To ask if you've treated yourself to something as a pick me up right now, and what it is

So We're all stuck in as we know. I have a newborn and a 2.5yo, and DH wfh so most of my day is chaos with one millisecond of the day to myself. Oh and its my birthday this week (woooo).
I've not spent any money of late as DH does our food shop (I cover all bills and budgeted some spending money for mat leave). I am still in mat clothes thanks to not being able to get new ones I can fit in but I am comfy and reluctant to have to return items. I am generally not someone that spends money on myself, it mostly goes on the kids.

But like most, I am low and anxious, and want to 'treat' myself but no idea where to start in the current climate.

So has anyone treated themselves and if so what, why and did it work??

Treated myself to a white kindle. It came one afternoon, and I'd read a whole book by the following evening. I'd never wanted one before, as I like going to the library, but that's not possible now, and I didn't want to spend 5 or 6 quid on a book from Amazon I'll read once. I'm really pleased with it.

11 online diploma courses and a fitbit type watch which I bought to monitor blood oxygen levels when I was ill with suspected corona.

TheClitterati · 14/04/2020 22:23

I already have lots of lovely perfume and I wear it every day.

I bought myself a bike so the dc & I can go cycling

NC29 · 14/04/2020 22:26

I've indulged in some pure cashmere yarn and 2 hanks of hand dyed merino. Super soft, lovely orange/yellows. Already finished the shawl and wear it every day :)
I'm not saving any money apart from tfl cost as i never have lunch, don't go to coffee shops, rarely eat out... (by choice), so this extra spend is more like my quarterly "me money"

New blanket from ASDA. It's blue with the constellations on it.

Rachel1350 · 14/04/2020 22:27

But surely non-essential purchases are putting people's lives at risk in picking, packing and delivering them though? Why not treat yourself to using something you already have, maybe a lovely bubble bath or massage, candle lit dinner, making something from old craft materials or sewing, reading a book you've not yet got round to, baking......

Wine and a tonne of Trinny London make up. Keep clicking and unclicking the stacks. Very boring but also very satisfying. Smile

Gin and tonic hamper. Bycycle basket. Plants and shrubs.

frankie001 · 14/04/2020 22:30

Tassimo coffee machine. Normally walk
Dog and stop for a coffee. This is next best thing.

Hollyhobbi · 14/04/2020 22:30

A large box of Butlers chocolates and some hand towels from M n S as I have destroyed loads of towels in the last month by bleeding all over them & being carted off to the nearest A & E so they can stop the bleeding. How I don't have Corona Virus is a mystery as I have been about a foot away from suspected cases in the hospital.

I have a fluffy sock fetish. A new pair of fluffy socks never fails to cheer me up

TheFormidableMrsC · 14/04/2020 22:31

I bought a lovely outfit from Hush. It's something that I can't usually afford but no petrol and a huge mortgage reduction justified a little splurge. I've bought some summer clothes and shoes for 9 yo DS. I also bought some premium skincare but my DD works for the brand and the discount is huge so no more than buying ordinary skincare from Boots. It's brought a little joy to this awful situation.

PleaseStopSayingNewNormal · 14/04/2020 22:31

Not all at once, but sprinkled over the past month:

Comfortable around-the-house slip-on shoes.
Rose-scented shampoo and conditioner.
A magazine subscription for one of my hobbies, and also a couple of stream-able classes for that same hobby.
Bubbles for the dogs. (One of them loves popping them!)

I'm enjoying them all! Smile

Well, I've been doing a ton of dressmaking in the last few weeks, so now I have treated myself to some new fabric. Can't wait for it to get here so I can get on with the rest of my plans.

Also some plants for the garden, though I would have got those anyway, probably.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/04/2020 22:31

A Hell Bunny dress

Roominmyhouse · 14/04/2020 22:32

A shark hoover, some new kitchen knives and a sun lounger for the garden. All things I’ve wanted for ages that I could order now I’m home to take delivery.

Tupperwarelid · 14/04/2020 22:33

New trainers for my running and some new knickers.

Juanmorebeer · 14/04/2020 22:34

@BarbarAnna - DH has just killed my lidded frying pan; can I ask what make your new one is?

I have bought a BAM vest top, some Neom magnesium body butter and something from Ian Snow. I want to try to support smaller, ethical companies where I can.

Lorddenning1 · 14/04/2020 22:35

Iv treated myself to some lounge wear, new slippers, bubble bath and some lavender sleep spray from Avon Smile

user1494182820 · 14/04/2020 22:36

loveyouradvice · 14/04/2020 22:38

some body shop goodies... loving their strawberry body yogurt and mango hand cream... my dry hands from all that washing are HUNGRY and how smell gorgeous too!

MaMisled · 14/04/2020 22:38

My daily dog walks in nearby, secret, isolated areas, are heaving with , wild flowers, butterflies, hare, deer, birds and birds of prey. Suddenly, i thought, i want a fancy camera to capture these encounters! I've ordered a second hand bridge camera to see how i get on. Exciting!

Speminalium · 14/04/2020 22:38

I've put my foot down and demanded 30 minutes with a pot of tea very early in the morning and watch the sun rise ON MY OWN. Cheap and remarkably sanity preserving when faced with a full day's onslaught from 4 small children.

AteAllTheAfterEights · 14/04/2020 22:39

A packet of spacemasks (I’m addicted), new pyjamas, a bath oil and a new book
