Isn’t there a princess in Europe that’s now working as a HCA?

A queen somewhere in Asia cooking for the poor?

Harry and Meghan delivering meals?

Bet if Diana was here she’d be out doing everything in her power to help the ordinary folk 💪

Wolfgirrl · 22/04/2020 21:05

Also wasnt there reports of Harry being helped to cheat in his exams by a teacher? And it's all on their own merits you say, @derxa ?

Clavinova · 22/04/2020 21:22

I didn't know this about Prince Charles either;

"In 2013, Charles donated an unspecified sum of money to the British Red Cross Syria Crisis appeal and DEC Syria appeal, which is run by 14 British charities to help victims of the Syrian civil war." "According to The Guardian, It is believed that after turning 65 years old in 2013, Charles donated his state pension to an unnamed charity that supports elderly people. In March 2014, Charles arranged for five million measles-rubella vaccinations for children in the Philippines on the outbreak of measles in South-East Asia. According to Clarence House, Charles was affected by news of the damage caused by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. International Health Partners, of which he has been Patron since 2004, sent the vaccines, which are believed to protect five million children below the age of five from measles."

Why do you keep going on about the royals doing factory jobs or similar? You give the impression of someone used to a minimum wage job

What?
I mentioned it once.
Never suggested I did a minimum wage job.

If this is true, you worked at a national level and would have been on a six figure salary. That’s pretty pampered to most people

As pampered means 'indulged and spoiled', I can tell you that nobody in a public service job is any of these (at least not as a result of their job).
You get to the top through hard graft - not connections or by accident of birth. They are not jobs that come with bonuses, freebies or similar.

None of the royals have demonstrated being able to hold down a job full time - and more importantly - shown they can live on their own merits and without the public purse shelling out for some, if not all of their lifestyles.

StoneofDestiny · 22/04/2020 21:25

Bea and Eug were helped into their jobs through family connections.

derxa · 22/04/2020 21:33

Bea and Eug were helped into their jobs through family connections. And? There are thousands of upper class gels who have that advantage.

derxa · 22/04/2020 21:35

And it's all on their own merits you say, @derxa ? I didn't say that. There's an upper class network that you will never circumvent. And it's true all over the world.

derxa · 22/04/2020 21:37

@derxa if they are all supremely qualified super humans, They're not.

Wolfgirrl · 22/04/2020 21:46

@derxa

I dont care about other aristocrats. They dont get given 85 million of taxpayers money a year. A difference you seem utterly unable to comprehend.

StoneofDestiny · 22/04/2020 21:53

Derxa

And? There are thousands of upper class gels who have that advantage

Yep - but we are discussing the royals and I'm talking about how we subsidise their lifestyles.

They get away with leeching of tax payers until the press decide to expose their latest audacious scam. The Queen expecting us to pay for the Windsor Palace fire, Andrew and the Paedophile, William using the army helicopter to visit Kate on a 'date', Andrew using royal transport and security to fly to Scotland to play golf, Edward and Sophie and Fergie 'selling' royal connections, and the Kent's paying £69 rent per week for their huge apartment at Kensington Palace while we paid the rest and Eugenies hugely indulgent wedding we had to pay a fortune in security for! There is a lot more - thank God for the Press or it would be a regular free for all on the public purse with this lot.

StoneofDestiny · 22/04/2020 21:54

off not of

derxa · 22/04/2020 22:05

I dont care about other aristocrats. They dont get given 85 million of taxpayers money a year. A difference you seem utterly unable to comprehend. You're not following my argument. If we got rid of the monarchy then the former royals would become aristos like the German nobility. Heard of this chap?

Wolfgirrl · 22/04/2020 22:07

@derxa

I dont care if they become regular aristocrats. You seem to think the republican argument is a class war. It isn't. I couldn't care less if people are extremely posh, or extremely wealthy if they are not being givens millions of pounds of taxpayers money to do absolutely nothing of any value.

StoneofDestiny · 22/04/2020 22:15

I couldn't care less if people are extremely posh, or extremely wealthy if they are not being givens millions of pounds of taxpayers money to do absolutely nothing of any value

Exactly

StoneofDestiny · 22/04/2020 22:50

The super-rich have long held some profoundly distorted ideas about the world. They are more than averagely likely to believe their achievements are the product of their superior brains and hard work. They may believe the Selfish Gene rhetoric that those with the best genes rise to the top of the pond, and at the bottom is genetic sludge. They are oblivious to any evidence to the contrary. They have no idea that had they been born on a sink estate they too would have sunk.

This is partly because the super-rich are no longer exposed to data and experiences that contradict their worldview. Flitting between their various homes around the world, they know nothing of our lives. They have never, ever had to sit on the phone waiting for the next available customer support agent – “your call really matters to us” – to not fix their phone/internet/energy bill issue.

The Guardian

derxa · 22/04/2020 22:56

You seem to think the republican argument is a class war. It isn't. I couldn't care less if people are extremely posh, or extremely wealthy Pull the other one Grin What you mean is 'I resent other people being more privileged than me' Grin

Wolfgirrl · 22/04/2020 23:07

@derxa

No, I dont. Who are you to tell me what I think?

I think you understand our argument deep down, but are doing your best to kick it into the long grass with glib replies like that.

Wolfgirrl · 22/04/2020 23:11

@StoneofDestiny

Agreed. The funny thing is, none of the royals have achieved a career through their own merit. They have just been pushed through the ranks of the armed forces due to their status. Even with the very best education money can buy, their achievements are pretty minor compared to even the top students at state schools.

StoneofDestiny · 22/04/2020 23:26

Yes Wolfgirl, and if the royals had proper jobs they would have been short lived - Andrew would have been suspended or sacked for his misuse of funds, false expenses claims, and his involvement with a paedophile (he'd certainly have been taken in for questioning by now if he wasn't royal), William would have been sanctioned or dismissed for misuse of armed forces equipment (imagine an ordinary RAF bloke taking off in a helicopter to visit his girlfriend - without any consequences?). Philip would have been sacked for bringing his company into disrepute by for his numerous racist comments etc
Andrew is noted for having unexplained wealth - why no investigation - because he is royal

Wolfgirrl · 22/04/2020 23:45

Did the helicopter thing really happen? Shock how arrogant!

I expect derxa will be able to explain it away, 'B-b-but hes a royal!'

twirlycat77 · 23/04/2020 07:02

The royals have always been able to dip in and out of their army/navy careers as and when it suits....and all those medals they adorn themselves with...... undermines those that have actually earned them.

LaMarschallin · 23/04/2020 07:33
Smile
LaMarschallin · 23/04/2020 07:35

Bit unfair perhaps Blush

After all, Muttley did sometimes get his medals on merit.

Pelleas · 23/04/2020 07:51

Well, Kate has really stepped up to the plate this morning by releasing some photographs of Prince Louis:

In a series of images, Kate has captured her son - wearing a smart blue gingham-style shirt - grinning up at the camera while displaying his brightly painted palms and fingers. In one portrait, his coloured digits are raised to his cheeks with apparent excitement.

Gosh!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/04/2020 08:01

Got to admit I do love their Instagram v Reality post this morning Grin

What a cute kid.

Mamamia456 · 23/04/2020 08:17
