Music in the Garden

Gruffalomom · 15/04/2020 17:40

We live in on a relatively modern estate so we all have small gardens backing on to each other.

My DH likes to play music from a speaker when using our garden.

He doesn't have it booming but enough that it is definately audible to the neighbours.

It really bugs me as I feel like we are forcing our music taste on everyone and spoiling their enjoyment of our gardens.

We have several neighbours who play music in the garden and I find it annoying (but not enough that I would ever raise it with them!)

Aibu to think he's not being as considerate as he could be?

I hate it when people force their music on me. It is just so selfish. I get really anxious about it, kind of prickly.

DollyDoneMore · 15/04/2020 18:42

Fucking selfish.

No-one wants to hear your music.

ohmysoul · 15/04/2020 18:42

Our neighbours 2 doors down did this last week. I shouted over the fence that their music was too loud and they needed to turn it down. They apologised and did. Maybe it'll take someone else telling him.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 15/04/2020 18:44

I missed that threat I'mbored thanks. That'll give me something to show him!

1 in 3 ish of those that voted on that thread said it wasn’t unreasonable for kids to play or play music. And I think threads like that one and this attract a lot of people who are extreme about things like this. Most of the neighbours we’ve had play music in the garden, not loud though.

DaphneFanshaw · 15/04/2020 18:45

I don't mind it at all.
Yesterday we were outside reading and I could hear my neighbour on one side listening to the radio and on the other we had Bob Marley.
I know it's the stuff of nightmares on MN, along with trampolines and toilet brushes but I don't know anyone in RL who is all that bothered.

DaphneFanshaw · 15/04/2020 18:46

Yy every life, most people who play music in the garden or who aren't all that bothered will just ignore the thread because they can't be bothered with the bun fight.

Davespecifico · 15/04/2020 18:50

I really dislike neighbours playing music.
It may be that he’s right and no one is bothered, but he can’t know that for certain.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 15/04/2020 18:50

If it's just audible, as in, noise that's carried on the wind and that blends in with all the other sounds of sunny days and not actually booming then I really don't see a problem with it. It's no more intrusive than someone talking at a normal, conversational level.

It's so so so selfish. I mean ANY music at an audible volume. I'm sick to the back teeth of my selfish twats of neighbours who do this. It's not massively loud but as they are directly next door to me I bear the brunt of it. I fucking hate R&B as well 😡 Everybody wants to enjoy their garden so why does one persons enjoyment trump everybody else's???

opticaldelusion · 15/04/2020 18:59

for a few hours is ok

Dear God, no. Imagine how long those hours would feel. Don't do it AT ALL. Foisting your musical choices on other people is rude and inconsiderate. And unnecessary.

FishOnPillows · 15/04/2020 19:01

I loathe it when my neighbours play music in their garden. Our gardens are all relatively small and back onto each other, and when they play music it just seems so damn invasive and claustrophobic. I can’t go in the garden when they’re playing music.

DaphneFanshaw · 15/04/2020 19:01

No, of course I haven't done a bloody poo.
Confused
I do talk to my friends about petty gripes though, a lot of my friends are on here and we have chatted about people who get wound up over fairy lights and trampolines.
I honestly think that people who aren't all that bothered will just scroll on by.

ScarfLadysBag · 15/04/2020 19:03

No, of course I haven't done a bloody poo.

GrinGrinGrinGrin

I had to scroll up to work out what that was meant to be

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 15/04/2020 19:03

Have you done a poll? I would put big money on the majority of people being quite pissed off with unwanted music in their gardens.

Well there’s a poll on the other thread where 1 in 3 think it’s fine. And as I mentioned in a previous post, I do think these threads attract the people who are at the extreme end of hating any noise that’s not birds. I base my opinion on having only ever come across - neighbour who complained, most others play music themselves. The neighbour who complained, had a problem with everything and fell out with lots of people. She expected silence.

opticaldelusion · 15/04/2020 19:03

I don't know anyone in RL who is all that bothered

Have you asked them all? Perhaps they're just putting up with it for fear of encountering people who don't take them seriously.

LakieLady · 15/04/2020 19:03

@boredboredboredboredbored, I hate R&B too.

I might be tempted to retaliate with The Ring of the Nibelung. All 15 hours of it.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 15/04/2020 19:04

1 neighbour

opticaldelusion · 15/04/2020 19:04

I read that thread and the vast majority said music wasn't ok. I suspect the one in three are referring to children playing. Not the music.

DaphneFanshaw · 15/04/2020 19:04

Grin scarf, bloody auto correct

NiteFlights · 15/04/2020 19:05

Your neighbours probably hate him.

I would definitely prefer screeching children to music btw.

BackforGood · 15/04/2020 19:05

What a selfish, arrogant dh you have.

Can he attempt to justify why he thinks it is okay to boom music out through a speaker in to everyone else's lives on a regular basis ?

PumpkinP · 15/04/2020 19:07

How would you know if people irl are bothered? I hate listening to my neighbours music, it really bugs me. I’ve never said anything to them though, I just avoid going out if they are out there which has been everyday during lock down so can’t even use my own bloody garden

InAPrettyCabinet · 15/04/2020 19:08

My neighbours are doing this right now and have been since lockdown began. I'm so stressed by it and I haven't spent as much time in the garden as I'd like.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 15/04/2020 19:10

You can’t just presume that people haven’t read the post properly to suit your argument.
