Is it normal to not flush the loo at night?

So DH won't flush the loo over night if it's just a wee, he says it's because he grew up in the south east and they regularly had droughts so don't flush, I think it's absolutely disgusting. Lately I've only been using the downstairs loo (as I'm too busy with DD to bother checking he's flushed the loo) so will often only go in to the upstairs bathroom in the early evening at bath time and find it unflushed and it stinks. Do other men/people do this?

Flush every time here! I wouldn't want to savour the aroma of my DH's stagnant pee...

I don’t always flush for wee. I have a septic tank so less i flush the better😂. Poo, well that has to go!

AvonBarksdale99 · 18/04/2020 09:13

There are much worse smells in a bathroom than some pale, fully hydrated urine which has been left sitting in water for a few hours. God knows what the hand-wringing brigade do about those?!

BadLad · 18/04/2020 09:14

Always flush.

Wonder how much overlap there is between the people who always flush and the people who shower every day.

Runmybathforme · 18/04/2020 09:24

We didn’t flush when the kids were small, but do now. Pretty disgusting not to. Loo has a facility for a small flush so don’t use so much water.

Strugglingtodomybest · 18/04/2020 09:26

We never flush at night, and I was brought up to not flush at night. Complete waste of water.

meow1989 · 18/04/2020 09:28

Blimey theres some sensitive noses on here! We dont flush at night if it's just a wee, no smell in the morning and no toilet bowl staining. Might also be worth pointing out that urine is sterile so not really that disgusting. If you're well hydrated can't see the issue.

Small flush or not it's still wasted water.

SciFiScream · 18/04/2020 09:38

As I said before we don't flush overnight. It hasn't affected the smell of clean look of the loo

For those saying I must be nose blind...I'm not in fact my DH complains about my "sensitive nose"!

If you haven't had to pee over night then the very first pee of the day can be stinky but as everyone is awake that gets flushed instantly.

This is going to shock you...sometimes (often, I'm sure they do it deliberately) my kids need to pee when I do during the day...so we don't flush until we've all been! Shock horror. ShockShock

Mind you to balance that out I've trained everyone to do "courtesy flushes" if they have a stinky poo GrinGrin as the sooner that gets flushed the better!

Lid always down until loo needed and down to flush.

cushioncovers · 18/04/2020 09:44

*Always flush.

What do you mean?

Ontheboardwalk · 18/04/2020 09:45

Flushed one night when staying at a friends mid terraced house, the noise was shocking. I'm sure the water went through every house to get to her toilet. I didn’t do that again

Those not flushing during the day is a bit rank. I know not in current times but what if family or friends popped round and needed the loo. Would you have to run upstairs to clean it?

If you’re worried about wasting water get one of these in your cistern

CookPassBabtridge · 18/04/2020 09:54

Nope why would we make flushing noises in the dead of night? The lid is closed so the wee smell doesn't travel 🤷🏻‍♀️

CookPassBabtridge · 18/04/2020 09:56

And I shower every day Hmm @badlad

BadLad · 18/04/2020 10:08

What do you mean?

Another very divisive and frequently recurring topic on here is whether or not it's disgusting if one doesn't shower every day.

I was wondering how much overlap there is of the people who wouldn't dream of not flushing their piss and those who always shower every day.

VerbenaGirl · 18/04/2020 10:11

We don’t flush wee at night. Fortunately none of us have particularly stinky wee!

Aragog · 18/04/2020 10:13

We don't if it's just for a week, not overnight. But it's our en suite we use, it's just me and Dh who use it and obviously the flushing would be a lot louder for the other person. It doesn't smell, no one can 'see' as we use the bathroom in the dark and the kid is always closed. Whoever goes in first thing in the morning flushes.

Main bathroom is normally just dd and she flushes it whenever she uses it day or night ass she's true only one it would disturb.

cushioncovers · 18/04/2020 10:20

Ah ok badLad I see.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/04/2020 10:22

I never flush overnight. I grew up in a country with regular and severe water shortages and it wouldn't occur to most people to flush every single time.
I'd be curious to know how many of the non-flushers are from South Africa, Australia or other places where 'save water' has been drilled in since childhood.

Widowodiw · 18/04/2020 10:29

Well if you have money to flush down the loo flush, if you don’t then don’t. We don’t flush wees night or day. Obviously if there’s been a few in the day then it will get a routine flush but not for everyone.

catlovingdoctor · 18/04/2020 10:42

Always flush. Revolting to leave anything !

Mummyshark2019 · 18/04/2020 10:44

We flush after every use regardless of the time of day.

brendansbuddy · 18/04/2020 10:45

Don't flush at night to save water and noise. Nor in the day if a wee. Not a problem, eco use of water, good to train kids to do this.

whatisforteamum · 18/04/2020 10:48

We got in the habit of not flushing a wee in the night when we had small dcs as they would wake. Our house doesn't smell and we bath daily at least once.It was a noise issue for us.

Greenpop21 · 18/04/2020 10:48

Not at night because it wakes everyone up.

lilgreen · 18/04/2020 10:52

I think some of you might need a trip to the gp if your wee is so smelly and staining. Drink more water fgs!
