DH won't stop playing with himself

This is semi light hearted, but this habit has been getting on my nerves in these fractious lock down times.

DH ALWAYS has his hands down his trousers, 'fiddling' with his bits when we are sitting on the sofa. It's not sexual, he isn't masturbating, and isn't erect, but basically the whole time we are watching tv or talking he will just be fiddling with himself, I don't know how else to describe it.

He's done it for years and I've mentioned it a couple of times, he just says he finds it comforting and gets a bit annoyed if I mention it or says I'm nagging. Just recently when we are trapped indoors together it's REALLY started to annoy me and I don't know why. I just find it a bit impolite? I have no issue with him masturbating properly in private, or scratching himself if he has an itch, but he'll just do it for ages and doesn't even have the decency to hide it under a blanket! ARGH. So IABU and a prude?

Masturbation is SEXUAL pleasure. There is nothing to indicate this is sexual at all. It’s not nice. But let’s not get caught up in hyperbole.

Put some mittens on him op? Like a baby they can’t stop poking their own eyes out, it’s for his own good.

BunnytheHoneyBee · 22/04/2020 15:10

My DH does this. I think it’s ridiculous and unhygienic. He laughs off my opinion of course.

MoltonSilver · 22/04/2020 15:32

I wonder if you did the same thing would he start to see that it is inappropriate.

Actressy · 22/04/2020 16:11

What about one of those lampshade things vets put on dogs to stop them scratching themselves after surgery?

Fluffybutter · 22/04/2020 16:36

I hate this . Used to always see teen boys having chats with their friends while they’ve got their hands down their pants ... gross.
Just seems like a nasty habit but one that needs to be gotten out of

Fluffybutter · 22/04/2020 16:39

I would say covering the op's home in smelly dick hands is harmful...
HA!

Windyatthebeach · 22/04/2020 16:52

It is beyond gross. Has he never been told not to do it by anyone else eg. his mum or dad? I would ditch him if he didn't stop tbh. The thought of penis pong all over my house, on things the kids could touch makes me want to heave!

Neither my dad, brother or dh do this. My ds is aware of his penis( he is 2) but doesn't hold it. I guess this may change as we potty train.

I once worked with a pharmacist who did this and it was extremely disconcerting to be talking to him whilst he was adjusting himself. An older woman I worked with at the time told him it wouldn't fall off so he could stop with the cupping himself. This made him ease off somewhat but it did seem like an unconscious thing that he should have been told about as a child! We didn't work with him again as we all felt uncomfortable.

I dont think it is unreasonable for you to mention you dislike this but would you leave him over it? To me the fact that seeing you have a problem with it and not making any attempt to change shows a lack of respect.

Sceptre86 · 22/04/2020 17:06

I actually do work with a woman who always puts her hands at the back of her trouser waistband just above her bum. I never eat anything she offers me...

isabellerossignol · 22/04/2020 17:42

If I worked with a man who put his hands down his trousers whilst he was talking to me, or touched himself in that area, I'd be straight to HR. There are far too many people who turn a blind eye to that sort of thing and brush it off as 'he can't help it'. It might not be sexual in that he's not masturbating, but it's definitely a power game.

Pedallleur · 22/04/2020 17:57

Blokes love tracksuit bottoms/elasticated waists so they can walk around cupping or playing.

Fluffybutter · 22/04/2020 17:58

Blokes love tracksuit bottoms/elasticated waists so they can walk around cupping or playing. not any in my family!
None of them even wear tracksuit bottoms

Actressy · 22/04/2020 18:34

Blokes love tracksuit bottoms/elasticated waists so they can walk around cupping or playing.

As if there were another reason needed why they are such repulsive garments.

Coffeeandbeans · 22/04/2020 18:58

I agree if this happened in my place of work It would be reported. It isn’t appropriate behaviour and they could up with a warning or worse.

TheWernethWife · 23/04/2020 22:12

FFS Op, did he do this when you were courting, on your wedding day for example, no he didn't so he really can control his actions. He just doesn't care if it upsets you.

user1494182820 · 23/04/2020 22:25

I don't think it's a man thing. My OH, father, brothers and other human adult men I have lived with do not and have not done this. It's grim and unhygienic.

stringoflights · 24/04/2020 15:39

So grim Confused

fibrecruncher · 24/04/2020 15:54

Yanbu. Yuck. As previous posters mentioned offer him an alternate to play with, a fidget spinner, stress ball or those Chinese balls.

BatShite · 24/04/2020 16:06

Would expect this from a kid, not an adult. This is vile and if my DH was doing it all the time, I wouldn't be impressed at all. Hell, I am currently trying to get it out of our 5 year old, and even he only does it maybe once every few days, so DH doing it would make me so mad, especially all the time when watching tv.

Blueuggboots · 24/04/2020 16:24

I work with offenders and it's the first thing they are told as they walk in my room "can you take your hands out of your pants please? It's disrespectful and unnecessary". (Obviously only if they've got their hands down their trousers in the first place!!)
I HATE IT.

BruceAndNosh · 24/04/2020 16:28

"those Chinese balls"
He's already got his own balls to play with

NorthernSpirit · 24/04/2020 16:43

Small children do this and learn (through parenting) to stop as its bad manners.

He’s a man child and it’s disgusting.

randomer · 25/04/2020 17:21

@blueboots, great stuff. Clear, unambiguous.
