Isn’t there a princess in Europe that’s now working as a HCA?

A queen somewhere in Asia cooking for the poor?

Harry and Meghan delivering meals?

Bet if Diana was here she’d be out doing everything in her power to help the ordinary folk 💪

"I was under the impression that Kate and Wills were still working,"

They were the least working royals. I'd say as soon as PPE is, in supply they should be out and about, but would you want to be in hospital and they turn up?

Cnoc · 18/04/2020 09:04

Maybe look up how much they actually bring to the country in tourism etc before spouting how much they cost the taxpayers

Maybe look up how many tourists Versailles attracts before deciding that a living RF is necessary to bring in income.

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 09:12

In that situation, we would be looking at the prospect of Prince George, who is KS1 age, becoming King and needing a regent.

It's 2020.. it would make no difference whatsoever if George was King (and Charlotte the regent GrinGrinGrin )

Actually, it might boost tourism because people would find George cute. He could come and wave with his mini crown twice a year, and live a "normal" uber-privileged life adapted to his own age the rest of the year.

If nothing else, the current crisis proves how archaic and useless the monarchy is. It was quite clear around Brexit already, but the pandemic can't make it more obvious.

Maybe something good will actually come out of this mess.

Barbararara · 18/04/2020 09:15

I’m just glad they’re not in my country anymore blithely joking about spreading Coronavirus while shaking hands. Fuckwits.

Duvetday8 · 18/04/2020 09:19

Nothing, like the always do. This crisis has really shown that once the queen is gone monarchy should be abolished

Nanny0gg · 18/04/2020 09:24

How do you know they haven’t donated money to help?

Apparently they have donated to Captain Tom's fund.

And strangely enough, the Royals don't always publicise everything they do.

LaMarschallin · 18/04/2020 09:24

Arietty

Who would be the regent? Kate? Harry? Kate & Harry jointly? It would be the most unimaginable mess and a very unstable situation. I’m not a monarchist but we do live in a monarchy and we really don’t want a scenario like that.

I agree with OneandTwenty - it wouldn't matter in the slightest. It's the prime minister that makes decisions; I know we're told that the queen studies the contents of her red boxes, but why?
She's supposed to stay politically neutral. And certainly stayed that way during Brexit.

All the regent would have to do would be to make sure the putative king George didn't run while holding the scissors with which he was going to some ribbon somewhere.

PS OneandTwenty: is your name from the poem (Houseman?) "When I was one-and-twenty"? It's one of the poems I know by heart.

LaMarschallin · 18/04/2020 09:27

"going to cut some ribbon" etc

Maybe I should fork out for that promised "Edit" button...?

Nah.

browneyedgirl2018 · 18/04/2020 09:30

The thing is, these sorts of questions are pointless. He's a future king - obviously, he won't be permitted to do certain things, even if he wanted to.

Also, how do you know that he hasn't done something but just hasn't publicised it? Perhaps he's donated money. I'm sure there are lots of people who donate secretly.

The way I see it, it's not his fault he was born into that family, so why be angry with him for the privileges he has. Yes, he could do a lot with those privileges, but how do you know that he isn't?

As for giving one of their properties over to the NHS - again, how do you know they didn't offer? Secondly, which property do you think would be suitable?

How do you know that he 'ran off' to his second home? Maybe he wasn't given a choice.

twirlycat77 · 18/04/2020 09:34

Wasn’t Harry seen coughing into his hand then shook hands with someone?

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 09:34

LaMarschallin
actually it is! Smile

I have to confess not for any deep reason, but that verse stayed in my mind...

TheGirlFromStoryville · 18/04/2020 09:37

Surely this pandemic has shown us that the RF are very expensive ornaments that the country does not need?

The true cost of the Royals (including their security estimates) is apparently around £300mn annually. I'd much sooner that cash was diverted to the NHS, or cancer research, or children's charities, etc.

I've mentioned it before, but please read 'And what do you do?' by Norman Baker. Truly jaw dropping stuff about our hardworking, altruistic, RF. Clue - they're very far from it.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 18/04/2020 09:40

Also - when the Royals count a phone call as work (as per the Court Circular) I'm sure if they had made a large donation it would be discreetly publicised / leaked.

CallMeRachel · 18/04/2020 09:42

You obviously have no respect for the british monarchy. Do you rant about all the other people living off tax payers money? Cos there's plenty of them? Or the floodgates being open at our crap borders for free nhs treatment for Covid? No?
Thought not.

Go back to your nhs job, I'm fairly sure you're not a nurse. If you're a cleaner or laundry assistant there's no shame in that but don't divert your inner unhappiness onto a couple who DO lots for the british economy and are home schooling three children.

Calling the future king Willy makes you look like a petulant tool by the way Biscuit

browneyedgirl2018 · 18/04/2020 09:44

But how can you be sure? You just can't. Because it is possible that someone might not want to disclose donations, even if other information is 'leaked'.

browneyedgirl2018 · 18/04/2020 09:45

That was to TheGirlFromStoryville.

LaurieMarlow · 18/04/2020 09:45

They’re doing fuck all and it’s a disgrace.

This was an obvious time for Wills to step up. And what did we get? A few fucking phone calls while enjoying the world’s best lockdown experience at the tax payers expense.

Carbosug · 18/04/2020 09:49

I thought you lived in Ireland @LaurieMarlow.

LaurieMarlow · 18/04/2020 09:50

You obviously have no respect for the british monarchy.

What’s to respect? An unremarkable family that hoover up money and power. Now the Queen, on a personal level, has admirable qualities, yes. But the rest of them, give me a break.

and are home schooling three children.

We’re all doing that!!!

The difference is we’re not doing it on a lovely country estate, amply supported by staff. We’re doing it in cramped flats/houses, desperately trying to keep businesses and jobs afloat at the same time, worried about our economic future on top of everything else.

LaurieMarlow · 18/04/2020 09:51

I thought you lived in Ireland

I do. But I’ve lived three quarters of my life in the UK. Am I not allowed an opinion?

fuckinghellthisshit · 18/04/2020 09:51

They’re total fuck wits and can’t do anything - why on earth work anyone want them in a hospital? It’d be dangerous. I wish celebrities of all sorts would shut the fuck up completely. Seeing them all so desperate for attention is cringeworthy and Harry and Megan are the worst!

twirlycat77 · 18/04/2020 09:53

You obviously have no respect for the british monarchy. Do you rant about all the other people living off tax payers money? Cos there’s plenty of them.

Unless there’s another family you can think of that get £360 million thrown at them every year I doubt it. But as for respect for the royal family? Nah not a drop. Nothing to respect.

TheWordmeister · 18/04/2020 09:54

You obviously have no respect for the british monarchy.

What makes them worthy of respect? The RF is an anachronism we don’t need.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 18/04/2020 09:56

CallMeRachel

Why do you respect the Royal family?
Do you respect Prince Andrew?

Not goady but I'm genuinely interested.

twirlycat77 · 18/04/2020 09:56

I've mentioned it before, but please read 'And what do you do?' by Norman Baker. Truly jaw dropping stuff about our hardworking, altruistic, RF. Clue - they're very far from it.

Should be compulsory reading for all royalists. Grin think they’d change their opinion then.
