Isn’t there a princess in Europe that’s now working as a HCA?

A queen somewhere in Asia cooking for the poor?

Harry and Meghan delivering meals?

Bet if Diana was here she’d be out doing everything in her power to help the ordinary folk 💪

Leaving aside any personal feelings I have on the role of a monarchy in todays society I'm aware that William is doing more than is making the main stream media and headlines right now.

In a town local to me, he has just made a 'virtual' visit by video to meet and thank local volunteers supporting a local charity. A tiny town in Yorkshire, not glamorous or high profile, the sort that rarely gets any attention. This event was hugely well received across the community, local social media groups I am on, on local radio and in the weekly local paper - who got a desperately needed boost in sales for once.

Whilst, of course, not everyone was enthusiastic about it, and there were many people being vocal with views and comments echoed on this thread, many many others did get a morale boost from it. The charity got exposure and immediate additional support from locals as a result, and the volunteers in the charity were pleased as punch and clearly felt valued for their efforts.

Apparently these virtual visits are happening across the country right now.

I think he is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

Thescrewinthetuna · 18/04/2020 10:02

They’re useless at the best of times

Rubyupbeat · 18/04/2020 10:07

Harry and Meghan delivering food, what having cooked it and driving themselves there, to 6 addresses, hmmmm....nice but of self promotion....but, oops, don't dis Megs, otherwise you are being racist........ffs

Carbosug · 18/04/2020 10:11

@LaurieMarlow of course you are. I have opinions on them myself. But I think Irish people living in Ireland can't really talk about what 'we' did or didn't get from the RF during the pandemic, as we're not entitled to the slightest thing from them.
Just my opinion but I'd find it strange if a British person who had lived in Ireland but now returned home started talking about what 'we' should be getting from Michael D. Higgins.

LaurieMarlow · 18/04/2020 10:16

I have huge amount of family in the UK if that helps you any Wink

LaurieMarlow · 18/04/2020 10:17

But if MN had an edit button I would happily change the word ‘we’ to ‘you’ for the sake of greater accuracy and keeping the peace.

That book is a must-read, especially for the forelock tuggers.

Dieu · 18/04/2020 10:26

Agree. They're all so bloody pointless, and never more so than now.

Gwynfluff · 18/04/2020 10:28

So the Nannies not with them in isolation then? Or any of their other staff?

Pinkarsedfly · 18/04/2020 10:29

Haven’t RTFT, but I have to admit I raised an eyebrow when William mentioned that after this is over we should return to valuing what’s really important, rather than the materialism that has taken over.

Looking forward to the mother of all yard sales at each of his massive houses, then...

Mummyshark2019 · 18/04/2020 10:34

I must say, I found their interview yesterday to be a bit odd. It was really superfluous to requirements and saw no point to it. But hey ho....

Pelleas · 18/04/2020 10:35

What are they doing? Well, yesterday they shared their groundbreaking insight that the Coronavirus pandemic is stressful, so we should look after our mental health.

Thanks for letting us know!

Now, Mr and Mrs Cambridge, can you answer this question - where is it bears usually shit?

lockitdown · 18/04/2020 10:39

It seems like every second poster on MN is an NHS worker at the moment. Massively more than before anyone heard of coronavirus

That's because we have all been pressured asked to go back

Noodlenosefraggle · 18/04/2020 10:46

Re homeschooling g arent their children 6 4 and 2? What are they doing? Some spellings and reading? They hardly have to worry about their kids not getting a job if they fall behind at school or rationing the computer, or trying to do their own 'job' while the kids are running around, do they?

Reginabambina · 18/04/2020 10:49

Well the only useful thing they’re really qualified is air ambulancing. I’m not sure about the whole keeping him safe because he’s an heir argument goes, he’s produced a few heirs himself so it doesn’t matter much. Maybe he just isn’t doing because he has children and doesn’t want to take the risk for that reason? They could go work in a supermarket but I doubt Tesco’s would want them given the inconvenience it would cause.

LaurieMarlow · 18/04/2020 10:53

There really are lots of things they could be doing from their own home.

But they CBA.

Wolfgirrl · 18/04/2020 10:58

Why is everyone on this thread holding them to the same standard of expectation as Lisa and David over the road?

They're our future HEAD OF STATE! This should be a brilliant leadership opportunity for them, but instead they're hiding away enjoying a swimming pool and tennis courts with their kids.

Why? Because they can. There is no process of holding them to account. Ah well at least Kate has nice hair Hmm

SoupDragon · 18/04/2020 11:04

There really are lots of things they could be doing from their own home.

Like...?

Wolfgirrl · 18/04/2020 11:04

And before anyone leaps on the 'but what do you expect them to do' 'security nightmare' 'damned if they do damned if they dont' lines, here is a list of practical things they can do:

  1. Charles could donate food from the Duchy of Cornwall to food banks
  2. William could rejoin air ambulance (if you are inclined to reply some story about his licence, ask yourself why he quit after 2 years when his training cost hundreds of thousands. To sit in his stately home when a pandemic hits?)
  3. The Queen could pass over next year's Sovereign Grant. We are headed for the worst recession in 100 years, surely that's the least she can do for her people?
  4. They could announce that once the pandemic is over, they are going to open a few of their castles for tours for the relief fund. Obviously when it is safe to do so
  5. Kate could batch cook meals for local NHS workers. I'm sure she has a very large kitchen and no end of time on her hands. And I dont mean just one afternoon but as a regular commitment

There is just a few, I'm sure there are many more.

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 11:05

Re homeschooling g arent their children 6 4 and 2? What are they doing? Some spellings and reading?

knowing that their children are in a very good private school, they don't actually have to do anything... everything is provided by the school.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 18/04/2020 11:07

Not a lot. As per entirely usual.

FAQs · 18/04/2020 11:07

Sophie seems to be doing a fair bit to help, she tends to go largely unnoticed.

CSIblonde · 18/04/2020 11:08

They're skyping people & being jolly, roughly once a week. It's tough being a Royal.

derxa · 18/04/2020 11:09

That book is a must-read, especially for the forelock tuggers. I'm a forelock tugger. I'm enjoying Kate and William's video appearances. Also Meghan and Harry's pap pics from LA. It's all highly entertaining.
What's not entertaining are the desperate celebs promoting their wares e.g Jake Quickenden Confused
