Wearing ppe in shops...

I just don't get it.

People wearing gloves in shops, it's not protecting you anymore than if you just wash / Antibac your hands when you're done.
There's just no need for it.
So far today, I've seen a girl wearing gloves, walking along on her phone texting, so all those germs youre protecting your hands from, are now on your phone, that you're probably going to use as normal once you've taken your gloves off.

I've seen a woman with mask and gloves on, came out the supermarket, removed her mask with gloves still on, so all those germs on your gloves are now on your face.

I think shops shouldn't allow it tbh.

Facemasks don't protect the eyes, which is another entry point for the virus.

I wear a mask shopping. For one thing it’s protecting others if I have anything spreadable. But I have also noticed people keep their distance more when I wear a mask.

Sparklingbrook · 18/04/2020 18:42

Not another link to that petition. Hmm

hammeringinmyhead · 18/04/2020 18:43

ThePrettyOneX has certainly chosen a drum to bang.

ThePrettyOneX · 18/04/2020 18:58

thnx

The best thing I witnessed directly outside the supermarket, was an individual wearing a face mask, who proceeded to remove it temporarily and spit a huge amount onto the floor before entering the shop 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

GetOffTheTableMabel · 18/04/2020 19:03

I don’t think shops should allow it tbh
This just seems blisteringly dumb to me. Do you really think that poor overworked, underpaid supermarket staff should, on top of everything else they are having to deal with, have to start policing what shoppers are wearing?
Do you think the public would be supportive and compliant if they had to discuss with Morrisons checkout staff whether or not they could wear their own gloves?
Shop staff wouldn’t want and shouldn’t have this responsibility. It’s a ridiculous idea.

randomsabreuse · 18/04/2020 19:04

I wear gloves when shopping because it helps me remember not to touch my face. Wore them loads when decorating our project house and gloves meant paint on face!

cookiemonster5 · 18/04/2020 19:05

I drive t the supermarket and put gloves on before I do my shopping. Once I'm finished I unload into the car, take trolly back and remove gloves then antibacterial my hands on the way to the car. Once I'm home a fresh set of gloves on to unload the shopping (my husband has the door open because I call him when I'm on my way). Gloves in the bin once the shopping is in. Unpack and wipe down the shopping and put away bags back into boot of the car then wash and anti bac hands while husband clean the table.

If you use the ppe correctly then it is making a difference.

And I clean my keys, phone and bank card when I get home too. If shops didn't allow it I would shop elsewhere.

Dimosaur

I'm glad I don't live in your house!

JohnFinlaysNewTeeth · 18/04/2020 19:34

Saw people waking down the street in masks, pulling them down to drink a can of special brew... there’s no hope.

perniciousdot · 18/04/2020 19:38

Get off ya high horses...

Says the OP who suggests shops should not allow people to wear gloves Hmm

Burnbabyburn1 · 18/04/2020 20:12

@cookiemonster5 what about your shoes and clothes? Do you wear a mask? Do you know how to correctly remove gloves?

FabbyChix · 18/04/2020 23:30

The gloves Totally make sense everywhere you touch others have and you have no idea I’d they had the virus. The masks only work for those who have it not sneezing the virus everywhere

Northernsoullover · 18/04/2020 23:33

@Sparklingbrook I have safety goggles too Blush. I clean ovens for work so had a spare pair.

NeneValley · 18/04/2020 23:41

All the PPE you need for preventing hand to face touching, apparently.

Just stop judging others.

I wear my mask to protect you. I’m a key worker who has visited New York and the Far East in the last 3 weeks. I know how to wear a mask effectively. In line with government guidelines I am permitted to go to the supermarket if I do not have Covid 19 symptoms. But the fact remains, I work in a job where a large number of people doing it get Covid 19, and I go to places that have either had cases since the start of the pandemic or are at the epicentre, and I know that a mask would stop me from infecting others if I were to be an asymptomatic Covid 19 sufferer. Would you prefer it if I didn’t wear my mask to protect you? Or should I be treated like a social pariah because I have been to the Far East to bring back the NHS essential PPE supplies? Don’t assume everyone wearing a mask is ignorantly hoping it will protect them - many of us wearing them are well informed regarding the risks we take in our critical jobs and we know we do it to protect you.

middleager · 19/04/2020 00:18

In this country we just love to have a dig, take the piss, think that facemasks are used only in Japan etc and that those wearing them are bonkers.

I've got dust masks. I was ill a couple of weeks ago and even after quarantine if I'd gone to a supermarket I'd have worn my mask just in case - to protect others.

Sneery hangups are going to place others in danger. We need to grow up and ditch the British scoffing.

middleager · 19/04/2020 00:23

Oh and I find this "do you know how to remove gloves?" condescending.

Do teach us, or otherwise I might accidentally remove them using my teeth, blow into them to create a comedy puffer fish, or pull them off with gay abandon and wipe my brow with them before smearing them along a public handrail. FFS.

middleager · 19/04/2020 00:26

I'll ditch my scoffing now...

Northernsoullover · 19/04/2020 00:28

middle my friend who is a retired nurse has been glove shaming. When I informed her I knew what I was doing she asked 'do you have more than one pair?' I actually have around 200 pairs thank you Mrs sneery glove.. I have lots from my work PPE stash.

SpiritEssence · 19/04/2020 00:31

I work in a store and wear gloves. I antibacterial my hands then put new gloves on and do this alot. I'm more worried about people not adhering to the social distance rules and coming right up to me asking a question so I ask them to move back before i even help

Daffodil101 · 19/04/2020 00:33

Have you watched the film ‘Contagion?’

It will make you think about what you touch. I’m taking about cash dispensers, chip and pin, door handles, shopping trolleys.

I personally wear gloves once a week to Sainsbury’s. I’m quite methodical, I only put them on once I’m in the shop. I also spray disinfectant in the trolley. Little things, but they make me feel better.
