Isn’t there a princess in Europe that’s now working as a HCA?

A queen somewhere in Asia cooking for the poor?

Harry and Meghan delivering meals?

Bet if Diana was here she’d be out doing everything in her power to help the ordinary folk 💪

It's a piss take of mammoth proportions! No other RAF trainee would have been allowed any of that latitude. Seriously - it's unjustifiable on every level.

TBH and in my aged IMHO the basics of the sorties could well be justified, but the extremes of what the DM reports possibly not...I do know helicopter pilots do (or certainly used to) have to be practised in operating into confined spaces and fields, so I can see an imaginative authorising officer might sign off on the Middleton's paddock flight if it was in the operating area.

Land aways, sometimes with night stops, used to be part and parcel of advanced flying training..though the partying aspect as reported really doesn't sound great - at all..

However I am keenly aware that the past was another country..and add in conclusion that 'm not defending HRH at all - I think his behaviour, his lack of visibility, is less than impressive.... I'd expect more from a "leader".

Alsohuman · 23/04/2020 13:05

If you believe royal life is that of duty and unbearable press intrusion, why do you want that for Louis and the others?

You just can’t help yourself when it comes to putting words into others’ mouths, can you? Yet when someone else does it, they’re “vile”.

Clavinova · 23/04/2020 13:07

The Palace of Versailles doesn't actually contribute any revenue to the French economy then - or am I missing something?

"To make up for cuts in state funding, the renowned monument to royal grandeur resorts to opening a hotel."

No doubt you are planning to auction off the antiques in Buckingham Palace and turn it into a homeless shelter. Grin

Pelleas - But they're not photos of them celebrating his birthday for God's sake. I expect those photos brought a smile to people's faces when they saw them. Not every one's as miserable as you lot on here.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/04/2020 13:14

Pelleas, Harry said he wanted privacy, and yes it's obvious he doesn't. He has had serious criticism as a result of his lack of co-operation and arrogance.
The RF don't really have to do too much to keep people happy.
The Cambridge clan aren't arrogant for releasing the photos in the middle of the pandemic, it's the usual level of co-operation they show, nothing more.
Probably cheered up a few folk in the process.

Farmers Guide Magazine -

"A crucial part of helicopter flight training is landing in unfamiliar areas and, for this, the MOD relies heavily on the goodwill of landowners."

"the base is always looking for more fields to use for training; fields with obvious distinguishing features such as a building in one corner, or overhead cables nearby, or even odd-shaped fields which make them distinctive are particularly welcome. Confined landing areas are especially useful, where crews are forced to approach and depart more steeply than usual, as well as sloping fields up to approximately six degrees. “Where we have been offered unrestricted use, we will use a field up to a maximum of around 60 times per year, but sometimes we might land in the same field five or six times in succession to help get a trainee pilot into a routine.There are four main locations in the UK, close to the main bases, where the majority of helicopter training is carried out and these are Hampshire and Oxfordshire encompassing RAF stations, Benson and Odiham and Army Air Corps base Middle Wallop; Suffolk where Wattisham Airfield is located; Somerset – home to RNAS Yeovilton, and Shropshire at RAF Shawbury." "We are always keen to receive offers of use of land in these areas"

StoneofDestiny · 23/04/2020 13:26

Clavinova

😂😂 So where Willy landed his ‘copter to impress his girlfriend is in regular use for all RAF trainees?

I can tell you - other RAF folks were seriously pissed off with that nonsense- especially when equipment was in short supply elsewhere - including war zones.

Mamamia456 · 23/04/2020 13:26

Wolfgirrl - We've already established that having a royal family member as a charity patron, makes that charity more high profile which in turn raises more money. The queen alone has hundreds of requests a year from charities asking for her to be a patron. Speaks for itself.

MangoFeverDream · 23/04/2020 13:41

William gave up his only useful job knowing he wasnt even next in line to the throne

Didn’t he also take a ‘gap year’ after that which accomplished nothing of note? Laughable

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 14:26

@Alsohuman sorry I will rephrase.

Do you believe being a royal is a life of duty and press intrusion? And if so, are you comfortable with inflicting this on royal children before they are even born?

No doubt you wont actually answer, but I'll get a reply calling me bitter/miserable/vitriolic/whatever.

Alsohuman · 23/04/2020 14:33

Bit difficult to inflict duty and press intrusion on someone before they’re even born, wouldn’t you say?

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 15:01

@alsohuman

I was right! You split hairs rather than answer the question!

BurneyFanny · 23/04/2020 15:01

The irony is the queen herself shows that anyone can do the job, since she wasn’t born to it herself.

Alsohuman · 23/04/2020 15:03

In what way were you right @Wolfgirrl? I merely pointed out the impossibility of your statement.

Clavinova · 23/04/2020 15:06

wow I wasn't aware 7 years of work out of 40 years of life

He's not quite 38.

Actually, it's nearer 11 years of work/training - he started officer training in Jan 2006 - left air ambulance in summer 2017- (between RAF and air ambulance training in 2014 - "he enrolled in a vocational agricultural management course at Cambridge" - "to prepare for his eventual management of the Duchy of Cornwall.")

He certainly had a gap year when he was 18, before he went to university;

"After completing his studies at Eton, William took a gap year, during which he took part in British Army training exercises in Belize, worked on English dairy farms, visited Africa, and for ten weeks taught children in southern Chile."

BurneyFanny · 23/04/2020 15:15

Yeah right a proper life of toil. Not at all part time dossing.

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 15:33

@Clavinova

I know you really want to make up the numbers, but gap years dont count as 'work'.

Even 11 years (if that, he always seemed to have an extraordinary amount of annual leave) doesnt add up to 'full time work's since leaving university - you've got about 6 or 7 years missing there.

To go back to an earlier point, arent they looking for farm volunteers to help in the pandemic? If wills has worked on a dairy farm before isnt he the perfect candidate? Or was it fine then but impossible now for some reason?

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 15:34

@Mamamia456

And we have already established an awful lot of celebrities are charity patrons as well. Shall we make them all royal?

Diyhaircutgonewrong · 23/04/2020 15:49

If wills has worked on a dairy farm before isnt he the perfect candidate? Or was it fine then but impossible now for some reason?

Impossible. mamamia will be no doubt coming along shortly to point out that he is 'royal'. Grin

Mamamia456 · 23/04/2020 15:50

Wolfgirrl - What on earth are you going on about now, you need to go and have a walk, clear that cotton wool out of your head.

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 15:55

@Diyhaircutgonewrong it's better than that, apparently a walk in the fresh air will answer my question Grin anything but a direct answer eh!

derxa · 23/04/2020 16:13

To go back to an earlier point, arent they looking for farm volunteers to help in the pandemic? If wills has worked on a dairy farm before isnt he the perfect candidate? Or was it fine then but impossible now for some reason? What a load of old nonsense. Farmers don't need anyone to milk cows. In fact farmers are pouring milk down the drain.
