Wearing ppe in shops...

I just don't get it.

People wearing gloves in shops, it's not protecting you anymore than if you just wash / Antibac your hands when you're done.
There's just no need for it.
So far today, I've seen a girl wearing gloves, walking along on her phone texting, so all those germs youre protecting your hands from, are now on your phone, that you're probably going to use as normal once you've taken your gloves off.

I've seen a woman with mask and gloves on, came out the supermarket, removed her mask with gloves still on, so all those germs on your gloves are now on your face.

I think shops shouldn't allow it tbh.

@Dimosaur

I just don't get it.
You don't have to. Just mind your own business and leave others to mind theirs.

I think shops shouldn't allow it tbh.
They'd lose a lot of customers if they tried it.

Willyoujustbequiet · 18/04/2020 17:10

Yabu.

More people wear them the better. Its easy to take a mask and gloves off correctly.

CoffeeAndToffee · 18/04/2020 17:14

I went to Tesco yesterday. Waited in the queue outside then just before getting my trolley I put gloves on. Wore them until I was back at the car then took one glove off to click the key and open the boot. Used the gloved hand to lift the shopping into the boot and push the trolley to put it away. Used the ungloved hand to touch the car door handle and key. Then once in the car I removed other glove and antibacced my hands. And thought to myself how odd I must have looked.

CoffeeAndToffee · 18/04/2020 17:16

But wearing gloves did remind me about the risk and prevented me from touching my face or scratching my nose.

ThePrettyOneX · 18/04/2020 17:16

Look at Japan, they havent put economy on hold, no lockdown, no social distancing. 120mln population and they have only 190 people who died of corona. Why? They ALL wear masks. No brainer. I cant believ british are always last , last to close schools, last to order ventilators and ppe and last to release that wearing masks (even home made cloth ones ) will save lives.

ThePrettyOneX · 18/04/2020 17:17

*realise

PristineCondition · 18/04/2020 17:18

Stop blaming people for using ppe, if it's available in corner shops\chemist bits there to buy. Your angry at the public when it's not them not buying it for you it's the government.

I hate this only trained medical professionals wear it properly shit. Thousands of others wear it every day in their jobs, like we are all Neanderthals seeing a mask for the first time.
Most wear it correctly.
Most other countries recommend masks
the UK who's government still won't order enough dont......

Medical staff in Most other countries encourage mask wearing for the public.
UK isn't soecial, we don't know better, as shown by our horrendous death count

GinDrinker00 · 18/04/2020 17:18

I’m sick to death of people saying this. I use gloves, but I use them correctly if people want to use PPE to feel safer who are you to judge?
Life’s shit enough right now without people needlessly judging.

velocitygirl7 · 18/04/2020 17:20

I've got a thick cotton mask that I wash at 60 after every wear. I take it off (carefully) as soon as I'm in the car, along with the disposable gloves I wear and throw them on the floor of the car.
I don't touch my phone while I'm shopping and just take my bank card which I keep in my back pocket.
As soon as I get home I shower, wash all the clothes I wore and my family know not to touch things like my car keys etc
All of this may be fruitless but with a type 1 diabetic dh and asthmatic ds, I frankly couldn't give a shiny shit what anyone else thinks of me!

velocitygirl7 · 18/04/2020 17:21

@GinDrinker00 spot on! How about all being a little bit more understanding and caring towards on another? The whole Caroline Flack 'be kind' thing seems to have been forgotten....

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/04/2020 17:24

YANBU there are plenty of desperate pleas of PPE for social workers and other key workers who have to work an interact with people. It's ridiculous to waste it when it's not even protecting you!
Most PPE people have would not meet hospital standards. I have gloves. They are ok for restaurant kitchen, not hospital.

Incrediblytired · 18/04/2020 17:25

Haha! You’d think I’m really nuts, I dong have latex gloves so I’ve been wearing WOOLLEY GLOVES!!! 😂😂😂

I’m a prolific face toucher and it stops me, I take them off before I get in the car, put them in a carrier bag, then antibac my hands and drive home before loads of washing. I leave the gloves in the car boot for a week and then repeat.

Yes it’s a bit crazy (going to look crazier in peak summer) but it helps me so what would be the value in banning me???

viques · 18/04/2020 17:26

pristinecondition

My local pharmacy is selling hand sanitiser at £5.00 for a 100ml handbag size bottle and single use masks for £1.99 each. I call that profiteering not healthcare.

ThePrettyOneX · 18/04/2020 17:26

Dimosaur · 18/04/2020 17:26

Absolutely fine if you're using it correctly.
But if your not it's pointless and I've observed many people not using it correctly.

The mind your own business and let people be (even when they are still touching their face, phones keys etc with gloves on) attitude is exactly why this virus will last longer than it needs to.

alphasox · 18/04/2020 17:27

It’s personal choice. No one is forcing you to do anything so leave them be.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/04/2020 17:27

Masks are also being used in European countries and it really looks like they are really helping. I know one has them compulsory with fines if not worn outside

PristineCondition · 18/04/2020 17:29

@viques so report them for profiteering
Mines not.3 medical style masks for £1 or link to a site that sells cotton handmade ones online with filter pocket and nose clip for £3.99\£5so
Hand sanitizer in the little bottles is £1.50 same as always

hammeringinmyhead · 18/04/2020 17:30

What is the opposite of minding your own business when it comes to people touching their face?

PristineCondition · 18/04/2020 17:32

No lack off medical equipment, poverty forcing people to work and bosses not giving a shit about social distancing will kill more then Janine wearing a mask wrong in Sainsbury's

Thisisitisit · 18/04/2020 17:34

I put my phone into a sandwich bag if I know I'm going to need it out, a bit wasteful but at least I can just chuck it and then give the phone itself a wipe over when I'm home and feel a bit better about it. I do things gloves give a bit of a false sense of security, but if it makes people feel better meh.

Ulver · 18/04/2020 17:34

I went to a local Londis post office today.
The shops owners dad was serving wearing PPE.
He is a microbiologist during the week and is helping his son out in the weekend. I was also wearing full PPE.

MinkowskisButterfly · 18/04/2020 17:41

I think masks should be worn by all when shopping and travelling by public transport to protect staff. My husband is on the shop floor all the time -isnt behind perspex like cashiers - and the store is overcrowded (ASDA sort your shit out) and he is bombarded with customers who either can't or won't socially distance.

MrsT1405 · 18/04/2020 17:42

We get provided with gloves in supermarkets and anti back for the trolley. It just means people wear 2 pairs of gloves and cant make their phones work to pay. I think there are more things to worry about than other people's dozy glove wearing habits.

perniciousdot · 18/04/2020 17:45

The mind your own business and let people be (even when they are still touching their face, phones keys etc with gloves on) attitude is exactly why this virus will last longer than it needs to.

I really don't understand what you think should happen. We should pass a new law against face touching to validate your concerns?
