The old boy doing laps of his garden and raising millions for the NHS charities - great effort and to be applauded.

Michael Ball warbling his way through a cringeworthy version of You'll Never Walk Alone - not fine.

Please make it stop.

MrsJBaptiste · 18/04/2020 09:27

No, I think it's fine but wish the money was going to some of the charities out there who are absolutely desperate for money at the moment.

Ghostlyglow · 18/04/2020 09:28

I think this is only the beginning, it won't be stopping for quite some timeGrin and don't get me started on the outbreaks of dreadful poetry all over social mediaWink

BiggerBoat1 · 18/04/2020 09:30

The last thing I need to see in isolation is bloody Michael Ball.
Jump off that bandwagon you arse.

RedHelenB · 18/04/2020 09:33

Stop being so miserable. Tom was watching him sing it and was singing along. Apparently he'd got on really well.with him ? Hardly jumping on a bandwagon any more than all those people are who are donating. Just enjoy a good news story for a change.

RibenaMonsoon · 18/04/2020 09:36

I love Michael Ball.
You can't do right for doing wrong at the moment. Try and do a good thing and you are accused of jumping on the bandwagon and only doing it to make yourself look good.

Someones always going to find a negative view on anything. It's a shame

ScarletFever · 18/04/2020 09:37

Too much, I have to keep muting my fkg tv, I dont want to hear Michael Ball warbling

BiggerBoat1 · 18/04/2020 09:37

Its not a good news story.

Tom is a lovely old bloke and he's obviously sparked something in people that he never intended but is clearly wonderful.

The NHS isn't a charity though. It should be funded through taxation. There are plenty of charities that will desperately need support now if people are feeling charitable.

Pseudosudocrem · 18/04/2020 09:38

I can't bear it. What kind of a monster am I?!

MrsJBaptiste · 18/04/2020 09:38

I love Michael Ball!

Felling totally like a middle-aged woman now...

catwithnohat · 18/04/2020 09:38

Thank god someone said this - BBC Breakfast are plugging it like mad and its excruciatingly awful.

PineappleDanish · 18/04/2020 09:41

To give Michael Ball credit, I really don't think he's coming at this from a "how can I advance my career" perspective. He genuinely thinks that he's doing a great thing by creating an uber-cheesy single and roping in the star of the moment, and a NHS backing choir.

All that's lacking is some footage of cute children doing jazz hands or perhaps puppies frolicking.

I haven’t even heard but know I would hate it. Michael Ball gives me the heebie jeebies.

AmelieTaylor · 18/04/2020 09:48

Haven't heard MB at all?

I think Tom is fantastic, I donated very early on, hoping he'd make it to £10,000 I think?

He's done so so well & I love how much support he's had, but I'm worried that he will over do it now with the pressure to keep going. It would be beyond dreadful if he was to get ill (or worse) from pushing himself too hard.

Healthyandhappy · 18/04/2020 09:50

@BiggerBoat1 the nhs isnt a charity it's a buissness. However it has a charity attached. The helipad was made in Sheffield via the charity. TVs are bought from charity some new communications such as iPads etc are been bought in some hosps from charity. The charity it their to make been an inpatient better

ardocam · 18/04/2020 09:51

Let them do, it how does it affect you OP?

Orangeblossom78 · 18/04/2020 09:51

It seems a wee bit crass any celebrity getting attention in the current circumstances

Can't stand those celebrities dealing with lockdown nonsense either - or 'quarantine' as they call it. FFS

aladyofinderterminateage · 18/04/2020 09:51

The money is going to charities that work with the NHS, not to the general NHS budget. It is to provide things like accommodation for parents who have to travel long distances for surgery or cancer treatment for their children. I can't think of other things at the moment, but I read an article about this recently. I think children's hospices were mentioned as well.

Flease · 18/04/2020 09:53

Thanks OP! I was thinking the same and couldn’t find anyone who agrees with me. In my case he reminds me strongly of an ex boyfriend who is currently also self promoting his warbling on social media! As for him and Alfie Boe, please make that stop!

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 18/04/2020 09:53

Cliff Richard hasn't risen yet so we're a long way off peaking.....keep your moaning for when that happens so you can go full whinge. 🤟☝️💅

Lockheart · 18/04/2020 09:56

I like Michael Ball and I think the fundraising is great (leaving aside the fact that it shouldn't be necessary) but I'm starting to get uncomfortable at the mass-lionising of individuals on social media.

It's an interesting phenomenon we've seen with things like Charlie's Army and so forth. It's used to whip people up into a frenzy for a short period and then people move on and almost instantly forget. I don't think it's healthy. Certainly not for the individual at the centre of it.

I also find there's a huge cross over between the most ardent cheerleaders of this sort of thing and the kind of people who leave angry comments on the daily mail pages complaining about immigrants.

The kind of people who post angry comments under Tom's fundraising which go along the lines of "HE DESERVES A KNIGHTHOOD NOW!!!!" (emphasis on the "NOW!!!!" - and with corrected spelling from me - totally ignoring the fact we're in the middle of a crisis).

It started off being a sweet, heartwarming story. But it's starting to make me uncomfortable. I don't know why but the footage of him completing his final lap with a guard of honour from the military didn't make me feel good, it made me feel very uneasy to be honest. I think Tom is being exploited by lots of avenues for social media points.

1forsorrow · 18/04/2020 09:56

Lenny Henry is on now. He's doing something.

1forsorrow · 18/04/2020 09:58

Michael Ball on now, can't see what is so awful about it, there's been a hell of a lot worse on.

MorrisZapp · 18/04/2020 09:59

He's a cnut. I heard him interviewing Ruth Jones once, gushing over Gavin and Stacey and praising her performance. Two minutes later, she referred to her character by name and he had no idea who she was talking about. Like a lady, she covered for him.

He's a prick who doesn't know who Nessa is.

Aragog · 18/04/2020 09:59

Cliff Richard hasn't risen yet so we're a long way off peaking....

Cliff's been singing, from his bathroom, with Gary Barlow on GB's Instagram. So he's definitely out there somewhere, maybe he's waiting for 'just the right moment.'

Whatabanana · 18/04/2020 09:59

@WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo . Actually I have seen Cliff Richard somewhere online doing a duet with Gary Barlow!!
