Wearing ppe in shops...

I just don't get it.

People wearing gloves in shops, it's not protecting you anymore than if you just wash / Antibac your hands when you're done.
There's just no need for it.
So far today, I've seen a girl wearing gloves, walking along on her phone texting, so all those germs youre protecting your hands from, are now on your phone, that you're probably going to use as normal once you've taken your gloves off.

I've seen a woman with mask and gloves on, came out the supermarket, removed her mask with gloves still on, so all those germs on your gloves are now on your face.

I think shops shouldn't allow it tbh.

please keep in mind some medical staff are wearing masks in shops for YOUR protection. having nursed lots of covid patients they cant be sure they arent incubating so wear stuff to keep you safe.

quarantinevibes · 18/04/2020 17:48

So just because the minority touch their face and use their phone none of us should wear them?

VioletCharlotte · 18/04/2020 17:50

The other day I saw a guy in the queue outside Asda pull down his mask, smoke a fag, then pull it up again. Seriously...!

QuestionMarkNow · 18/04/2020 17:53

Ive seen a guy with some sort of plastic yellow! suit, googles, mask and gloves going round our little co-op the other day (and not respecting the 2m. I suppose he thought he was protected?)

I struggled to keep a straight face tbh.

squishedgrapes · 18/04/2020 17:58

I've seen people coming to visit next door wearing it. They think it's fine to break lock down rules as long as they were mask and gloves. Some people are just ignorant

squishedgrapes · 18/04/2020 17:58

Wear not we're

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 18/04/2020 17:59

It was the people wearing gloves and masks at the supermarket this week, who were ignoring the one way system, invading my space, leaning over me, clearly had met up with friends/relatives and were walking round just chatting, it gives idiots a false sense of security. PPE is only effective if worn and used correctly.

Burnbabyburn1 · 18/04/2020 18:03

@Dimosaur which is why it’s useless, as people don’t use it properly. They wear gloves and as others have said, touch everything and bring it home.

Also how effective are the face masks? How long can they be used?

WatchoutfortheROUS · 18/04/2020 18:05

I've been wearing gloves sometimes out and about but I suffer from very very dry hands that can get cracked skin if I wash them too much. So I wear gloves so I don't have to wash them when I get home I just bin the gloves. I probably look odd but it's better than cracked sore skin!

Sparklingbrook · 18/04/2020 18:09

I keep reading conflicting articles about whether gloves and masks are any use whatsoever. A while back I read that the masks are to protect others from you not the other way around.

The face shields make more sense and they would stop you touching your face.

But if it makes the wearer feel better I don't see the harm.

ThePrettyOneX · 18/04/2020 18:10

Some of people are funny as f. They wash the bloody groceries in bleach but wont put a mask on not to breath in/ breath out the deadly virus. Ridiculous. Only in UK though. Glad the rest of normal world has realised that they need to wear masks. Lets wait another month to see when uk deaths will be at the top of the corona death statistics 👏👏👏👏

Pixilicious · 18/04/2020 18:11

Why do you care? Does it affect you in any way?

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/04/2020 18:13

the masks are to protect others from you not the other way around.
That is correct. Especially considering that general public doesn't usually have an access to special ones which are fitted and have special filters

BelfryBat · 18/04/2020 18:14

so don't wear it

Oh, you want to control what OTHER PEOPLE do?

Get lost.

Ulver · 18/04/2020 18:16

If PPE didn’t work why would surgeons and medical staff wear it?
Would you want to be operated on by someone without PPE?
Honestly

Sparklingbrook · 18/04/2020 18:17

I think people have to do whatever they think is necessary to make themselves feel safe. Even if that makes no sense or difference.

At the start of all this I saw a lady shopping in her Marigolds which must have ,made sense to her.

The approved advice so far has always been wash your hands for 20 seconds and don't touch your face'. Who knows though, it may be introduced that we all have to wear masks to protect others.

EngagedAgain · 18/04/2020 18:20

Think it is better if you don't then do something silly like handling phone etc otherwise there's no point.

Dimosaur · 18/04/2020 18:24

Get off ya high horses...
Im not saying ppe isn't a good thing,
I'm saying it needs to be used and worn properly to be effective.

If you're wearing it properly then good on you, but if youre not, then more fool you, and it's annoying to see the ignorance of some people.

I think wearing ppe gives people a false sense of security, it isn't a magic cure against corona virus.

ThePrettyOneX · 18/04/2020 18:25

@Ulver exactly!!!

Surgeons do it so they wouldnt infect the patient.

If everyone wore it then no one would infect anyone. Makes perfect sense. To those who can use their brain. Because Govt doesnt make it mandatory people dont think on their own. If Govt said everyone start drinking bleach to disinfect yourselves I bet half of nation would do ot LOL ... sad LOL

saraclara · 18/04/2020 18:25

I wore gloves last time.
I'm going to the supermarket as infrequently as I can. Which means I need to do a big shop and I'm in there for longer than I'd like. If I wear gloves I've very much less likely to touch my face.

MissHoskins · 18/04/2020 18:28

Northernsoullover · 18/04/2020 18:32

Perhaps instead of getting into a lather then OP, why don't you write a post on how to use PPE correctly?
Trisha Greenhalgh has written an article on mask use and feels that we should be using masks as 'precautionary principle' and I agree. The argument about people not using it correctly can be overcome with people like yourself who can give a quick handy guide on what not to do.
I use it properly but I appreciate that others might not. Instead of getting angry and telling people not to bother more care should be taken on getting people to use it correctly.

loobyloo1234 · 18/04/2020 18:33

YABVU. You do you OP. But who are you to judge those that wear PPE because it makes them feel a bit safer?

db11 · 18/04/2020 18:35

act as if you are preventing the spread from you to others, that's the point! It's not to prevent you contracting the virus. They should be mandatory but aren't as there is a PPE shortage and the government can't supply the NHS let alone the public.

Toomanydishes · 18/04/2020 18:37

My friend makes reusable masks from thick cotton and she has sent me a few as well. I wear one evertime I need to go out for my food shopping. I put it on at home after I’ve washed my hands and I only take it off after I’ve washed my hands again. I’m not using any PPE intended for NHS and as a PP said, if it’s even 10% efficient compared with not using one then I don’t see why someone would have an issue. I only wear it once and then it goes in the wash on a high temperature cycle.
I can reuse it once dry
