pop a note through idiot guys door but certainly not to apologise on DH’s behalf Hmm, but to tell him he’s a c**t! DH is not from the UK and doesn’t really do confrontation in a different language!

Not the staffing, the OP!

Thisismytimetoshine · 22/04/2020 00:46

Staffies don't drool everywhere, they really don't.

Thisismytimetoshine · 22/04/2020 00:47

Glenda's one is amazingly gorgeous 😍

"I only mentioned DH being a VERY important keyworker to explain that he’s can’t WFH therefore that’s why he been going out with the DC at night, which is fine."

...yeah going for a walk is fine, but making weird noises and hiding in the bushes in the dark right now is not fine. He could be the THE MOST IMPORTANT KEYWORKER EVER and it still wouldn't be fine.
