The old boy doing laps of his garden and raising millions for the NHS charities - great effort and to be applauded.

Michael Ball warbling his way through a cringeworthy version of You'll Never Walk Alone - not fine.

Please make it stop.

This is in really poor taste right now. A couple of weeks later maybe but not today, on the anniversary of Anne Williams' (the real Iron Lady) death and not 3 days after the Hillsborough anniversary. Bad timing.

NewPapaGuinea · 18/04/2020 18:39

You can choose to avoid it if it’s not to your taste.

Notredamn · 18/04/2020 18:47

One in a long line of celebs taking it upon themselves to indulge themselves, thinking all us plebs will lap it up.
Famous people all have one thing in common: plenty of money. So how about donate some fucking money and sit down.

ALongHardWinter · 18/04/2020 19:01

Cliff Richard hasn't risen yet so we're a long way off peaking.... Grin I'd forgotten all about Cliff! I do like Michael Ball though,he always looks as if he's smiling.

Notredamn · 18/04/2020 19:09

He always looks as if he's smiling

That's because he's so pleased with himself (and his cheeks are bloated with self-importance)!

randomer · 18/04/2020 19:39

Perhaps we will have a heavy rain shower and Cliff can sing a ditty to jolly us along. I do hope so.

😂😂

Agree. And the "Voices for Care" choir doesn't seem to be an actual NHS Choir. I can't find any information about them anywhere. Seems strange when there are so many real and authentic NHS choirs across the UK.

I guess they’re all a bit busy right now.

ThePawtriarchy · 18/04/2020 21:28

I think Michael Ball would fit in well in a Jilly Cooper novel as the male version of her opera singer that turns up at events and dinner parties, invited or not, and bursts into earsplitting song.

TSSDNCOP · 18/04/2020 22:21

@1forsorrow I looked Anne Williams up, before her death in 2013 she was a Hillsborough campaigner after her son, Kevin's awful death at the match.

Now I hadn't heard of Anne, but thanks to the discussion of the use of YNWA in a different context I now do. So, you could say, another positive to come from the use of the song in this context.

TimeTravellersHat · 19/04/2020 00:14

Michael Ball is just “icky”. Tom on the other hand is commendable.

Many of the comments on YouTube berating Michael made me laugh out loud.

As for Barlow - he gives me the rage. Why does he have to move his head towards his webcam every time he “sings” (croons?). It’s infuriating. Even my usually super chilled OH resorting to shouting “why is he doing that?” at the tv the other day.

Have to say I cannot stand the sudden trend of clapping/ dancing / playing an instrument / singing etc on your doorstep. It’s all completely cringe and virtue signalling. I’d rather people spent their time reflecting on their own actions. I don’t doubt that many #bekind posters were the very same people stockpiling pasta and toilet roll.

notangelinajolie · 19/04/2020 00:38

While I don't doubt MB's good intentions, I feel it is inappropriate for celebs to be getting involved in anything right now. They really need to step right back, celebs with egos aka I can use my fame to make a difference are neither wanted or needed. I find it really distasteful.

Tom Moore has no ego whatsoever and he has touched the hearts and pockets of a million times more people than any celeb ever could.

Plus, I'm a little bit gutted that MB has stopped Vera from getting to number 1 and usurping the Queen after her, 'we will meet again' speech which was genius.

Under the paragraph about Fleabag.

All money raised from fans tuning in to the hilarious pre-recorded show will go to the NHS, along with OTHER frontline charities

Pixxie7 · 19/04/2020 02:27

The nhs has a charity connected to it and the money will go to them. It is used for extras for patients. I just hope Tom realises it because I think his intention was for it to go to front line staff.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/04/2020 02:32

I quite like Michael Ball, but it was written as a song for a contralto, and just doesn't sound right to me sung by a man.

Between Tom and Michael and the Queen and Vera I'd go for the latter!

Springcatkin · 19/04/2020 02:37

Cannot stand YNWA bloody Liverpool fans

randomer · 19/04/2020 07:53

I think Tom thinks he is helping nurses and doctors in the present crisis.

SophieB100 · 19/04/2020 08:16

God no, not Cliff.
As if things aren't crap enough.

RedHelenB · 19/04/2020 08:20

Front line staff are getting help from this. They've said so repeatedly. It's not all for patients.

DysonFury · 19/04/2020 08:53

All sounds utterly abysmal apart from darling Captain Tom Wine

randomer · 19/04/2020 09:06

Not picking a fight, but where is the money going to please?

user1471565182 · 19/04/2020 11:01

I think a lot of people enjoyed the war in this country, it felt like they were at the centre of something huge and it was much more adventurous than the first war. For me though it should never be separated from the Holocaust, Japanese POW camps and 20 million soviet civilians dead. I wonder how channel islanders feel about it.

PineappleDanish · 19/04/2020 11:36

Randomer - you could easily google that without the need for being spoon fed every little snippet of information.
