To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

I have a birthday coming up, I thought I might order a bit of jewellery from a small independent jeweller, that way I am supporting someone who is self employed and I won’t have to be concerned about the company complying with social distancing.

There is an area in the Scotland we go to on holiday that relies heavily on tourism so I am going to pick someone based there.

A hammock, we can fit an adult a child and our dog on it, I love it.

Cherrysoup · 14/04/2020 23:10

But @Rachel1350, on the other hand, we’re being told to support businesses and to still buy items to save them from going under.

I’ve bought a jigsaw and went nuts and doubled up on the horse painkillers so I can dose him up more she needed. The ground is hard.

sobersides · 14/04/2020 23:11

A hammer drill and wire cutters. Time to train that wisteria. Well it's a treat for me and DH left taking all the tools last year. Time to restock Sobersides style !

I am doing lots of wish list shopping for the garden: spring bulbs for next year, things that aren't available yet but will be in the autumn, when hopefully receiving parcels is a bit safer anyway. Wild tulips. Have had a delivery of bird seed: there is something very satisfying about feeding animals.

HollyHocks13 · 14/04/2020 23:16

I've just ordered a beautiful mug and bowl from Anthropologie. I love their home stuff - expensive but so indulgent 😊

Monsterjam · 14/04/2020 23:16

Ivebeentohellanditscalledikea · 14/04/2020 23:17

I never buy myself anything but treated myself to an folding exercise bike. It isn't here yet but I'm really excited to give it a go. We don't have a garden so will hopefully help me to keep moving.

BillyAndTheSillies · 14/04/2020 23:19

The dyson corrale. I'd bought it on QVC instalments thinking if I didn't like it I'd return it. But I bloody love it so it's staying!!

Some new dresses from Monki. All my summer dresses from last year are maternity and I can't fit in to my older summer stuff. These three dresses will see me through to winter now with different accessories.

Some earrings from an independent shop on Instagram which I fell in love with.

A PICK-ME-UP gift box that also helps social causes! I found it and thought it makes the perfect gift but ended up buying it for myself! No regrets! Grin

Really beautiful chocolates from this guy, honestly the best I’ve ever tasted, and I’ve tasted a lot!

Also plants and an eyebrow shaper/shaver pen.

123movies · 14/04/2020 23:35

I would like to eat a chocolate cake. I am in quarantine and nothing has been open for days. I've been two weeks without leaving home. I want to be free for buy a cake XD

EyeDrops · 14/04/2020 23:36

I've upgraded my cordless Dyson to a V10, and have splurged on a mid-range iPad so I can enjoy Disney+ more portably.

Smaller treats that have made me happy: a box of Betty's teabags and shortbread biscuits, and a proper shower cap rather than the disposable one I nabbed from my last hotel stay!

ChooChoosBiscuitTin · 14/04/2020 23:37

I regularly use elemis but given that I had spare cash I bought a load of stuff I wouldn't normally buy but for it being on offer, two things have stood out as being amazing treats 1- frangipani manoi hair mask and 2- rose scented pro collagen cleanser (leave it on for 30 mins or so while your having a bath). Have a shop round for it, I've never paid anything near full price for elemis!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 14/04/2020 23:38

I really want to know what perfumes you're all buying. I love perfumes. :)

I've just bought one of those egg-sitter cushions for my husband. I bought myself a rowing machine before the virus kicked off and I'm really glad I did, I'd never be able to find one to buy now.

Goldenhedgehogs · 14/04/2020 23:40

Don't judge, the scholastic Pokémon enclyclopedia for readers aged 7-10. Best £6 I have ever spent. I had asked for it for mother's Day but didn't get it. I am ticking off all the Pokémon I have got and finding out what evolved to what. I am hooked and it has given me so much pleasure...far more than the Masters I should be studying for.
