Wearing ppe in shops...

I just don't get it.

People wearing gloves in shops, it's not protecting you anymore than if you just wash / Antibac your hands when you're done.
There's just no need for it.
So far today, I've seen a girl wearing gloves, walking along on her phone texting, so all those germs youre protecting your hands from, are now on your phone, that you're probably going to use as normal once you've taken your gloves off.

I've seen a woman with mask and gloves on, came out the supermarket, removed her mask with gloves still on, so all those germs on your gloves are now on your face.

I think shops shouldn't allow it tbh.

what about shop workers?

Thighmageddon · 18/04/2020 16:36

I think if it gives them peace of mind it's fine. Personally I've used gloves on the rare occasion I've been out purely to stop myself from touching my face.

hammeringinmyhead · 18/04/2020 16:36

I think shops shouldn't allow it tbh.

Why?

Thymelord · 18/04/2020 16:38

I find it funny watching all these mask and glove wearers as they stand in the supermarket rubbing their eyes and wiping their noses.

iklboo · 18/04/2020 16:39

Wearing gloves & mask - pulling it down to smoke.

KellyHall · 18/04/2020 16:40

Unless you wear a different pair of gloves for each task you do or item you touch, regularly washing/gelling your hands will be far more worthwhile.

Brooksey5 · 18/04/2020 16:40

I can’t see why you’d have a problem with masks.

They help protect people that aren’t the wearer eg. Is someone is a asymptotic.

Mrsmadevans · 18/04/2020 16:43

I am a retired Nurse, l wore gloves when l did sterile dressings , l never touched my face or anything else while wearing them & it is my normal mindset , hence they stop me from touching my face when l wear them, so they are invaluable to me .

buckeejit · 18/04/2020 16:44

Yabu. It's no worse for you as long as the feckers take their gloves home to the bin instead of littering them. So many gloves left lying around.

I will be wearing a mask in future supermarket trips

Northernsoullover · 18/04/2020 16:44

Wear gloves, wear mask. Remove the gloves immediately after leaving the store but before pawing your car. Thymelord I haven't seen any glove and mask wearers do this. I'm sure some do but having gloves and masks, for me it makes an unconscious scratch of the nose a very conscious action so you don't need to be quite so smug and patronising.
I've got safety goggles too just to complete the look Wink.

ThePrettyOneX · 18/04/2020 16:45

In all other NORMAL countries wearing masks is compulsary and you get a fine if you are seen in public without a mask. It is only to save you from spreading the virus if you have it and maybe are asymptomatic. So logic goes - if every single person wears a mask, then less of a virus will be spread. I absolutely inderstand that it is very hard to understabd by british people. You folks seem to think that even your doctors and nursers dont need ppe anymore. OK then. This is top 1 reason why UK will be worse hit country in Europe. People just lacking common sense.

Dimosaur · 18/04/2020 16:49

But it doesn't stop people touching their face, I've seen it.
They are acting like normal with the gloves On, touching everything they normally if we didn't have covid around.
Wearing ppe is fine, if you're going to wear and use it properly.
Gloves aren't a magic barrier against the corona virus.

Dimosaur · 18/04/2020 16:51

@brooksey5 I don't, masks are OK, but again, if you're wearing gloves too and take your mask off first...
What's the point?

OP posts:
Dimosaur · 18/04/2020 16:52

@theprettyone...
Im a nurse, so no I don't think that At all!
And absolutely agree with people wearing masks.
But I also know how infection prevention Control works.
And there's absolutely no point wearing ppe if you don't use it properly.

But why do you think shops shouldn't allow it?

orangejuicer · 18/04/2020 16:55

You're being a bit ott.

I wear gloves to handle my click and collect orders - to protect the staff not me. The gloves stay in the car between orders.

perniciousdot · 18/04/2020 16:55

I think shops shouldn't allow it tbh.

Shops should allow it? If people want to misuse a pair of gloves that is fully their responsibility, not the shops.

perniciousdot · 18/04/2020 16:56

*Shops shouldn't allow it?

CammieKennaway · 18/04/2020 16:56

My husband wears latex gloves when he goes out shopping - he does it because I'm extremely vulnerable with a bone marrow and blood cancer and I also have extremely high blood pressure as well as quite a few other high risk factors.
He also wears a mask and although he looks a bit daft in his mask and latex gloves (and looked like an assassin the other day when he wore them with his smart suit and brogues as he'd been having important video conferences from home), he does it simply because he loves me and wants to protect me because if I catch it, it's very highly likely I'll be dead and very quickly. He strips off the gloves and bins them before he even enters the house and he even disinfects the shopping and his shoes before he comes inside and he changes his clothes in the hall before bagging them and washing them himself. The mask is simply to prevent him from airbourne particles after he saw a report where it was possible for particles to travel over two shopping aisles when someone coughs. A bit extreme maybe, but it keeps him feeling a bit in control of something when he spends every waking second petrified that he's going to lose me - it was hard enough for him when I was first diagnosed with cancer and just before lockdown we were told things had got worse so he's even more terrified and feeling useless.
Maybe don't judge until you know their personal circumstances.

HandfulOfDust · 18/04/2020 16:58

YANBU there are plenty of desperate pleas of PPE for social workers and other key workers who have to work an interact with people. It's ridiculous to waste it when it's not even protecting you!

HappyHammy · 18/04/2020 16:58

Its not up to the shops to tell people not to wear gloves. I wear gloves and a mask. That is my choice.

Dimosaur · 18/04/2020 17:00

Because it'll stop people misusing ppe...
And therefore stop the spread as much maybe.

OP posts:
hammeringinmyhead · 18/04/2020 17:03

No, it won't. If your problem is people touching their faces and other items with gloves, the same people would just do it with their hands.

Dimosaur · 18/04/2020 17:05

@hammeringinmyhead yes that's true I guess.
It's still a waste of ppe though!

OP posts:
HappyHammy · 18/04/2020 17:07

Are the public wearing hospital standard ppe?
