The old boy doing laps of his garden and raising millions for the NHS charities - great effort and to be applauded.

Michael Ball warbling his way through a cringeworthy version of You'll Never Walk Alone - not fine.

Please make it stop.

I love Michael Ball.

Things have reached such an extreme point on MN, I'm no longer certain this is sarcasm.

CatWithKittens · 18/04/2020 10:48

There really are some miserable people on MN at the moment - or perhaps all the time. Why on earth should anybody feel uncomfortable about a guard of honour - especially one found by the successor unit to Captain Moore's wartime regiment? Perhaps those suffering from such discomfort are also uncomfortable about the freedom which he and his generation preserved for all of us? He gave up 5 years of his youth and risked his life and is showing a similar desire to serve now. The miserable response from some people shames only them.

randomer · 18/04/2020 10:51

pudcat, Positivity can come in many forms. Acceptance is good. Clapping like a performing seal does not make me feel postitive, nor does the hideous Blitz Spirit thing which surrounds Tom and his walking.
It's only a matter of time before Piers Morgan and Dame Vera duet. perhaps Mary Berry,Cliff,an the odd person from Antiques Roadshow could do backing vocals.

bevelino · 18/04/2020 10:53

I would like to know how the money raised will be administered and by who?

PineappleDanish · 18/04/2020 10:56

@bevelino - money raised goes to an already established charity.

Too much, I have to keep muting my fkg tv, I dont want to hear Michael Ball warbling

DP resorted to shouting "Fuck off, Michael Ball" at the tv, he didn't have the remote handy.

We're not fans of anything musical theatre related here at Lakie Hall. Grin

HermanHermit · 18/04/2020 11:00

Would t worry about where the MBall money raised goes because there will be hardly any. After the costs of recording it and logistics of recording a choir during lockdown adding £££, there will be hardly any left over because it’ll be digital release only and each stream will earn 0.0004p or whatever. On that basis I’m afraid I do call glory hunting.

Dame Vera Lynn and Katherine Jenkins join forces for our NHS Appeal
by Cara Green | Apr 11, 2020

Their duet of ‘We’ll Meet Again’ has been re-released with 100% of Katherine Jenkins and Decca Records’ proceeds going to the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Urgent Appeal

HermanHermit · 18/04/2020 11:01

@randomer dame Vera has already “duetted” with k Jenkins on we’ll meet again apparently!

HermanHermit · 18/04/2020 11:02

Ah jinx!

yellowbluebell · 18/04/2020 11:02

Completely agree OP

Snugglepiggy · 18/04/2020 11:03

Well here's the thing.Find what gets you through this Zoom drinks with friends etc and ignore the stuff that annoys. And please remember there are an awful lot of that war time generation ,many living alone,
who want to see something other than endless Laura Kuensberg et al on TV.Donating 10 quid makes them feel they are doing something. Most if them hate not being able to participate as serving is in their DNA And when the rest go back to work will either be told to stay in or be too afraid to go out. And I like the Antiques roadshow ! so stop being so disparaging and ageist.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 18/04/2020 11:04

@WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo Cliff Richard hasn't risen yet so we're a long way off peaking Grin I sure would like to flatten that curve before it happens

But @welliesarefuntowear Did you know musical theatre star Michael Ball has twice the amount of blood in his body as that of a normal man? Absolutely true. It's what allows him to belt out those big notes on stage
WHAT??? Shock I cant get my head around that little bit of info Shock

Miraclescometrue · 18/04/2020 11:07

I didn’t mind the idea when I heard it on the news this morning and then they played it and it was really awful.

PineappleDanish · 18/04/2020 11:08

Also "you'll never walk alone" is maybe not the best message in socially distant times.

Perhaps re-record as "you'll never walk alone as long as you're more than 2 metres from me"?

I do understand that people want to feel they are doing something. But the best thing you can do is stick to the government guidelines as much as you can. We don't need "celebs" to keep our spirits up by recording cheesy songs. Or the BBC fawning all over them either.

I too need to hear more about Michael Ball's extra blood. How come he doesn't burst?

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 18/04/2020 11:08

I’m neither here or there about Michael Ball, it’s the song that I can’t abide...

randomer · 18/04/2020 11:08

Oh cool, something to look forward to Vera. Can't wait.

How come older people have " serving in their DNA" The ones who were at Greenham Common probably don't

What have conscripted soldiers who fought in WW2 and this crisis got in common? Nothing. It's all right wing garbage whipped up to disguise the true horror of a pandemic.

Chillicheese123 · 18/04/2020 11:10

The last thing the world needs is more Michael Ball, especially singing that god awful song

Chillicheese123 · 18/04/2020 11:11

Christ did I just see the words ‘Katherine Jenkins’ as well ?? Stop I wanna get off

CantSayJack · 18/04/2020 11:15

I honestly don’t get the hate towards Michael Ball, I’m not into his music but he comes across as a nice chap.

Frangipanini · 18/04/2020 11:15

I am not donating any money to this. I'm really glad the gentleman is doing it and think he is from a generation who is used to getting stuck in and getting on with it. I applaud him for that.

I have not donated any money to any causes yet. It's not that I don't think this is a good cause, I do. I just think that a bit further down the line we are going to see major repurcussions and I'm saving my donation until then. I foresee major issues with poverty in this country and if I am able to, this is when I will be getting my wallet out and am also happy to donate spare time I have.

I think people need to think before they start donating as to whether this is the best use of their money and whether this is just an exercise to make themselves feel better and like they are doing something. For example there is someone I follow online (a sleb) who is raising money for WHO. I don't understand why they need money? They are paid sh!tloads by rich governments. Why are British people donating money to this when we have families on the bones of their arses going to bare food banks.

billy1966 · 18/04/2020 11:15

What a mindset Captain Moore has.

To want to still be helping people at age 99.

A truly extraordinary man.

YangShanPo · 18/04/2020 11:16

I do think it's good when people do their own thing I'm enjoying all the little concerts online and things like that, but I do think some people are pushing themselves into Captain Tom's success. No need to campaign for a knighthood or whatever.

Chillicheese123 · 18/04/2020 11:21

Aw I don’t hate him, he does seem nice. He’s just my cup of tea at all
