Is it normal to not flush the loo at night?

So DH won't flush the loo over night if it's just a wee, he says it's because he grew up in the south east and they regularly had droughts so don't flush, I think it's absolutely disgusting. Lately I've only been using the downstairs loo (as I'm too busy with DD to bother checking he's flushed the loo) so will often only go in to the upstairs bathroom in the early evening at bath time and find it unflushed and it stinks. Do other men/people do this?

if you have ever had the misfortune to find yourself in a school toilet, you would know that yes, urine stinks!

amazedmummy · 18/04/2020 14:10

We don't usually use the loo over night. If we do it's not flushed and we don't even put the light on because it turns the fan on.

AvonBarksdale99 · 18/04/2020 14:12

I’d imagine the people who have stinking, staining urine are literally only drinking coffee, tea, wine and beer and certainly not the 2+ litres of water you’re supposed to drink a day (or even any)

Mamadothehump · 18/04/2020 14:14

No overnight flushing here 🤷‍♀️

NeedAUsernameGenerator · 18/04/2020 14:14

Our plumbing system is extremely loud so we don't flush during the night.

could not be more true in a primary school Grin

Livingoncake · 18/04/2020 14:23

Sorry, but I think it's feral not to flush. It's not even so much the smell, it's the fact it's urine. I don't want it hanging around longer than it needs to.

DappledThings · 18/04/2020 14:24

Feral! That's quite a hilarious overreaction.

Iwouldbecomplex · 18/04/2020 14:51

No flushing at night for us, unless I'm on my period - I find the thought of leaving that in the toilet disgusting. Save water / reduce noise. Toilet gets flushed first thing in the morning and I also bleach it once a day so no stain issues.

DollyDoneMore · 18/04/2020 14:53

We don’t have stinking, staining urine. We just have standards.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 18/04/2020 14:54

Not if it will disturb someone else

5zeds · 18/04/2020 14:58

Blood is disgusting but pee/poo notHmm???

That said, I flush every time. Leave the loo as you’d like to find it, seems civilised to me.

InfiniteCurve · 18/04/2020 15:06

What exactly do people think will happen if urine is left sitting in the toilet overnight? The receptacle designed to contain it? Grin
Maybe it will smell a bit - but certainly not like a public loo where it gets into weird places and is there for longer.(Ick)
Then you flush it and any smell will go....

5zeds · 18/04/2020 15:09

I really doubt anyone is ignorant to what overnighted urine smells like in their own toilet. Some people are ok with it, some not.

DollyDoneMore · 18/04/2020 15:12

What exactly do people think will happen if a toilet is flushed overnight? The mechanism designed to get rid of urine? grin

skybluee · 18/04/2020 15:12

To all of the people saying it's disgusting etc:

There is more bacteria in tap water than there is in urine.

Maybe get your facts straight before you start criticising other people. And stop wasting water too. What's disgusting is your wasteful attitude...

WaktiWapnasi · 18/04/2020 15:13

We don't flush wees at night, too noisy. It gets flushed first thing and bleached.

Lolwhat · 18/04/2020 15:14

Always flush🤢🤢

beautifully put.

It’s not dangerous. It’s just grim. Someone else’s rancid piss festering for hours in the toilet bowl.

I could leave my dirty underwear in a pile by the washing machine for a few days until it’s ready to wash. It wouldn’t be unhealthy, it’d just be grim

june2007 · 18/04/2020 15:25

we are priviledged to have tolets in our hoe that flush. Any one seen East is East. Based in the 70,s in a working class Bradford estate. The loo was in the garden and they had buckets in the houses. I am sure many homes were like that.

Jeleste · 18/04/2020 15:25

I always flush. My kids dont! And you're right, it stinks in the morning!

ohthepigeons · 18/04/2020 15:29

Always used to flush when used main bathroom but now we have an en-suite I don't as I don't want to wake dh and vice versa.

We do flush as soon as we get up though and would not leave it in the day.

minipie · 18/04/2020 15:34

No we don’t flush at night, if it’s just wee. I’m much more bothered about being woken at night than I am about a bit of few-hours-old wee.

If we were both very deep sleepers I guess we would flush but we’re not. Also our loo backs onto our neighbours’ bedroom.

OneandTwenty · 18/04/2020 15:42

That's a great business idea! bring back outdoor toilet, with the odd bucket to flush once every 12 hours. There's a fortune to be made here.
