Isn’t there a princess in Europe that’s now working as a HCA?

A queen somewhere in Asia cooking for the poor?

Harry and Meghan delivering meals?

Bet if Diana was here she’d be out doing everything in her power to help the ordinary folk 💪

I suspect that the royal couple are holed up in their private estate and are continuing to do video links to various charities.
They are also probably discussing his friendship with that lady.
As they live in a gilded cage, paid for by the taxpayer, I don’t think that they’ll be suffering too much.
Bringing Diana into this is irrelevant and a bit sad.

twirlycat77 · 18/04/2020 23:31

Maybe donate a huge chunk of money

I very much suspect they do, on the quiet

If they did you can be sure it’d be made known. Their PR wouldn’t let it pass us by. It has never been in their nature to part with big chunks of money, they like to take it and hoard it. Why would they keep quiet about donations, no one else does. They’ve always told us before about donations to something. Its what people want to hear......As for the rest of the world loving them, do you really think so. I should imagine they’re seen as a bit of an oddity, an over privileged family of toffs there by accident of birth. How embarrassing that our country in the 21st century is represented by an unelected “queen”.

Iflyaway · 18/04/2020 23:41

tourism are big factors

Well, that one fucked off big time, eh?

Lifeisabeach09 · 19/04/2020 00:50

"a couple who DO lots for the british economy and are home schooling three children."

Another hilarious comment.

Please elaborate on what they do for the British economy. Also, as PP have pointed out, they have live-in nannies. Do you really think they are homeschooling their children themselves?

To the PP who said that the Cambridges' 'have a good marriage,' wasn't it in many foreign tabloids that W had an affair with a family friend? Obviously one doesn't know what is fact and what is fiction but it was widely reported, just not here.

If only in name alone, as the British ruling family, they really should lead and inspire. This pandemic has shown what little they do and how ineffectual they are. The RF are an increasingly obsolete and irrelevant institution.

I suspect they don’t tell their PR team all of their business.

twirlycat77 · 19/04/2020 08:58

So you think they’ve donated millions without telling us. Why wouldn’t they tell us, it would make people happy to hear that surely?

twirlycat77 · 19/04/2020 09:02

And why would just this one be a secret donation. Not the case in the past.

queenofarles · 19/04/2020 09:50

I don’t think royals donate their actual money to charities.
I think someone mentioned on a previous thread that it might cause criticism like donation is so little
Or why donate to this charity and not the other?

Although Camilla donated to Australian bush fires victims and to a charity that works with young cancer patients. That’s just about the only member I’ve read that donated money to charities,

But we really are in extraordinary circumstances, a kin to war , I think Will and Kate need to do something a bit more, zoom meeting won’t do it,

they could buy fruit veg from local farmers and donate it . They are in Norwich after all!

Or as someone mentioned Kate could cook or even order food from local Food to go shops and send to NHS workers.

Volunteer to deliver food to elderly.

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 19/04/2020 09:56

At least W&K aren't telling us that things are "better than we are led to believe through certain corners of the media" as is the artist formely known as Prince Harry in his podcast. I know he's not very bright but the stupid can influence other stupid people and he needs to STFU and focus on his sunburn.

twirlycat77 · 19/04/2020 10:39

I think at times like this they should be making huge donations....

They’ve got millions off the taxpayers backs, time to pay something back, and it wouldn’t cause criticism as in why donate to this or why donate to that. It would be welcomed. This is unprecedented, we don’t want to hear their meaningless words. They need to put their money where their ill informed mouths are.

LaurieMarlow · 19/04/2020 10:44

Why not cancel / severely cut the sovereign grant this year? There will be so much less entertaining/socialising!

Looks like they’ll be quids in by the end of this Hmm

twirlycat77 · 19/04/2020 10:53

Donating to charities isn’t the same as donating to disasters. They are failing the people. But it’s not just the money it’s everything. They’re proving how useless to us they actually are.

lyralalala · 19/04/2020 11:00

Why not cancel / severely cut the sovereign grant this year? There will be so much less entertaining/socialising!

It’s hardly the time to be getting into conversation with the government about their potential plans after this.

The Grant year runs April-March so there’s plenty of time to discuss any excesses once the government has a bit of time on their hands

It would be PR suicide, and absolutely ridiculous, to be discussing that right now

CathyorClaire · 19/04/2020 11:19

It would be PR suicide

Nothing new there.

LaurieMarlow · 19/04/2020 11:32

I think it would be a PR triumph myself.

But ‘giving back’ dosh has never been a priority for them. So nothing new there either.

lyralalala · 19/04/2020 11:36

Distracting the government by wanting to talk about money in the middle of a pandemic?

It would be a PR disaster as certain sections of the media would jump on it, rightly imo, as being completely ridiculous timing.

The financial year only started on April 1st. Any “we don’t need so much as we’ll not be entertaining” announcements would leave to “Britain shut for a year!” headlines.

Giving back any of the Buckingham Palace renovation money would spark a panic that building sites would be closed long term.

If there’s money left over at the end of the year then it should be sent somewhere to do some good, but absolutely no government time should be spent on discussing that right now imo. Any government minister with time for that needs do take a look at themselves

LaurieMarlow · 19/04/2020 11:42

Okay so they say

...there will be no travel or entertaining for the foreseeable, so we think it’s right to reduce the SG by 25% for the coming year. It can go to the NHS...

I suspect the government could find the resource to deal with the manpower that would take and would not find it a terrible ‘distraction’ Grin

lyralalala · 19/04/2020 11:45

The royals don’t get to decide that though. They’d have to find out what the government have planned after this?

Boris might be planning the state dinner of all state dinners with all and sundry.

To bother the Pm and the foreign secretary about their plans now would be ridiculous when it can be done once the pandemic passes

I don’t even like the royals, but now would be a stupid time to get into that

LaurieMarlow · 19/04/2020 11:46

would be ridiculous when it can be done once the pandemic passes

But we ALL KNOW it won’t be. Wink

LaurieMarlow · 19/04/2020 11:47

Boris might be planning the state dinner of all state dinners with all and sundry.

Big state dinners will categorically not be taking place in the next 2/3 months though. Anyone with a modicum of sense could see that.

lyralalala · 19/04/2020 11:49

Them not happening in the next 2/3 months doesn’t mean they won’t happen after though.

Generally they are spread out. If the government decide to wine and dine people in quick succession then the money will be spent on the same shit, just in a different timescale.

The government themselves won’t know their plans yet.

Wolfgirrl · 19/04/2020 11:50

Looks like the old 'now isnt the time' excuse is being trotted out now...

There really wouldn't be much to discuss. A short statement to say they will be renouncing next year's grant and want it to go to x charity, hopefully something coronavirus related. It wouldn't have to be dealt with until nearer the time.

What is a PR disaster is what they are doing at the moment - nothing, while still keeping the money.

I cant believe the royalist argument has now got so ridiculous they're trying to make out a very large donation would be worse PR than hiding in a mansion 🙄

LaurieMarlow · 19/04/2020 11:51

i cant believe the royalist argument has now got so ridiculous they're trying to make out a very large donation would be worse PR than hiding in a mansion

You couldn’t make it up Grin

lyralalala · 19/04/2020 11:52

I’m not a royalist. I just think them mithering the foreign office about plans right now would be absolutely ridiculous

lyralalala · 19/04/2020 11:53

Making a donation from their own money would be a whole different thing...
